Negotiations between Sony and Microsoft began last year and were handled directly by senior management, which means the PlayStation division largely wasn’t involved, a source told Bloomberg. Staff were reportedly caught off-guard by the news and had to be assured the company’s next-generation console plans aren’t affected.

A little click-baity but I guess this is normal corporate stuff where lower staff are kept ignorant.

High-level talks... They aren't all that surprising. It is a little surprising that low-level staff weren't told via inter-departmental memos, but no big deal. It's not like this move put jobs at risk, or at least not that I can directly see.
