I guess the only way to win a war, is to leave it.
Lems have been killed for this gen.
Guess it's just sheep and cows left.
One of these interviewers should man up and ask him if he's not competing with Sony and Nintendo then why not put games on their platforms too.

actually, Nintendo left direct competition with Microsoft and Sony when they made the Wii.. they were very clear about it..
So in the end, Sony is the only major player left in the traditional sense of the "console wars".. the war is over and Sony won with the PS4..
As far as putting Game Pass on other consoles, why?.. There is still an Xbox ecosystem driven by their own 1st party studios along with 2nd/3rd party deals.. just because Netflix is available on all devices doesn't mean they're putting their original content on Hulu and Amazon..
Beyond that, why would Sony and Nintendo even want Game Pass on their systems?.. any Game Pass subscriber would be one less person buying software from the PlayStation Store.. Both Nintendo and Sony have their own storefronts so why would they allow a competing storefront onto their platform?. this isn't rocket science..
But yeah, I saw that interview as well and it's good to hear Phil confirm what I've been saying for quite some time now.. Xbox is no longer participating in the console war.. as a matter of fact, they left back in 2016 when they created Xbox Play Anywhere for PC.. for them it's all about a combined ecosystem across consoles, PC, and cloud..
It's ok Phil spencer saying they more than doubled studio acquisitions but nothing is coming substantial for 2-3 years. This is the time they need big 3rd party exclusivity but it's not in his thinking. Make no mistake Sony are going big and will leave ms behind if they don't do something. Gamepass will only get them so far.
@Antwan3K: I think you missed th point.
Phil says 1 thing and does the opposite.
Of corse gamepass isnt coming to switch or ps4 cause he thinks if he acts like he doesnt care, sony will fumble again and they can start celebrating selling 10 million bones 1st and being ahead of the ps5 and everything else Sony does that they can't.
Phil Spencer and Satya Nadella are the two worst leaders I've ever seen bring back Bill Gates and Don Mattrick, kick Phil and Satya to the curb.
Compete with sony on the same level.
Cow insecurities growing by the day... lmao!!
Can't wait for the Digital Foundry comparisons come the end of the year.
@Ant_17: no, you're the one missing the point..
They still have a couple consoles they want to sell in the Series S and X.. Keeping Game Pass off of "competing" consoles is good for those devices.. But console sales aren't the end-all-be-all for Xbox like it is for Playstation..
They have a fairly good presence on PC that's only going to get better and they have virtually no competition in the cloud streaming space.. So yeah, if the Xbox Series S/X sells great, cool.. If people decide to build/buy PCs for Game Pass titles and Xbox 1st party, cool.. If streaming takes off on mobile, Smart TVs, and more, cool.. That's the difference; a full ecosystem across multiple devices.. That's Microsoft's strength and they are finally playing to that strength..
@Antwan3K: glad to see you support all this loser talk from your buddy Phil Spencer. Him, his brand are losers in the space. I’ll change my mind once they have some decent games
@phlop_spencer: apparently you're Phil's biggest fan.. You're clearly obsessed with the man..
We get it.. if you were in charge, you would keep banging your head against a wall trying to win a console war that's simply unwinnable.. Nintendo recognized when it was time to leave the console war BS and they are benefiting greatly from that choice.. Now that Microsoft is doing the same thing, losers like you just can't let go..
You're like an obsessed ex-girlfriend that just can't get the hint..
@NathanDrakeSwag: exactly. Put gamepass on switch and ps4 and be done with it. Accept the L and make bank. Look at Sega. Doing better than when they made consoles.
Sure, ask Sony and Nintendo to waive licensing fee for putting GP on PS and Switch and I'm pretty sure MS would have no problem doing that.
This is precisely why xCloud isn't on iOS and you can't buy Netflix from iOS app.

Bro the 360 COMPETED really well with the ps3. MICROSOFT ABANDONED US THIS GEN.
@ProtossRushX: "bro" the 360 had every advantage in the book: early launch, lower price, better performance on multiplats, great exclusives, and more.. This was also coupled with the PS3 being an absolute joke for years.. And guess what?..
Sony still won the "console war" in terms of worldwide sales.. That should be your clue, "bro".. There no winning a traditional console war against Sony, particularly after the performance of the PS4..
Damn dude, I wouldn't put you in charge of a lemonade stand if you can't understand this simple logic..
@ProtossRushX: Of course they are that’s why Microsoft is making more money than ever and more than Sony could ever dream of making!

This is about gaming divisions, not MS the whole company. Quite sure MS doesn't come close.

Bro they fucking abandoned us. They made xb1 cost 500 dollars an was weaker than the ps4. They fucking didn't make any good JRPG's like blue dragon and oddsey. They let Bungie leave and let sony sign a deal with them for timed content.
THIS IS FUCKING ridiculous. There is no reason the xb1 should have been more expensive and weaker there is no reason we didn't get jrpg's they canceled scalebound OUR JRPG! They didn't even give us a fable this gen. THERE NO EXCUSES THEY SHUT DOWN LIONHEAD! This isn't the same xbox team.

