Amazing numbers for an amazing game, and hopefully it keeps selling :)
For reference, what did P4 ( and all it's iterations) do?
In any case, almost 2 million is pretty awesome!
1.6 million worldwide for Persona 4+Persona 4 Golden, over a period of six years.
"Sega producer and director Toshihiro Nagoshi stated that Persona 5 had surpassed 1.8 million copies shipped worldwide."
For perspective, 1-2 Switch is at 1.22 and Arms is at 1.18. Two new IP's on hardware with less than 4% of the PS4 and PS3 install base, and they did it in less than half the time.
@charizard1605: Dat Morgana factor!

Persona 5 had surpassed 1.8 million copies shipped worldwide."I mean, yes, major AAA games backed by Nintendo with a marketing budget that probably eclipses the development plus marketing budget of Persona 5 twice over, will in fact do better than Persona 5, which is from a series that was niche within a niche genre to begin with.
Good sales for a good game. I'm still playing it for the sheer amusement of creating a broken as hell of a team as I can.
You say that, however neither of those games have a talking cat. GG.
Splatoon 2 has cats that point and stuff, and it did 650K in Japan in a couple of days. That must be why it will outsell Persona 5 in a week worldwide.
(disclaimer: I'm only taking jabs because this is system wars. Positive threads give me an itch that can only be scratched with shit talk)
Glad to see Persona 5 doing so well. I really wish I could play it for the first time again because I'm not really a NG+ kinda guy lol

Nice the series is trending upwards. I think this is the most Atlus games have sold. They should release this on pc and pick up a few more. I'll say it again. It is important to an install base. Some people bought this instead of COD. Then maybe a few of those people will curiously buy the next COD.

Uh, this was from the Atlus financials report when Sega acquired them. Let me try and dig it out for you lol
1.8 million is not as good as the hype the persona fanboys were spreading here.....
their hype was writing checks that atlus couldn't cash....
:P
I knew one of you would show up. Thanks for helping us celebrate Persona 5's success. Even trolls are welcome lol

Cool. Let me know if you find it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Persona 4 did sell that much though. The series as a whole sold 6.9 million before Persona 5's international release. And P4 was the best-seller in the series prior to that.

Yeah, I recall the breakdown being 900,000 for Golden, and the rest for vanilla. I'll definitely shoot you a PM if I find it haha.

I have to agree that while not the only factor, it does come into play with the switch. Its that or ive been wrong about people's desire to pose and fake ping pong this whole time

No, the argument doesn't hold- people buying the Switch are cognizant of the lineup it has announced, and are specifically buying it for those games (i.e. if they didn't like what the Switch had, they wouldn't be buying it in the first place). In other words these games that are selling are what people are buying the Switch for, so if they had released on any other system, they would still have sold as well.

ya, 1 2 switch was a real system seller :/

Not if you turn your brain off tho.
But yeah, seriously. Such a dumb argument. The amount of fantasy scenarios you'd have to buy into, while also ignoring real world counter-examples, is a bit staggering. It's a childlike reasoning.
Yet somehow it remains a mainstay argument on SW.

I mean, maybe not to you or I, but clearly, it's got a 70% attach ratio lol. People liked what they saw and they bought it.

Yeah, it's just like... I don't even understand. Like, when I bought the Switch, I didn't start buying every stupid thing on the eShop after I was done with Zelda, I proceeded to ignore it and play games on my PS4 until the Switch got something I was interested in again. People don't spend more money to feel less bad about money they have already spent lol.

Not saying people didnt like what they saw should go without saying because only an idiot buys something they arent interested in federation force . All im saying is it gets a bump from being a launch title when people are looking for something to play on their switch. Its more like "hey im buying this for mario and zelda, but 1 2 switch doesnt look too bad"

I mean, that argument holds, but it holds only at launch because at launch is the only time there is a stock, and not a flow, of games. Post launch, there is always a flow of games (unless you are Wii U), which means you have additional games vying for attention nullifying the phenomenon you've mentioned.
My point is that functionally, any 'launch boost' is so negligible in the larger scheme of things as to be irrelevant. And yet listening to people like Vatsusus, you'd think it was responsible for like 80% of all sales lol
I'd be surprised if it *didn't* happen to be honest. I mean, on what else would they put their portable version on? The Vita? lolnope.
It'll happen, the question is when it happens.
When it happens, I will buy it because I have nothing else to buy on my Switch anyway
@charizard1605: This Christmas so I can buy it :3 Do it Atlus! DOOOOO IT!
I wouldn't be all that surprised if they announced it at the Persona concert this... September?
That said, if they did, I have to imagine Japan gets it before us >.>
@charizard1605: You mean, Japan beta tests this before us :v
Sure, if that makes you feel better ;__;
@Desmonic: Persona 5 would work just fine on the Vita. It's not that graphically demanding and Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster, Persona 3 Portable, and Persona 4 Golden being on it prove that it can handle a huge game with lots of content. If you wanna talk graphical capabilities you can refer to Uncharted: Golden Abyss which looks damn good for a handheld game. I'm not knocking a Switch version but I feel like Persona 5 would be right at home on the PS Vita
