While No Mans Sky is very impressive it's still just one fake galaxy that only will have a 100,000 or so star systems. This is Space Engine. It is a complete 3D simulation of our entire Hubble Volume (Observable Universe) that features trillions upon trillions upon trillions of galaxies which you can visit every star, planet, moon, asteroid, comet in the entire cosmos. And best of all it's completely free. If you have any interest in Astronomy I implore you to check this amazing "game" out.

To me they both are but I can see where stuff like this is subjective.

Doesnt mean much if it got 100 000 or trillions of solarsystems, how detailed/meaningful do you think each place will be? Do you want a replica of universe, a game you not can beat in your lifetime?

It is the "feeling" that matters, who knows which game is best/ most fun...

Procedural generation is a very powerful tool. No Mans Sky uses this as well. But Space Engine is based after real world science.

so yeah, as i suspected its procedurally generated.

Personally, i prefer my games to have an element of fun, and that means aliens and space dinosaurs.

so i will choose to play no mans sky, which without needing another galaxy to explore, i could never get to see all of it even if i spent all my life trying.

@vtoshkatur: like i said, i prefer my games to be fun. No mans sky looks like it could be truly awesome. the project you posted about is essentially "google galaxy". but since our best telescopes cannot even see extrasolar planets, its basically made up bullshit, same as no mans sky except without spaceships / aliens /fun.

we have so little knowledge about our own galaxy, let alone the billions of others... that no mans sky may actually be quite accurate lol.. who knows whats out there?

you are on a video game forum, this shit isn't a game.

Obviously you have no idea what you're talking about. You lost all credibility in the field of Astronomy when you said "even hubble cannot resolve the planets orbiting stars in our galaxy," If you actually think a telescope that's 25 years old is what Astronomers use to "hunt planets" then you need to take more than just a few courses in Astronomy; try going back to square one. The next planet hunting telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope will be able to resolve extra solar planets as well as being able to sniff out what the chemical composition of said Exoplanets atmosphere. (Yes and it will be able to detect organic molecules as well) Also Space Engine was written by someone who holds TWO PH.D's and is widely praised and used as a tool by actual scientists in the field. But I guess expanding your knowledge isn't what you consider "fun"...

100,000 star systems in NMS? It's like you've blatantly chosen to ignore everything we know about the game.

NMS will have things to do, to upgrade, to explore and an objective to follow. This little PC exclusive is what's quaint compared to NMS.

What's with the meh reactions? I think mine was "Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit! I have to download this now."

That said I am a big fan of universe Sandbox 1 and 2. Those I do count as games, because you can spawn things and get up to all kinds of nonsense.

Everything we know about the game is that there's not a semblence of engaging gameplay in it at this point.

And that it randomly denerates shit in ~ 1 Km radius around you and deletes everything that's not in it, so literally nothing exists outside your little bubble.

Colliding entire galaxies into each other seems a tad bit more fun to me.

Talk about "blatantly" ignoring things. Obviously you have no interest in Astronomy; therefore this post was not meant for the likes of you in the first place, As you demonstrated either a complete lack of interest in science or that you simply lack the mental capacity to enjoy things such as Space Engine.

No Man's Sky has 4 billion star systems.

Space Engine is not a game either, it's literally a procedural generation engine based our current knowledge of our universe. There is no game there. It's more of a scientific tool and procedural generation experiment than anything.

I'm locking this because of the misinformation and the fact that Space Engine is not a game.