Nadella comes from a services background, he has turned something good to complete shit. Bit like how Mr Cook has turned Apple to shit.
@ProtossRushX: dude everything you mentioned was under Don Matrick's watch.. The guy that you literally said in this thread that you want Xbox to go back to..
Under Phil's watch (the guy you hate) the Xbox One decoupled from Kinect to a cost less than the PS4, they released a sleek Xbox One S that had a 4K Blu-ray drive the PS4 didn't have, they released a Xbox One X that was more powerful than the PS4 Pro, they have the most comprehensive b/c program of any device, they bought/built 15 first party studios for the first time ever, they have a subscription service that mud-stomps PS Now into the ground, they ballooned Xbox Live active users from 50~ million to over 90 million, they are heading into next-gen with both the most powerful console in the X and cheapest with the S, and more..
^ how the **** did they "abandone us"?!?!?!..
You clearly don't care about Xbox and your fake concern is clearly fake..
I keep hearing this bullshit from Phil, but I think he's just covering his ass for potential poor sales. If they weren't participating in a console war, then why are they introducing two new consoles into the market and not wanting to reveal said price of those consoles until his rivals do? Oh, and they also have a subscription service to sell with a bunch of new studios they bought to put to work for it. I mean, you can't do that without getting as much hardware out there as possible.
I think post COVID, all the exuberances they planned for trying to take down Playstation this gen may not be working out for the long term. An unprofitable Game Pass, new consoles they were willing to lose money on and so on. All that confidence is being replaced with "woe is me" talk.
@BenjaminBanklin: this isn't complicated.. They're introducing two new consoles into the console market because they want to stay relevant in the console market..
Duh..
Game Pass is literally spread across consoles, PC, and cloud.. You don't need to rely on console sales when consoles are only a slice of the total market you're trying to penetrate..
Xbox wasn't going to continue to grow as a brand and business by chasing Sony in a console race. They could spend another decade trying and failing.
Xbox will be more successful selling GamePass, games on PC, Xcloud etc. because it focuses on their strengths.

Game Pass and Xbox consoles have been around for years, and they're still last place without reporting any profit. You'd be a fool if you think they wouldn't want to trade places with Sony's position in the market. Right now, they're being a jack-of-all-trades in gaming, and no one avenue seems to be gaining them any ground.
@NathanDrakeSwag: exactly. Put gamepass on switch and ps4 and be done with it. Accept the L and make bank. Look at Sega. Doing better than when they made consoles.

Xbox has been trying for a while to come to Nintendo and Playstation. They are still coming to switch (?) (https://www.lifewire.com/how-xbox-live-on-nintendo-switch-works-4692845) but Sony flat out said "No". Then PSNow came out.
@BenjaminBanklin: do you think Game Pass and Xbox 1st party is more successful spread across consoles, PC, and cloud or would it be more successful being only tied to consoles?..
Because the factor you're glossing over is that Xbox consoles are simply not going to beat Playstation consoles on a worldwide stage.. Period..
So do you just keep limiting yourself to only consoles or do you expand to a level that no other competitors can expand to?.. If your answer is "stick to consoles", you're just a fanboy filled with fake concern who simply wants to continue to see Xbox lose to Playstation in the console wars rather than seeing Microsoft and Xbox actually play to their strengths..
In my mind Xbox is just sort of gone, an ancient relic of the past. Mr Spencer went and killed it in the face.
In its place I have all first party titles day one and a ton of other pretty good games courtesy of Ultimate Game Pass on PC. I am totally fine with that, very happy indeed.
Well done Phil you incompetent Big Mac guzzling buffoon, you may have your detractors but I'm a fan!

Xbox has already lost, and they've been losing. You think putting all the games on the cloud and talking about not selling consoles is going to somehow up their chances of making Xbox a sustainable venture? If no one fucks with Xbox games on a console, why should their chances change dramatically anywhere else?
Hell, they squandered any chance of Game Pass being successful when they gave the shit away for pennies. None of what Phil Spencer is saying inspires ANY sort of confidence in the brand as it is.
What do I care if they say that they are in competition with them or not? All that I really care about is that they provide with a platform that I find compelling to use and games that I enjoy playing.
@blueinheaven: lol you don't think Mr Spencer is glad to have you as a Game Pass subscriber on PC?..
Well he's got about £32 out of me with various GP deals I took advantage of which takes me well into next year if he sees that as a fantastic return I am very happy for him lol.
@BenjaminBanklin: Xbox lost the console war a long time ago.. The fact that the 360 couldn't beat PS3 in the console war tells you all you need to know when Microsoft was at their best and Sony was at their worst..
So again, I ask you: do you just stick to consoles or do you expand?.. Microsoft is the only company that can natively bring their 1st party games to both consoles and PC via Xbox Live while also expanding to streaming for one subscription service in Game Pass.. But you want them to ignore that advantage in favor of continuing to lose a traditional console war?..
Great plan..
Phil needs to quit talking so much.......he's ruining the xbox series X momentum. It gained a lot of hype...but because of his poor choice of words, people are losing interest....let the games do the talking. AGAIN......The Series X started out great...shame the recent showing and phils loud mouth destroyed that hype.
Does anyone actually think it’s a good thing if Sony are the only traditional console left??
Good God no. Sony fans (still not sure how anyone can be a 'fan' of a company but whatever) who are hoping Xbox massively fails and disappears are basically turkeys voting for Christmas.

I don't give shit what they do. They're not bringing out worthwhile games anymore. I still don't see the point if they're not going to do a full expansion to other platforms and just go all-out third party. Trying to boost subs on their low selling consoles and PC and phones by nickel and diming it isn't going to give us anymore quality content anyway.
@blueinheaven: and I'm sure he's glad to have you in the Xbox ecosystem when you probably weren't going to be engaging with Xbox otherwise..
I'm not in the Xbox ecosystem. I'm on PC. My PC is not an Xbox One or a Series X. I'm more than happy to give MS money for Gamepass it's a fantastic service and I'm happy to pay for Windows but your Xbox 'ecosystem' is all yours that shit is nothing to do with me. Just saying.
@blueinheaven: Doesn’t matter what you are saying you are paying money directly into the Xbox ecosystem that gamepass is part of!
