PS3 $400-500
360 $349 but wait battery charger $20, I need to play online or my 360 is useless and I can't show off my achievements $50, damn it my super awesome HDTV is downstairs and my Router upstairs...Wi-Fi $100 Total: $520 + $50 each year after that for Live. and if you got your 360 in 05, and lests say next-gen starts 2012 that's like $300 more...so $820, and once installs are available gotta get that 120GB HDD $170, so 360 in reality costs around $1,000.

Think about it. The enitial cost of the PS3 is a little more but once you pay that thats it. You dont have to spend a ton of money on batteries for your controllers, PSN is free and the system doesnt break constantly so no repair costs. So overall you pay a smaller first fee for Xbox but it sucks your money away over time. PS3 doesnt do that. It's like the Xbox is a car note and the PS3 is already been payed off up front. Fanboy or not you cant deny this.wiidog
Yes but unfortunately for Sony most people don't look at it that way they just want it cheap up front and don't look into hidden costs.

That is true but is it really worth it? Is playing Halo 3 really worth RROD and worse value when you can play equaly great games on PS3 or PC? I just dont get it. Grannit there are some games on Xbox that I would like to have on PS3 but none of em are worth the overall price of the Xbox.

The only way the 360 costs $1000 is if you are factoring in all the games you should buy for it.
This adding game is insane, and way, way, way too played out, even by SW standards.

Did I add a single game? And it still ended up costing a $1,000.
The PS3 has some really great games(not saying the Xbox doesnt) so why dont Xbox gamers get a ps3 if they know that it's a better investment?
wiidog
It's all a matter of opinion. What you have stated is not fact, and the sooner you realize that, the better off you'll be. Is the PS3 really a better investment? I don't think so. If you want a BluRay player, yeah it is. But if you're a gamer, I believe the 360 is.
To me, the 360 has far better games, and a lot of people think so. The PS3 is just a BluRay player. XBL is a far better online service. Does this mean what I am saying is fact? No. It's just my opinion.
Honestly all this talk about you have to get this, you have to get that, blah blah blah blah blah. Truly how much extra crap do you need for a console? I paid $370 for my 360 total, because all I needed extra was a rechargeable battery setup. I didn't need Wifi cause my cable modem is sitting on my TV stand, I don't really count an Xbox Live sub into the price of the console since its an optional thing and not everyone is going to make use of it. Plus if you want to play that card then to everyone who bought a PS3 before the Dual Shock 3 came out that's at least another $60 you forked out for the new controller, plus you gotta get the HDMI cable which doesn't come with the PS3, and since hard drives are filling up you gotta fork out extra cash for a bigger hard drive to fit all those installs.
So basically they work out to be about the same all things considered and did the idea that someone might go with a console and take all the little extra costs that come with it simply because they like that console and what all it has to offer? Man this stupid argument is old... since when did gaming become about everything but having fun and enjoying what you purchased and supported?
The PS3 has some really great games(not saying the Xbox doesnt) so why dont Xbox gamers get a ps3 if they know that it's a better investment?
wiidog
As an owner of both, i would say that the PS3 is the better system in terms of what you get for your money. It's just more bang for the buck. In terms of power, game-wise, though, they're both the same. So it all comes down to the game, and in that department the 360 is just the hands down winner. Until last year my PS3 was a terrible dust collector.
The 360 simply has better games, and more games to boot. It's just a shame the console is so unreliable.

You're a flat out fool. You said the 360 is useless w/o online play, I played the xbox gen1 without LIVE and it suited my needs just fine, who's to say others don't do the same this gen? And if they dont need LIVe, they dont need router, nor do they need huge HDD, nor do they need yearly subscriptions, etc etc. Nice attempt, but no.are you kidding me? first you boast about how great live is, live is god, then you say I don't even use it :|

He said quite clearly that he did just fine with the xbox 1 without live. His point is obviously that online isn't necessary; as you should know, as xbox live gold subscribers are in the minority of 360 owners.

You forgot the 4 extra controllers, thats about $200, also, you need some dust rages in case it gets dusty, thats $5, then theres thedisc cleaner, another $30, and then theres the extra cables, which are, together, about $50. Theres also the snacks and soda in case you get hungry or thirsty while gaming, thats about $30 weekly, and then you need 3 spare battery chargers, about $60 more dollars, and finally, you need special brushed to clean the controllers, about $20 more...
as long as you're playing that way.. oh i need a quality HD cable and it didnt come with the console $100, i need a second sixaxis for mp $50; oh wait they released new dualshocks $110, oh no the wireless on my ps3 isn't working well, let's try a new gaming router $150, i heard i can replace the hd so lets buy a 320gb one $200, oh no it voids the warranty and i'm DRE'ing so let's buy a new ps3 $400. as long as you're playing the 'buying unneccessary things and paying more because you don't know any better' game re: the 360's wireless gaming adapter, the ps3's operating at a massive handicap because of the hdmi cables and monster ones costing $150+ hahah. not to mention.. yeah, if the wireless ends up being flaky, they're going to have to buy a whole new router before they realize it's the ps3's fault.you are correct sir

Yeah ninja understood it. I said I played on original xbox w/o LIVE, once I got the 360 i tried LIVE and love it. Hhhmm.. no. With the PS3 you still have to buy things like the HDMI cable, DS3 controller, headset, a new HDD (after loading 16+ mandatory games and using up all your space), lithium batteries (because they will die eventually in those PS3 controllers), PS3 remote and any other accessory you decide to purchase.
At least when I bought my 360 it came with a remote, headset, controller with rumble, HDMI cable and new batteries for the controller. I didn't have to charge my controller first before playing the games.
