Persona 5 Famitsu Review

Persona 5 is coming out in Japan this month so the first reviews are going to be coming in. Famitsu has awarded the 5th installment of the Shin Megami Tensei spin off a 39/40 [10/10/10/9]. By comparison;

• Persona 4 Golden (Vita) – 35/40 [9/9/9/8]
• Persona 4 (PS2) – 33/40 [8/9/8/8]
• Persona 3 (PS2) – 33/40 [9/8/8/8]

Even without the comparison its an amazing score and its got me even more hyped for the game even though im going to have to bail on the persona 5 feeds in the next little while. Is this a sign that its going to be as amazing as I think its going to be? Are you hyped yet?

Not surprised it did so well.

It looked to be an improvement from Persona 3 and 4 in every area. An example of what a sequel is supposed to be.

Am I hyped? Not really, Persona's formula doesnt do anything for me, but I can already tell that fans of the franchise are in for a massive treat.

considering the fact that they gave FF 13-2 a 40/40 this means nothing

famitsu always overrates their games so this has me worried

Famitsu is in the same sentence as Kotaku for me, they have been for so many years.

This game is going to be amazing. I didn't believe Persona 4 could be bested but now I'm thinking Persona 5 is gonna do it.

I was gonna make a thread about the P5 animation and see what people thought about it. Figured it wasn't SW worthy though.

I was a little disappointed with the anime.

Out of curiousity, how does the slice of life stuff work in this game? Is it still about getting your Social Links up or did they shake it up?

Edit: @superflyzero that is just A-1 pictures being A-1 pictures. The McDonalds of Anime. I would hope that Atlus would try to contact a more talented studio, but at this point, I wonder if they have any say in it.

I am torn, these are the same reviewers that gave both Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword a perfect score.

No one ever takes Famitsu Reviews seriously.

Ever since Famitsu began to give numberous games a 40/40 scores (last generation) is when I began to lose trust and respect for the magazine. It is good for its information an scans of images.

I remember a time when Famitsu might have been respected? But not anymore. In either case, I'm dedicated to buying the game (I have the Special Edition pre-ordered on Amazon).

I'm a mix of stoked and frustrated in the delay between the Japan release and when the rest of us round-eye gaijin infidels get our copies. Personally I thought they should have planned a worldwide release to try to take a huge shit on Square Enix's FFXV no-doubt critical bombshell. I got a PS4 last year thinking this was releasing in 2016 and it's been pretty useless aside from making me regret that I got No Man's Sky.

Hard to tell with famitsu sometimes but perhaps jrpg greatness awaits for the west.

Heads up Famistu is easily bribed and have been known to inflate scores so as to not offend fans

Recently one of the mgs games advertised heavily in tge mag and got a perfect score I think it was peacewalker again will do some digging

Update this is the only one i could find for the MGS drama as I said it happened a while back 2009, maybe they changed

Even with typical score inflation over the years, that looks mighty good. Here's hoping the localisation team doesn't **** it up by making it dub-only or something.

I didn't know Persona was a Shin Megami Tensei spinoff.. Never played neither though.

If all goes accordingly in the West, Sony might be looking at another 10/10 here on GS. But I don't even care. It could score 1/10 and it'd still be day one for me.

That famitsu scoring system where they let 4 people give scores, but they all give the same scores.

Can't believe I never saw that trailer before. Looks really good! Can't wait. Don't want to get too hyped up though just in case.

@Litchie: maybe not a spin off per say, but like a sub-series of Shin Megami Tensei. Persona 1 was a lot like a regular Megami Tensei game

When was the last time Famitsu gave a big name weeb game a non-rave review?
