Sorry, but these consoles are not competent. 1TB of storage is ridiculously small even by last generation standards. Xbox Series X will have 800GB of usable storage and less than 700GB of usable storage for PS5. It's an unacceptable annoyance, and these consoles aren't ready for next gen. What's the point of dealing with that and buying overpriced proprietary storage which still isn't enough? Even then, you'll only have about 1.5TB of storage, and even that's too small, and that's after you just spent an extra $220! Then take into consideration you're taking a graphics hit which won't be as good as PC. These consoles aren't ready for prime time, and PC gaming has never looked so much better than console gaming as it does now.

Gotta make do with swapping games you don't play. Dump them into a cheap external HDD of 4TB and retransfer them when you need them.

These consoles all come in at $500 and less. Even $400 for the PS5 so can't expect 2TB of ultra fast SSD at that price. Though I do admit, it'd have been cool for them to come out with models sporting bigger drives out of the gate. I would have probably paid for a 1.65GB PS5.

I would have paid $1,000 for a proper next gen console. They screwed these consoles out of basic minimum requirement specs just to meet a $500 price tag. These consoles aren't ready for next gen.

Yeah the storage space is a bit small but sacrifices must be made to bring out a competent system for $500 and they’re taking a loss on that price to boot. I’d rather they make that sacrifice on storage space then another more important aspect of the system. I can always buy more storage space later on so that makes it a fixable sacrifice.

It's okay. There are only three or four must have exclusives per every PlayStation generation anyway. That's like 250 to 300 GB.

Lol.

@arkephonic: IMO there's no way around it. You say they weren't ready? I disagree. Waiting two years would yield better specs - but equally so game sizes and pc hardware will increase. So release today, tomorrow, 5 years from now... If they want to charge 500 or less it will always be a relatively modest package compared to the big picture at that time.

But for the Xbox Series X for example, aren't you limited to buying their 1TB proprietary storage option? I'm talking about for full functionality, playing next gen games from it, no transferring BS.

@arkephonic: I’m sure that they’ll have larger sizes later on. Buy a couple of the 1TB cards if it’s that much of a problem. They’re hot swappable.

This to me is a similar situation to blu ray in the PS3, a little bit ahead of its time. Maybe they should have gone with just a standard SSD, it didn't have to be an NVMe because clearly they couldn't provide sufficient storage with NVMe. In a perfect world, they would have released another option of console for $1,000 with a 2TB NVMe SSD.

I don't even agree with what I just said, I'd rather have NVMe than standard SSD. I'm just really unhappy with these console specs, gonna pass until they release a revision I'm happy with.

Upgrading storage space in the PS5 will cost the same as upgrading PC storage space. Not a big deal.

Bingo, here we go, summed it all up in 2 sentences which could have even been 1 sentence. Consoles used to be good because of convenience. That convenience is gone.

They're just games consoles, 700GB is more than enough. Its not like they have to reserve space for pirated movies and a VR porn collection.

Here are the top sized games I have

CoD: MW Warzone

Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition

Forza Horizon 4

Gears 5

Halo MCC

Halo 5

Resident Evil 2

Jedi Fallen Order

Oops, 8 games

I won't even buy anymore games because I like my games I have and I don't wanna delete any. I recently sold a bunch of PS4 games because I chose my favorites, put them on my HDD and sold the rest. If it doesn't fit on my HDD, I will sell it or just not buy it.

They don't have COD on their list there but even if you had those 10 games listed installed on your console you would still have just under 100GB of usable space left (they total 681.2 GB and the usable space is 781)

PC gaming isn't for everybody, and these consoles will suffice for most people who want an easier and cheaper system. HDD space isn't going to change that for people.

Consoles are still more convenient. On xbox you literally plug a card in the back to upgrade. On PS5, it's about the same as PC. Not sure why TC is making a huge issue out of this.

