PlayStation 4 sales reach 110 million

Sony posted its financial earnings from the previous quarter and the PlayStation 4 continues to move substantial numbers despite the global lockdowns and incoming successor. The company sold 1.5 million devices in just three months, reaching a total of 110.4 million consoles since its release. This includes all available configuration, including the Pro.

1.5 million sales in Q1 is a decline compared to last year, however, when Sony sold around 2.6 million consoles. Still seeing how the arrival of PlayStation 5 is just around the corner the number isn't as bad as it could have been. Also, Sony blames the overall weak console sales for the period along with the lower game sales.

For the fiscal year, Sony recorded a $3.8 billion revenue decrease compared to the previous 12-month period and the drop in consoles and game sales are one of the quoted reasons why.

Anyway, with the PlayStation 5 around the corner, it is highly unlikely that the current 4 will break any records despite the good run it had. PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS are still undisputed champions with roughly 157 and 155 million sales. Game Boy takes the third place with over 118 million units and PlayStation 4 takes the fourth position.

According to Sony, the PlayStation 5 launch is on schedule for this holiday season and remains unaffected by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

With a blackfriday push, it'll end up with 120 by the end of the year. Lifetime, possibly 140 million. Just shy of the PS2's 155, but what a gen it has been for Sony, also generating $20 billion in annual revenues for its Playstation division. What a comeback!

Normally I would say sales HaH but I have been informed several times on SW that they are king,so with that said if you have a 2080ti gaming pc and are a SW member then your rig loses to the PS4 because it hasn’t sold as many graphics cards

The sad part is that in the future, when you'll point out the importance of good specs inside future consoles, there will be that one guy quoting you with bullshit saying that the PS4 sold over 140mil with a smartphone cpu, implying that strong specs are not important. Yea, that guy, there are many of them.

They should permanently drop the price to $199 or $249 once the PS5 is released.

Dang, I was hoping Xb1 would pick up on sold numbers. but it looks like that isn’t the case, since everyone is just buying the PS4 :(

Seems like it may settle near the 125m mark when it’s all said and done, knowing it’s still got two major games this year and the tail-end sales may last for several years.

Hopefully they reinvest that capital into making PSN and it’s services less of a PoS.

Lol, no. The PS3 sold almost 20 million units after the PS4 launched, the PS2 30+ when the PS3 launched. Basically add 20 million after a consoles launch - just to be safe. Based on current numbers the PS4 will hit 120 by the time the PS5 comes out due to black friday and obviously a price drop. So, it'll be somewhere in the 140 million mark. But I don't expect it to hit 155 like the PS2.

Still incredible numbers, I didn't expect a console to reach almost 150 million this gen.

I think its funny Nintendo combined Gameboy Color/Gameboy sales number. many of Gameboy Color titles cannot be played on the original Gameboy. shouldn't make that a generational leap?

Doesn't matter if it could play Gameboy games, that's just backwards compatability.
