Persona 5 vs Final Fantasy 15

Final Fantasy 15, Xbox One turned down the teenage drama simulator that is Persona 5. I bet Phil Spencer and the Japanese made tons of jokes about Persona 5 while he was in Japan. Supposedly isn't it an Otaku game?

I've owned XV for a few months, still haven't gotten around to playing it, but I can tell I would no doubt enjoy it more than these Persona games.

I'm only in June of Persona 5, two Palaces down. Finished Final Fantasy XV quite a while ago.

Wish I could say it's a difficult decision between the two, but the answer to the topic is easily Persona 5 for me.

Persona 5. FF has always sucked and people realize this only now.

How has FF sucked, have you played Final Fantasy 4,5,6,8, or 9? Particularly 9?

P5 is so addictive as hell, while FFXV does not interest me as I heard story is shite.

Yes for about 1h each and each time they bore me to death. Always been told how great these games are and to play them but they always suck so much I can't be bothered to keep going.

Subjective scores are subjective. The fact is that Final Fantasy 15 was good enough to merit being on two platforms. What's persona 5's excuse for not being on Xbox One? It certainly is not a first or second party title.

Well do you at-least like their music? I am sorry that you could not get into those games. What about Chrono Cross? Have you tried 7 or 10? Maybe FF3?

10 is a pretty terrible game (sans music and setting). 7 is good, 6 is great, 4 is great, 5 is great, 9 is great. 12 and 15 are good.

@ThumpyBowser: I played 6, 7, 9, 10 and I didn't finish any. 6 mostly due to bland combat, 9 cliche story, stupid Trance mechanic. While I didnt finish 7 but that's because of a seroius game breaking bug during Cid failed launch flashback but I like story and combat.

@ThumpyBowser: Never played Chrono Cross but love Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3 and other Square games. Never managed to get into FF.

In addition I generally dislike the character designs, the countless belts in clothing, overly dramatic plots and overabundance of uninteresting characters.

I actually love JRPG's but never liked the flagship JRPG series.

10 was really easy lol, idk if I would say it was terrible though. Glad you enjoyed the games. Personally I found 7 harder to get into later on. 9 had the same problem but I loved it so much that the later discs while not as good were still epic.

Does Persona 3 pick up? I have it for PSP (gave my vita away to my cousin but I can still play on my PSP). I struggle with the concepts. How would you rank the Persona games? I personally find it hard to get into Persona coming from FF.

Part of the charm of 9 was how it was a cliche run of the mill RPG albeit with interesting dialogue/side characters IE:the knight imo.

Glad you liked 7 though, have you ever thought of giving 8 a whirl? It is considered the blacksheep of the series despite selling a ton. It was pretty divisive.

Glad you appreciate some games I never heard of. From what I understand if you love Chrono Trigger you will like Chrono Cross? I never played Chrono Trigger so I can't comment on that.

Chrono Cross actually got a 10/10 on gamespot but you might need to use a guide if you are a noob like me. The game like Majoras Mask does not really hold your hand.

Well, let's see, lemme give a short overview on my thoughts on each of these games so you know where I am coming from:

Final Fantasy 4 is actually one of my favorite games of all time, and the one I have the most nostalgia for from the series. I love the music, cast, story (though it becomes a bit tired later), and just generally it was a very well made game that was compelling.

Final Fantasy5 is great for the opposite reasons- the story is pretty meh, but the gameplay is amazing, and I still remain addicted to messing around with the job system to this day.

Final Fantasy 6 is basically a masterpiece of atmosphere, characterization, and storytelling. I actually find the game part of it pretty weak, but the story, characters, storytelling, and music are top notch

Final Fantasy 7 is really a step down from the SNES games in every way (doesn't help that I didn't play it until years later), but it's still a very well made game, and I totally understand why it had the impact that it did on so many people

Final Fantasy 8 is batshit crazy with the most nonsensical level system of all time, and absolutely nothing going in its favor whatsoever

Final Fantasy 9 is a return to form by going back to the classic fantasy settings, with nostalgic settings and gameplay. I love it as the ultimate realization of the FF4 formula, I would say

Final Fantasy 10 has great music, an amazing lore, and I actually love the world and ending- but it's a proto-FF13, it's linear, funneled, the level system is asinine and pointless (linear leveling and Sphere Grid both amount to the same thing, making Sphere Grid a massive waste of time), and the voice acting is awful.

Final Fantasy 12 plays really well, I love the scope and openness, love the gameplay, the License Board is pretty badly realized, the story is mediocre and falls of a cliff, and the characterization is all over the place

Final Fantasy13 is a fucking disaster.

Final Fantasy 15 has fun combat, a great world, good music, and really great character interaction. It suffers from absolutely nonsensical storytelling, pacing that falls of a cliff in the second half of the game, and absolutely nothing to do in the world.

ChronoTrigger is JRPG perfection, Chrono Cross is flawed as **** but I love it, it has so much charm and heart, I love it.

With those out of the way- do you have a PS3? If you do, you (and should) play Persona 4 on there (available via PS2 Classics). Hell, even if you want to play Persona 3, the PSP version is the absolute worst one. There is one on PS3 via PS2 Classics, which is the one you should play. My advice is to not start with 3- play 4, or better still 5, and work back to 3 from there.

@ThumpyBowser: Funny that you mention Majora's Mask which is my favorite game ever. I definitely need to try Chrono Cross but them going 3D with the graphics kinda turned me off. Those polygons are awful but if it's as good as Chrono Trigger I can't miss it.

Final Fantasy 15 is rubbish. Remember when you clowns tried to act like the combat was good in that game? With those shallow ass mechanics, that piss poor game feel, they dull as **** enemy designs. Shit makes The Witcher 3 look like Ninja Gaiden.

I only need to have played FFXV to authoritatively answer Persona 5.

@ThumpyBowser: I did think of getting 8, although it seems divisive but after doing some research I think it's interesting. I just played 7 last year but after putting in 40 hrs, in my opinion it deserves all the praise and 92% meta rating.

4 is okay. 5 is mechanically okay. 6 is overrated trash. 8 is laughably bad. And 9 is boring as hell.

I haven't played either yet, but I can tell Persona beats FF 15 in almost every regard (especially combat).

I still feel so weird for loving FF 13. Like everyone hates it, and it's one of my favorite FF's.

@charizard1605: It's so good though! I love the melodrama. I love most of the characters, the combat is some of the best in the series. The over linearity didn't bother me, and the leveling system was serviceable.

Ehh... I wouldn't say it was FUN. It held your attention better than nearly every other FF game, sure. But most everything else about the game was awful, save production values.

In a way though it has more merit as a game than say, FF6 or FF7.

I don't understand the point of comparing a good game to a bad one.

The real question is what the **** is up with Japan's obsession with pants that stop just below the knee or rolled up to show your ankles?

one is a pile of feces and the other is a bloody masterpiece

one is an actual RPG,the other a casualized crap

one is complete and doesn't require DLC patches or additional "fixes",the other is rushed out incomplete and buggy mess

one should serve as an example on creating a proper JRPG,the other a cautionary tale

SE's reputation is in shambles after this laughable release.