I personally think that console gaming has never been as desirable. Consoles getting most of the things I thought was cool about PC gaming and I still have the convenience of just sitting on my couch and chilling... it's a win/win for me. Then you throw in the fact I can still get physical games and that they have taken some pretty big strides towards making cross play fair for everyone (much better as times progresses) and it pretty much just comes down to personal preference after that. I'd rather use my controller and play on my 85" TV than sit in an uncomfortable chair staring at a small monitor using a mouse.

I'm honestly not even in a hurry to buy a console now. They're underpowered, terrible storage space, games ending up on PC anyway. That's why my priority right now is getting my PC right. But, it's extremely hard to do right now since everybody and their mother is trying to do the same thing. FUUUUUU-

I mean, PC gaming will always be the better option when it comes to performance and graphical fidelity but it comes at a cost. If you can afford the best gaming experience then great for you.

PC hardware is vastly superior to console hardware, it will always be the first place. It is also the first system to enjoy pretty much every innovation out there.

Now with Sony and MS putting their stuff on PC, I have even less of an incentive to buy PS5 or XSX. And Nintendo is beholded to stockholders, so its only a matter of time before they start putting their stuff on PC as well.

I came to this realization in 2013. I've been a console gamer since 1989, haven't bought one since 2013 because I realized that with PCs coming down significantly in price, consoles climbing, and not having the kind of backwards compatibility, moddability, or library that PC has, that I'd be better off with PC in the long run. So I never bought an Xbox One, or a PS4, or even a Wii-U or Switch, and I don't think I'll be buying any of the next gen stuff either.

A lot of it has to do with console gaming looking worse.

Aside from Nintendo, wouldn't touch that other shit with a 10 foot barge pole.

Feel bad for kids today, won't have those awesome Sega/Nintendo excitement we grew up with, just a choice between interchangeable brick stuffed full of fresh shitty business practices trying to condition them for every penny they can.

Yeah, until you have to pay for that shit lol. I'm one of those that does the maximum, unless i'm budget-constrained. This new build was constrained initially, but i've got some unexpected funds so I can just go nuts... Still, I need a PS5 for the exclusives.

@arkephonic: Lol, maybe you would pay $1000 for a console, but history has shown us that high priced consoles are dead from the get go.

Which console do you think Barron Trump uses.

Also wrapped up in "consumer friendly" "for the gamer" marketing. BS detector goes to high alert, none of these companies care about their consumers like that.

Yup I’m sticking with my pc and switch. On my pc I have all my games from thr 90s to current all in one place and a total of about 12tb worth of hd space.....playstation is over here trying to sell a remaster of a 2 year old Spiderman game instead of giving us backwards compatibility. Screw that. I am intrigued with gamepass on pc though. My buddy has it and it’s a great value.

The lack of storage is the least of these consoles problems. They do nothing unique and the launch titles look to be among the worst lineups I seen in a while. The fact the number of console exclusive games is diminishing and PCs shrinking barrier of entry cost wise, it's becoming a no-brainer for me.

That being said, I still tried (but failed) to preorder each of the consoles. I guess I'm conflicted because I gamed on console all my life and it feels weird to give it up. Either way I'm waiting to see what AMD does before jumping in and making a decision. I'll most likely wait until the middle of next year. The graphics card bugs should be ironed out and I can see if the consoles libraries are starting to shape up.

Just uninstall the games you're not playing. It's really not a big deal lol.

I too remember when consoles were more convenient. Now it's the polar opposite.

Bingo, here we go, summed it all up in 2 sentences which could have even been 1 sentence. Consoles used to be good because of convenience. That convenience is gone.

Please!

In an "apples to apples" comparison, co soles are still more convenient than PC's. Although not as straightforward as they used to be, consoles are still WAY MORE "plug n play" than PC's are atm

So the TC would have payed $1000 for consoles with bigger SSD capacity, but he can't pay $500 plus around $220?... to get the exact same thing...for less...
