That's because it's the best stuff. AMD CPUs don't operate in the same league as high end Intel CPUs. Current AMD GPUs and the drivers are second rate at best most of the time, being too loud, too hot and too buggy.

Tomb Raider 2013 says hi. NVIDIA haven't solved Dirt Showdown's performance issues.

High end Intel CPUs are nothing against low cost ARM Cortex A15. Intel Atom hasn't matched the cost of ARM Cortex A15.

In terms of cost (die size) and at the same 28nm process tech, AMD Jaguar rivals ARM Cortex A15.

Also, another option is, it could be possible they release new uber tech for gaming rigs and sucker more hermits into "the latest GPU or whatever" to justify why the PS4 will be so cheap - tho i doubt this because AMD has said the PS4 tech will be tops for a few years at least, or at least from a developer perspective and even then devs will stick to it as the standard.

AMD GCN 2.0 has the potential to change GCN rankings i.e. if PS4's GCN has 2.0 then it could have Radeon HD 7870 XT class performance.

Radeon HD 7870 XT is an entry level flagship class performance i.e. Tahiti LE GCN.

For performance, it depends on the GCN version. 7790 just has 12 CUs @ 1Ghz and 128bit bus GDDR5 @ 6000Mhz. PS4 has 18 CUs with unknown GCN version.
