I feel like 5 is a clear improvement on 4 in pretty much every way. I did not play 3. Actually I only played the original 4 and not the Golden version. Those uninteresting procedural dungeons ruined an otherwise great game for me. Teddy was rather irritating too I thought.

Pretty much.
I've only played 3 and I'm 90 hours into 5, but damn, as much as I love 3, I'm going to have to go with 5. It improves on the gameplay in pretty much every way, has the superior soundtrack, has better dungeons, and a more gripping story. I personally like the characters in 3 a bit more and the dialogue is a little more memorable, but 5 is definitely the superior entry, and is therefore one of my favorite games of all time. I'm excited to see how the game ends.
I'd have to go with Persona 5, even though Persona 4 didn't drag out in the beginning like P5 did. As for Persona 3....holy **** did it drag out, you could easily put 80-100 hours into it which is something I dont have time for anymore.
I've yet to play P5 but probably won't beat P3P for me, that is if portables count.
Everything in P3P was 2D except for the combat which made for faster social linking. Not having to load into each area and walk around to talk to a single person made the social aspect playable. The story also got darker as time went on which I really liked.
The OST is also better by a mile.
Just started Persona 5, so can't really judge it yet beyond so-far so-good.
I like Persona 3 and 4 almost equally, except Persona 4 edges out giving players total party control.
Persona 4 doesn't have much of a better story in comparisons to 5, but the Social interactions you have with your teammates is better in that game (Persona 4) IMO.
I think Persona 4 Golden is still the best game in the series.
I agree with you tbh but I still voted for Persona 5 because they improved on every mechanic of the game in every way. Everything is just so stylish. Persona 4 Golden still has better music, tho
Didn't play 5 but 3 is better than 4, even though the latter is more refined and better paced, it lacked a great climax like 3 and in the end i was not as satisfied with its closure.
The male protagonist of 3 is an awful emo tho, Persona 3 Portable with the female MC is the best version.

Persona 3 Portable is the definitive version of Persona 3 because you get a new MC and you can control your whole party but no anime cutscenes, you have to move that God awful cursor around the whole game, and they took away The Answer. I like P3P. I'm actually playing right now and can't wait to beat it but it's definitely bittersweet imo
We should rename it the "Char Persona board" :P
I've been pushing for that for years now

Gave me a genuine lol
Is it weird that I have listened to nearly the entire P3 soundtrack, but never played the game itself?
Once I found out that the dungeon looks exactly the same for all 100 floors, I couldnt bring myself to play it.
Heartful cry is probably one of the best boss fight themes ever. Right up there with one winged angel, and the zeromus theme.
Story: 3>5>4
Characters: 5>4>3
OST: 3>5>4
S.links: 5>4>3
Gameplay: 5>4>3
This is hard for me because 3 has the best moment of all 3 games, but 5 is the most consistently good...
...
Im going to bite the bullet and say 5...
Characters: 4>5>3
Soundtrack: 4>3>5
Confidants: 5>4>3
Mechanics: 5>4>3
Still haven't finished the story yet so I can't comment on the story. Hard to say overall which title is my favorite but at mid point of all three, probably P4. The soundtrack in P5 appears to be a lot smaller than the previous. I don't ever remember the other titles being as repetitive as P5. Beneath the mask is literally the only walk theme it plays.

You can still beat the game without doing the tower.

Tartarus has 250 floors. It's even worse than you thought lmao

262 actually
Judging them by the standards of when each of them launched;
5 = 3 > 4
But all of them are good, so who cares.
Soundtrack progressively gets worst while the mechanics improve. I keep nagging about the P5 soundtrack because I was really disappointed. Not that it's bad but because it is repitive escially when you are out and about the map.
Persona 5
School theme: Beneath the Mask
Home theme: Beneath the Mask
P5 map theme: Beneath the Mask
Persona 4
School theme: Heartbreak, Your Affection (Depending on weather)
Home theme: Signs of Love
Map theme: Heartbreak, Your Affection (Depending on weather)
Persona 3
School theme: Want to be close
Home theme: Iwatodai dorm
Map theme: When the Moon's Reaching Out Stars
I mean they either must have ran into a budget dilemma or just love Beneath the Mask. There're season themes too like Snowflakes and Changing Seasons. Not sure if it's just BtM yet again for P5 but assuming from the pattern that'll be the case.

Didn't realize I already comment in this thread. lmao

Huh? This is wrong- have you forgotten about this?
@Legend002: The only problem I have with P5's soundtrack is the lead female's voice. It just seems out of place with the music and lyrics. It's like they got a wanna be Aretha Franklin when they should have gone with a younger singer with a sexy voice like P4.
naw, she has a great voice. Her voice works well with the jazz style, more so than the P4 singer would imo. Then fit their respective styles.
I've yet to play P5 so I can only choose between 3 and 4. I really prefer P3 even though 4 was amazing as well. I think I just liked the darker tone it had.The ending was quite good as well (in my opinion). P4 is also amazing it has a ton of style and P5 seems to be oozing even more. I can't wait to play it but I'm pushing it back to a time when I can really dedicate my schedule to it. I enjoy Persona most when I can really just dive into it and spend hours on it.
I've yet to play Persona 5 so for now, I'm choosing Persona 3. Started with 4 and loved it, but I loved 3 even more.
Probably P5. Although trying to do New Game+ sucks in P5. I gave in after reaching the half way point in the 2nd Palace. I'll be back on it someday but not really in the mood right now.
I don't remember the others being so annoying when it comes to story bits and time wasting but I might just be forgetting about it. I was close to picking P3 because of this.
