Pikmin Director Developing New IP for Nintendo

Masamichi Abe, the director on Pikmin and Pikmin 2, is developing a new intellectual property for Nintendo, according to Namco Bandai's Katsuhiro Harada.

Abe is presently working at the company's headquarters in Kyoto, Harada revealed on Twitter in response to a fan inquiry as to whether the Pikmin and Tekken designer had retired from the business. However, Harada didn't go so far as to blow the lid off what the new project might entail.

Prior to Abe's current undertaking, he left Japan for Nintendo Software Technology in Redmond, Washington, where he helmed Metroid Prime: Hunters and worked on other Nintendo DS titles, such as Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again.

Why... would Pikmin ever go multiplatform?

Monolith Soft showed us their new IP, as did Platinum. Now it's up to Miyamoto and Abe, and I assume they will unveil theirs by E3 next year.

Nintendo usually doesn't make new IPs tho. Nintendo doesn't know how to make new IPs just like they don't know how to make a console that is up to date.

Hurrah! Pikmin be a great series and a new IP of that quality will be welcome.

Is X a new IP or is it part of the Xenoblade IP?

Xeno is a meta series. Each game is a new story, but has similar themes.

It's a new IP, but it should have the same philosophical themes as the other Xeno- games.

So Nintendo has two new IPs being made. One by Miyamoto and one by Mr. Abe. I am excite.
