http://liliputing.com/2013/12/nvidia-shield-now-streams-pc-games-to-tv-at-1080p.html

The December update now lets you use physical buttons to replace motion-based gyroscrope movements as well as taps and swipes. For example, games that normally let you move left or right by tilting your phone or tablet can now be controlled by pressing a left or right button.

There’s also an option called “accelerated cursor” for games like Angry Birds which you can control with a cursor. Instead of having the cursor automatically move back to the center of the screen after an action, you can have it stay where it was to save you time on your next move.

The other big change in the December update is support for streaming some PC games to your TV at 1080p resolutions and 60 frames per second. If you have a PC with a supported NVIDIA graphics card you can stream games to your handheld device — and then use an HDMI cable to view those games on your TV. This basically turns the Shield into a remote control and media extender for your PC, letting you play PC games anywhere in the house (while they’re still actually running on your gaming PC, wherever it is).

Up until now you’d only been able to stream Android games to a TV at 1080p resolutions. PC games were limited to 720p.

SteamBox may be dead on arrival. You don't need additional hardware to do this either.

Got to ask, what the frigs the point? If you want to see your PC displayed on your TV, why not just take the HDMI cable you would have used for the shield, and crack it in the back of your PC instead? At least that way there's no input latency.

Because not everybody has their PC and television in the same setup? I like to use my PC at a desk and not a television.

Only works with NVIDIA hardware. My Mini-ITX based PC (with Radeon HD R9-290) is portable enough for LAN parties.

There's this other crazy new piece of tech that streams PC games to your TV in full 1080p. It's called an HDMI cable.

But that's not all!

You may be saying, "My PC isn't in the same entertainment center setup as my TV", and, "My HDMI cable won't even reach to the door of the computer room, how is it supposed to reach my TV?"

*insert grainy black and white video of people being very animated about how frustrating it is to look like an idiot, pulling to stretch a 3-foot cable, as if it can almost reach that extra 15 feet*

Now, there's something for you. It's the new and improved, "Longer HDMI Cable".

Obviously it's not meant for everyone, but personally I already have too many cords going all over my house. And a girldfriend who hates having that crap all over,as well as all the time I spend on games in general.

Or if you like switching what you're streaming to frequently. Some nights I like to play on my living room TV, some nights that's not an option and I'd like to switch over to my laptop screen. Moving around a cord that's trailing through half your house isn't a very graceful solution.

I love it when something isn't relevent to some people so they assume it's totally useless. Personally, I'm very excited about this news and if I hear good things about latency I'll be sure to pick up a shield now.

So it's 250 bucks now eh?

I think I might be interested with NVS2 if they're making another. Probably going green next gpu purchase.

Probably an awesome emu machine by then.

Do you live in a little shack where all your stuff exists in one room? LOL

I don't know how people can be so dense about this...

If you're desperate why not take 5 minutes out and unplug the thing? It's not glued to the floor. I move my PC downstairs from time to time to use the big TV as opposed to my 24" monitor for watching movies etc.

Paying £300 for the luxury of laziness, to me just isn't a justifiable reason to own this thing.

I think I'm picking one up. There's a ton of indie platformers out there that I wouldn't mind playign on handheld while aroudn the house.
