Phil Spencer Played Banjo-Kazooie Recently And Xbox Fans Think It's A Tease

Some are taking a 40-minute play session as a hint toward a new game.

In this season of summer game reveals, every little thing a top executive does will fuel rumors and speculation for what's due to be announced. Xbox head Phil Spencer--no stranger to veiled teases himself--is stirring the pot thanks to his recent gaming history.

Eagle-eyed fans using Xbox activity tracking sites noticed Spencer loaded up the Xbox port of Banjo-Kazooie on June 1, playing for 37 minutes and unlocking one achievement: Get Jiggy, earned by collecting two puzzle pieces. He has not played the game since then, instead playing Elden Ring and Ninja Gaiden Sigma among other games, but the rumor mill has swirled anyhow.

Speculation has ranged from a brand-new Banjo adventure--the long-awaited Banjo-Threeie mentioned at the end of Banjo-Tooie back in 2000--to a remake of the first game which one Twitter user called Banjo-Redooie, and that name is just *chef's kiss.*

Is this a calculated, purposeful effort to tease a new Banjo-Kazooie, or did a high-profile gaming exec simply decide to go retro for a half-hour before diving back into Elden Ring? We'll find out when the Xbox and Bethesda Summer Games Showcase kicks off June 12 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET.

Yeah kinda but I'd be way more interested in a new B&K Threeie made for this gen than just yet another remake of an older B&K game. :P

What a coincidence, that is the same year TLOU2's multiplayer is coming out.

If you play a story focused title for its multiplayer, you have your priorities messed up.

First of all, i am the biggest cow on SW, and i still have the trophy from last year. Secondly, you can ask everyone who played TLOU if they did any multiplayer and i bet you at least 70% would say that they didn't bother even trying it. Nobody plays it for pvp🤦‍♂️You don't have any ammunition to criticize Sony, so you're permanently sticking to this TLOU2 multiplayer talk, sounding like you care more about it than those that even played it in the original game.

Since MS’s acquisition of Rare, the Banjo series has never done well. It was never given the AAA treatment unlike Ratchet & Clank at Sony, and always treated as low/mid-budget side projects. Perhaps that's why key members of the development team left Rare to work on its spiritual successor, the Yooka-Laylee series.

MS execs had probably forgotten about that series until Nintendo brought them on board for Smash Bros. and it got a lot of attention.

Sounds like you too are mad that they haven't released the second half of TLOU2 after almost 3 years.

I would give a remake to playtonic it's ridiculous waiting for rare to get their act together.

I wouldn't take that as a hint for a new game, but it would be cool.

Like with other publishers, MS is sitting on a bunch of cool shit they can do shit with, but don't. Why do we not have Threeie yet? Where's Rare? Kameo/Conker/Viva Piñata? Where's Fable? MechAssault? Perfect Dark? Killer Instinct? Monster Truck/Midtown/Motocross Madness? Rallisport? They own Hexen now as well, do something with that. Stop being boring.

My wife and kids would be excited for a new Banjo game!

No wife anymore and the kids are as old or older than most here so those days are gone for me. lol :P

@Zero_epyon: yes, banjo kazooie is one of the greatest 3d platformers of all time alongside super mario 64. I highly recommend checking it out

I would've hope its the actual Banjo-Threeie that was tease after completing Tooie all those years ago. It was the one that we wanted, not that Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts which was such a disappointing game. If Phil's gonna do a new game, it should be none other than Banjo-Threeie.

Granted, love the games on N64 and glad to play'em again through Rare Replay.

Would loooove to see a new Banjo game (better not be the garbage Nuts n Bolts kind of a game, tho), but there's no talent at MS that could make a platformer of this quality.
