Well I just finished it. 21 hours. Although I'm planning to replay it again, I made a good guy now I want to try bad, change some of the things I picked and see the 4 different endings.
It was a great game, also in the 21 hours I didn't do a lot of the side quests because I got so caught up in the great main storyso I'll finish them on the second go as well.
My only problems were the texture pop-in's started to get really annoying. In some cut scenes they didn't even have time to load up right so half the characters were all flat and weird. The other was I wish the romance part of it was a bit better. I really liked it in Kotor with bastila, it grew through out the game but thisonly happensafter 3 or 4 talks.I hope they expand on the same romance in the second so it can get a lot deeper.
Also the characters backstories weren't as good as kotor. You had bastila and her mother andCarth and his family but these ones really only skimp on them. You could tell bioware was holding back to make it unfold throughout the trilogy though that does make it a bit more realistic, who gives their whole life story to a person you've known only for a few days?
Other than those problems it rocked. I also still think it has one of the best levels in any game ever.
I've been looking forward to playing it and I must say for the 3 hours I have been playing it the game is freakin good, the whole start of the game is really well paced and theres never a moment your wanting to really let it go (although I had to for awhile).
So far the games thrown a nice story at me and the gameplay while not seeming like it would fit into an rpg environment is pretty well done, I mean sure they don't have the same impact is gears of war weapons but there still rounded into the universe nicely.
(Also the technical issues are rare (except the texture pop-ins which happen everytime you load a save but its like 5 seconds an there gone) and will not hamper the game dramatically which is why nearly all the reviewers are able to look past them).
The main critical path is 20-30 hours long, though it feels a bit shorter - probably because the main missions are quite long, so there aren't as many as you'd imagine. Optional side quests should supply you another 20 hours or so, and gave us a fun, Star Trek-like sense of wonder and exploration.Games Radar
That adds up to 40-50 hours, something I find considerably more believable than 12-20 hours. Do people just not know how to play RPGs or something? You're not *supposed* to rush through them.

But additional length doesn't revolve solely around side-quests. Exploration and achievements will likely add at least another 10+ hours to the game. Seeing as how there are over (apparently) 30 additional locations to visit, most being completely open, the 10 additional hours shouldn't seem like much of a stretch. So Mass Effect is a 40-50 hour game which heavily focuses on replayability.
Guys, stop arguing about the game's length. Every person has a different play style. Just because I go through as much as I can in order to get the most out of the game on the first playthrough, another person might just follow the main path, ignore needless conversations, and not explore too much. That person's game length will be a lot less than mine will be even if I do just follow the main path as well.
Bottom line is, you wont know how long the game will last YOU until you beat it. Just because IGN says "30 hours" doesn't mean that as soon as you reach the 30th hour of gameplay you automatically win.
MASS EFFECT.....8.5!!!!!!!! FLOP AM CONFIRMED.....this sucks ...i really thought this was ghoing to be goty at first....and unchrted got 8.0= not a flop
With Mass Effect being the latest victim of GS this leaves us pretty much with Mario Galaxy for GOTY.. Damn I was hoping ME wouldn't flop either, it looks great! Err I mean superb..
You know, I have to say... I'm glad that this game didn't get 9.0 here. It looks like a perfectly good game, but from what I've read about it it just doesn't fit the standards GS has set by their other reviews.
Man, I'm never going to forgive GS for flopping this game, just like I still resent them screwing over Jade Empire. How can they give overrated mediocrity like the Halo series AAA ratings while rating such masterpieces of interactive storytelling so low?
Hmm... 8.5. Oh well, I'm leaving System Wars for tonight. All hell is going to break loose (Because, y'know, that's what gamers do... they complain about review scores).
In the end I was 2/4 for review predictions for my most anticipated games of the year... I wonder if that's good or not...
