link-http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109646-One-Fifth-of-PS3-Owners-Are-Eyeing-the-Exit A new survey has found that one-fifth of PlayStation 3 owners in the U.S. are considering a switch to the Xbox 360 in the wake of the Great PlayStation Network Security Breach. Someday, the news will stop being bad for Sony. That day is not today, however. This probably won't come as much of a surprise to anyone with even a passing familiarity with the still-ongoing PSN train wreck but it turns out that a significant number of PS3 owners are giving thought to crossing the aisle to sit with the other side. Commissioned by CouponCodes4U "in order to assess gamer attitudes towards the affair," the survey encompassed 2132 people across the U.S., finding that 41 percent of them own PlayStation 3 consoles. 89 percent of those PS3 owners said they were concerned that their personal data may have been stolen in the breach; 65 percent said their trust in Sony and PSN had been "greatly affected"; and 21 percent claimed they were considering selling their PS3 units and switching to Microsoft's Xbox 360. "As a video gamer myself, this data theft is especially worrying and I'm not altogether surprised that Sony are likely to see an exodus to console competitors," said CouponCodes4U Chairman Mark Pearson. "As hackers get more and more intelligent, companies simply have to keep up. Sony has a responsibility to its millions of customers to protect personal details and this data theft proves that they weren't capable of doing so. It's clear that gamers across the country have decided that this failing is enough to switch their allegiances to the console's closest rival." Sony recently said that the credit card information on the PSN was in fact encrypted, but the inevitable lawsuits have already begun to fly and financial analysts say the mess could end up costing Sony as much as $24.5 billion to clean up.

I don't understand why people would shell out extra money to get their fix in for online gaming. Yes what happened and how they handled it was poor and myself included here went and cancel my card just to be safe but I wouldn't consider shelling extra money out just to play games.

The guys attacking PSN claimed to be doing so to attack Sony not our selves the innocent consumers! When did that change I wonder or has it?

To leave your PS3 for something else because of this is just plain dumb.

I am sure the poll is off because it's an internet poll, I can gaurantee that it was rigged in some way.

I said this in the other thread, only the weak and the desperate will leave the PS3 for this reason.

I think switching because of the PSN outage would be stupid and a waste of money. They should just be patient.

The only reason I could see people leaving is a) they are short sighted or b) they don't trust Sony with their personal information

Lets just say I wouldnt be surprised if this was true.

I dont think it will matter though, its coming out that no credit info was stolen and within a month the general public will have long forgotten all about this.

the worst decision of ALLL time if they do that 1. They're gonna waste more than 400 USD on just online! BUY the same game and whatnot. 2. its pathetic! its ONLY temporary and your CC is stuff is most likely SAFE 3.They're idiots 4.Its a survery

Some people are freaking out right now, but I highly doubt many will actually make a permanent switch. Some may pick up an XBOX to go along with their PS3, but after PSN comes back on they'll go right back to it and move on with their lives.

Are you talking about the link you posted because if you think around 2000 people on the poll in your thread is most psn users then the TCs poll is just as good.

In another 6 months, people will forget all about this and play CoD online like nothing ever happened. Remember how many people gave up on 360 due to RROD back in 2006-2007? Doesn't look like many people care about RROD anymore, so same thing will happen with this.

But you said most PSN users and tried to discredit his poll that is the confusing part. How is most PSN users only around 2,000 people since you used your poll to discredit his?

Oh no the online for my console has been down for a week. I better buy another console that I hadn't previously wanted as much as the one I have now, then I should probably smash my current one so that I can never buy anything for it again.

Im not sure how this could help them? Data was already stolen and now with extra security, it wont happen again (I suppose). If some are willing to switch just to play online again earlier, then thats pretty sad.

Oh a fellow Buckeye fan huh.

On topic: I wouldn't switch over this if I had a PS3. Even if Sony came off with "we are canning online altogether", I wouldn't switch. I would just go back to PC only.
