Persona 5 The Royal New trailer + Japanese Release Date

Release date: 31/10/2019 for japan; 2020 for the rest of the world (my guess is around march).

Looks like an enhanced version of Persona 5 and also seems to be a PS4 exclusive.

It looks like a solid expansion, more than I was expecting. I've been meaning to play Persona 5 again at some point in the future, and maybe this will be a good time to start it up again.

A lot of additions, and looking at p5r.jp, a lot of new characters. I'm pumped!

It's really fun to see Kichijoji on the map (I proposed to my partner there a few months ago), and...was some of that set in Osaka? It sure looks like it.

Definitely one of the best RPGs ever made.

Is it an expansion or a whole new game?

It is both, it adds more of everything, but it is so big that it wouldn't work as dlc so it will be sold as a new game.

I already platinum Persona 5 and I'm too lazy to go through the game again at this point, so I'll just put this on my wishlist whenever I have time when I'm not doing any major gaming.

Persona 5 was long enough for me to finish. Not sure whether I want to spend 80+ hours again. I have no experience with the other sequels like Persona 3FES and Persona 4 Golden, so I have no clue how much content Atlus will add and whether it's worth buying P5R .

It's neither a remake or remaster, but it has more in common with a remake.

Is this an enhanced version akin to P4G, or just a P5 expansion? If it's the former, then i'll definitely pick it up.

@lundy86_4: I dunno how reliable the information I got from the webz, but it's like FES + Golden. You will have the rest of the 3 months to be played after the major game events from vanilla, as well as a lot of QOL improvements on the game.

I doubt this will be sold as a DLC.

@jasonofa36: If that's the case, i'll definitely pick it up. Although, I don't wanna get burned if PC version is announced at some point, as unlikely as that may seem.

I still have my PS5, but Atlus' improved releases are always stellar.

@lundy86_4: P5R, yeah, it's unlikely to get a PC release. There'll be more announcements later tonight(I'm in Asia) for P5S. It's a possible switch version and/or PC version. No-one knows tho.

@jasonofa36: I'm not too bothered about the Switch, as I don't go mobile enough... So i'll grab the PS4 version if it's the only option. I have no qualms about double-dipping at full-price if it's on par with FES and Golden.

2020 for the west huh? I wonder if it'll have a 4K dyanmic/120hz mode or 8KCB/30 FPS for the PS5.

I'm not sure of a single game to have 120hz on consoles. Something tells me it's still 60 at max, and next-gen may try to do that at 1080/1440 (like newer TVs.)

Edit: My bad, you said 4K with 120... So definitely not. Still limited at 4K output with 60.

Most likely. Doesn't the Xbox One X support 120hz mode for 1080p at least? I'm guessing that works at least on a UI level. Not sure.

I can somewhat imagine a game with the graphics of Persona 5, able to reach 120 FPS with dynamic 4K for the PS5 via a patch but who knows.

You're probably right though. Not sure if Atlus would spend extra resources for a niche market that has complete end-to-end hdmi 2.1 4K/120hz setup anytime soon.

For the Xbox, i'm not sure. I think they're quite ahead with offering hardware-wise, but the software obviously doesn't target that, as in, they don't target higher than 60fps.

As for Persona 5 attaining that for the PS5, I wouldn't doubt it. P5 isn't hugely taxing graphics-wise, and i'm sure that a release next-gen could hit 120fps. As for Atlus targeting that, I agree. They're fairly low-level in terms of graphics/performance, and instead just nail their gameplay.

Dude, if we get that with PS5, i'd be happy. I'm not sure about newer HDMI versions, so i'm actually behind on what they're capable of. I just went 4K myself, but with a 2018 Sammy Q8FN, so i'm limited at 4k/60, but you may be on the nose with 4K/120 for newer HDMI versions.

That's one of the best tvs in the market. Congrats. I need to save more.

Thanks. My last Sammy was amazing, even at 1080p. Not a single dead-pixel. This has been solid so far... I didn't grab the Q9 as it was ridiculous in Canada. This is my first TV upgrade in around 3-4 years.

I got the stupidly priced soundbar via points and about a grand of my own money. I hope it's as good as it seems. I live in a one-bed condo apt, so a full 7-speaker set just isn't viable in my living room.

Yup. I remember seeing on several forums where there were so many Home Theatre snobs where they didn't see that it just wasn't practical to have a full audio setup everytime. They pipe down after people explain.

Love me some Persona, but I'm not spending another $60 for the same game with new social links, events and a new character. They should have just made it dlc instead of this.

The point i'm trying to make is that the Japanese PC scene will always be a series of glorified petitions. If you want a certain game from Japan to be ported over to PC, you're gonna have to be willing to support the developers even when it's inconvenient for you? (i.e: Want SoulCalibur VI Season 2 and/or the next Tales Of to be on Steam? Better start buying Ace Combat 7 and God Eater 3!)

It has been this way since the failure of ClaDun X2 on Steam. Only difference between 2013 and 2019 is that we've convinced ourselves otherwise. I hope the failure of Catherine Classic will be that wakeup call to tell PC gamers to support their favourite (Japanese) developers even when they aren't releasing the game that you personally want to see on PC because once again, the creators of SoulCalibur are also the creators of Tales, and the creators of Kingdom Hearts III are also the creators of Octopath Traveler.

Yeah I know what you're talking about with the Japanese PC fanbase. My point still stands though; if they wanted an honest survey of how many people would buy their games on PC, they wouldn't throw the previous version of a game that is getting a huge expansion later on another platform. Dragon's Dogma did very well on PC and was one of Capcom's fastest selling games. They then announced the remaster after the release of the PC version.
