Octopath Traveler rated for PC in Korea

Octopath Traveler, Square Enix's absolutely gorgeous Switch RPG, could be jumping the fence and launching on PC, if a rating from Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee is accurate.

The rating appeared today and the page has since been taken down, but ResetEra member Rodjer managed to capture it before it vanished into the ether. The PC version will be published by Bandai Namco, apparently, at least in Korea.

Octopath Traveler launched on Switch last year, where it's gathered quite a large audience. It's an unusual juxtaposition of old SNES-era JRPGs and modern experiments, from the striking 2D-HD aesthetic to the turn-based battle system that hides more than a few twists. It's also eight RPG adventures in one, with eight heroes with unique origins, skills and quests.

So far it's only appeared on Switch, though a mobile prequel was announced last month. The free to play game will retain the style and some of the features of the original, but with larger battles, more characters and post-launch story additions. The timing means it's plausible that this is actually what's coming to PC, though it would be a little bit odd if we only got a mobile prequel and not the main game.

I've reached out to Square Enix to find out if the listing was accurate.

Seeing how it runs on Unreal Engine, being ported to other platforms was almost a given.

Cool if true. Seems like pretty good game, and I know more people than Switch owners wants it.

Saw this coming a MILE away! For f*** sake, it's a Square Enix game, you think they wouldn't port this?

Would be awesome if true, I'd definitely double-dip for a PC version.

IB4 SE pulls an Epic Fail store exclusive

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. I had a great time playing this game on my Switch so the more people that can enjoy it, the better.

@davillain-: You seem to have no problem buying from the Epic Store. We might have to assassinate your PC if any exclusive you bought from the store has proven success ( ͡ಠ ʖ̯ ͡ಠ)

I just don't pick sides between Steam & Epic. I just happen to go where the game lands ya'know. At least with the upcoming release game like The Outer Worlds, it's also coming to Windows 10 and I'll play it on Windows 10 instead of Epic. I avoid Epic if I could.

Why should a third-party game have to be exclusive to one platform? Most are not as the more platforms a game appears in, the more money its developer gets.

Does seem abit much.

I wonder if Nintendo's publishing agreement for the game in North America will get in the way of a PC release here. The Nintendo-published "Devil's Third" did get a PC version, but it was so heavily truncated that it became a different game with a different title.

@uninspiredcup: it's got heavy DoF. Still, it's a clear and consistent artistic choice for the game. Not something that gets in the way off the graphics, necessarily, but it does take them in a direction

@R4gn4r0k: Screenshots don't really do the game justice. Its stunning when you see it in motion.

Now the people who pretended to hate this game can finally admit that they were just jealous it was a Switch exclusive.

Don't recall people hating on the game, the only JRPG that pops up as routinely shat upon tends to be Final Fantasy.

I love this game so much. I hope it gets out on all of the systems so more people can play it!

One of those people, huh? Like those fighting gamers that refuse to call Smash a "proper fighter" or those shooter fans that refuse to call Splatoon a "proper shooter".

This game really failed to impress me on a number of different levels.

Ummm I agree with Cup here because Octopath Traveler never got hated, it was heavenly praise and I enjoy the game myself and I'll rebuy it again just to add it into my Steam collection.
