PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS - a new PC hit that outsells AAA multiplats

Damn, the game is still early access but it already outsold multiple AAA titles. The game already has 145k concurrent players. It's 3rd most played game on Steam only behind Dota and Counter Strike. It has been number 1 on Steam's sales charts for two months O_O Trailers don't make this game justice. The game is an absurd mix of Survival, Arma and third person shooter. I watched some youtube plays and understood why this game is popular. The videos are extremely interesting to watch.

Well deserved too.

Not having a go, but it looks exactly like I expect an early access title to look.

Remember back when when Gametrailers was around how hard they and others attempted to blanked pc gaming outside of existing, if it wasn't Blizzard.

Now they are dead and buried while games with practically no marketed are making a killing.

I know it's a lame excuse, but the only reason I haven't picked it up is because 3rd person. :/

Proof that single player games are dead. This is already bigger than Horizon and Zelda and within a year it will sell more than both combined.

I never liked these games but whatever floats your boat. Standards don't mean a thing when people are having fun.

yup. why bother making a single player game that someone will play once when you can make a multiplayer game that lasts hundreds of hours and constantly rakes in money

Makes sense. People have to play something when they don't have access to great games like Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, and Horizon Zero Dawn.

1 10 hour B grade movie story game... with bad MP.

1 20 hour "pretty ubisoft game" with no replay value worth its salt.

Man if this was a xbox title it be attacked by the media for looking like shit. On PC free pass. Anyway gameplay looks ok.

That is the major problem with the modern console industry... nothing to compare but graphics, forgetting that the games are more important.

nah this is a valid excuse, they are working on a first-person only mode apparently and I think this will be a much better experience.

I have had a lot of fun with the third person mode but being able to look around cover without exposing yourself really reduces the tension.

The game looks like it came out in 2004, PC gamers have the lowest standards.

Gameplay and graphics look like an early life mod at best.

How is this different than H1Z1? Both look horrible.

That's the sad thing about this and the AAA industry. In its unfinished state it's not a great game. There's not much to it. There's not much content. It doesn't run or work great. Its progression system is not really in place yet but the placeholder doesn't really fill you with hope. But it's the best version that we have of this Hunger Games/Battle Royale concept that is clearly a success. People like the idea so much that they're willing to pay quite a bit for what's, let's be honest, not likely to become a very polished and complete end product. It's a missed opportunity by AAA publishers.

Still since it's the best we'll get for a while I played it too, and enjoyed it a lot. It was a very unique experience.

Actually, you can switch between 1st and 3rd person, but you'll be at a severe disadvantage if you only stay in 1st person. Now, they should have lobbies where it's forced to 1st person or 3rd person.

EDIT: Apparently, there's an option to switch it in the controls.

Unfinished game and its running on UE4 so its can't be that bad. Maybe you are used to graphics on consoles that go for eye candy rather than realistic approach?

Its great fun and I don't take it too seriously because of early access and 3rd person mode.

Its getting regular patches / updates so a lot better off than the other BR games. Its an EA game that is actually progressing.

they already have a running version of it in the Xbox Preview program. I think this and Conan Exiles are coming to Xbox Preview in Q3.

I've tried, but not my type of game. Maybe over time as it's improved.

3rd person is far superior to 1st person shooting... unless you are a PC gamer only... which this game only happens to be on at the moment, so I guess that would make sense.. lol

Anyways though, I play on console and PC, and much prefer 3rd person. I feel that once you master each that 3rd person is much more tactical and fun. To each their own though.

Hmm. Not sure I get what you mean. I've been primarily a console gamer for roughly 30 years. Now I'm primarily on PC. I don't think one is superior to the other, nor do I think it matters what platform you're on lol.

And I do enjoy 3rd person games plenty.

Just with this game in particular, from all the videos I've watched, it seems like something better suited for 1st person.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages. Really depends on the game in question for me. I don't think there's really a mastery of either, it's just a camera perspective lol.

People love to brag about pc graphics but all the top twitch games look like PS3 era games. Some even less so. Proof that graphics don't matter as much as they say it does.

That has been the case on PC for years.....

MMOs, MOBAS ... shooters like CS and Overwatch eclipsing all others....

You will find most graphics whores are PS4 gamers desperate to one up others... yet most of their 1st party games are just flat out empty and short.

I picked it up when it was 25% off recently at GMG, but I have not gotten around to playing it as my gaming time has been limited lately. It is definitely a game that I will enjoy. I was going to give it a go this past weekend, but then I got distracted by the Quake Champions Beta, Assetto Corsa, and NHL 17. I don't have time to play all the games I want. :(

You can bet your ass there will be "AAA" production copy pasta versions of this game in a few years - trying to cash in all the hype.

Long story short... one life games are better in third person in my opinion.. lol.

If you get it when it drops on consoles then hit me up. My clan is a long time running 3rd person shooter, one life, tactical, SOCOM clan. Perhaps that's why I am bias towards third person in one life games. To me, it just makes each life seem more important, and easier for me to place a larger amount of blame on myself for making silly mistakes.
