So the Quest came out a few weeks ago. They have sold out across all outlets including Amazon and on their own website. Looks like it’ll be a few weeks at least after ordering one that you will receive it so production is still rockin.

This is the first VR headset I’m really interested in. Tried the Rift for a few weeks but hated having all the cables attached to me all the time. I’m really thinking about buying this and devs are stating that they are already finding the most successful sales on Quest over any other platform. Reviews are all positive being the only complaints as slightly too heavy and battery life only being 3 hrs.

Anyone else here interested in taking the dive with the Quest?

If I was ever going to get in to VR, this would be the way. Not that weak PSVR shit...

I’m able to order from Best Buy right now with no delay. Amazon ships in the 29th and Walmart says out of stock. I think this is more Oculus shipping according to demand instead of demand outpacing supply. VR hasn’t really done well to this point. And I’ve purchased 2 headsets, so I’m no hater or anything.

Anyhow for real though, I am very positive about VR but I dont see the hype of Oculus Quest anywhere. Am I in the wrong side of the world or what?

@goldenelementxl: weird. For me it shows Best Buy being sold out and not available for online or in store purchases. Can you link me to where you see it in stock and ready to ship? Thanks in advanced.

If you say so, but isn't it a VR system that depends on its power from the PS4?

Correct and the PS4 is stronger than the Quest.

Ok. I thought Quest was powered by a stronger PC unit. Isn't this thing like $1000 or something? Forgive my ignorance on the subject, I've never even seen a VR system in person.

That'll teach me to not take a screenshot... I'm telling you it was in my cart! Now I can only get the S and not the Quest on the BB website. Sorry

It's not artificial at all. It does them no favors to limit it on purpose.

There was a marketing video with about 17 million views and lots of huge billboards around places like San Francisco.

It also has this fairly common effect of getting people to buy it after trying it, probably more effective on that front than any tech product in years. Word of mouth is working well.

The Oculus Rift S is powered by PC. The Oculus Quest is standalone.

How much weaker is Quest than the original PS4?

If it was actually powerful, it would be cool. I would rather be tethered and have a powerful headset. I already have the original Rift since launch. Valve Index would be the next headset I would buy if it wasn't so expensive. Considering how little I actually use VR, I can't justify spending big money on a headset again.

Mkay. That doesn't tell me anything, as I have no idea how many units that is. But if VR is picking up in sales, that's awesome. I want to see it flourish and improve.

i'm more leaning towards the index. a headset is something i intend to buy once every 10 years (until it breaks basically) so i would prefer to get a really good one and stick with it for ages.

the tethered thing is a pain but im sure someone will release a wireless addon for it like the vive.

Bu... Bu.. VR is a gimmick back to Fortnite Battle royale!!!! joking aside VR is great. I got a Oculus back in 2016 and it was a real game changer in not only gaming but entertainment as a whole. Quest seems really cool but I'm fine with waiting to see what the next gen Oculus headset will be like. I've had so many awesome experiences playing in VR from a old school arcade 90's theme emulator to playing old games in VR like Mirror's Edge, F.E.A.R., GTA4 ect.. the term mind blowing gets thrown out alot in gaming but experiencing VR especially for the first time truly is.

dont care how cheap or popular it is..i would never buy it.

i'd rather be tethered to 10 different wires if it means having the best possible specs for VR then to have it be wireless and have shitty hardware.

Deliberately understocking to create quick sellouts and artificially increase demand is one of the oldest marketing tricks in the book.

You really love to drive this bizarre narrative that has no indication of being true, and logically wouldn't make sense.

Holy crap! They said end pf the month but it already just came in now! Gonna unbox and charge this baby and try it out tonight! So, if you order from Oculus store the turnaround is quick. Lucky experiment.

Annnnnnd just using it for 3 hours now and I’m in love. This destroys the experience I had with the Rift hands down.

@darthbuzzard: "...and logically wouldn't make sense."

It makes perfect sense. Suppose you have a product that isn't in high demand. You can ship more than enough so that everyone who wants one can buy one, and then a week later, sales dry up, and nobody is talking about it anymore.

Or, you deliberately ship far less than the market can bear which causes the product to sell out almost immediately leaving potential buyers scrambling, calling stores all over to see if it's in stock (which gives the false impression to retailers that it's in high demand), posting on internet forums about how it's so hard to find, maybe get a couple of news sites to bite and run articles... now your week worth of sales is stretched out over weeks, or months, and you have more people talking about it which is free advertising and could drive additional sales.

If you were a business owner, which would you prefer?

@dzimm: honestly I’m surprised they didn’t appear at E3 to simply show the new unit off and remind everyone that the Quest is now on sale everywhere. They have FB money.

They were at E3 actually, demoing the Quest and Rift S.

It doesn't make sense considering how much marketing they blew all at once. A video with 20 million views and huge billboards all over certain US cities. If you're going to play that game, you don't go all in on marketing right away.

@mtron32: there are more than 50 additional games coming by the end of the year. Oculus is doing it kinda smart it seems and going hardcore on quality control and I think also catering to the game creators by not over saturating the store right away. I’m honestly glad for that because being new to VR there is already soooo much to explore.
