NPD Oct 2012: 37% hardware sales decline, NBA, RE, and Pokemon takes the top.

Hardware sales dropped 37% while total retail spend dropped from $1 billion to $755.5 million.

There were a few exceptions to the decline trend.Skylanders: Giantssold over 160% more units than last yearsSkylanderstitle did in its debut month andNBA 2K12outsold last years game by 60%. Meanwhile,FIFA Soccer 13saw an increase of 13% as compared to its predecessor. However, these games alone werent enough to offset the decline of the retail console software market.

Sales of portable software, however, were up 37% as compared to last year, owing to the release ofPokémon Black/White 2.

4. Dishonored (460,200)
5. Pokemon White 2
6. Madden NFL 13

8. Medal of Honor: Warfighter

Other notes:

XCOM sold 114k (but Take-Two commented that it was a commercial success, so it probably did very well in digital sales)

The 360 sold 270k

Nothing else about Pokemon so far outside of the fact that portable software were up 37% higher compare to last year thanks to it.

The 360 captured 56 % of console marketshare and had more sales of software and accessories than Nintendo and sony combined...6 out of 10 top ten titles also ,,New ps3 slim am flopped confirmed

True. From what I've read, soccer is increasing in popularity. Not so much at the professional level, but little league's (or whatever the soccer equivalent is) are getting higher enrollments each and every year.

I personally can't watch it. It is boring as all hell, but playing it is fun and soccer games are actually pretty fun...even if I don't really care about the leagues.

I wonder what the difference in sales was between the PC version of XCOM, and the consoles.

I can see the game doing incredibly well on the PC, but not so much consoles.

I don't think I have revealed or shared any of my personal opinions on the series. If you don't feel the series copies heavily from its predecessor, more so than 95% of games, then that is fine by me. I think anyone who has played the games objectively can tell that the games feel like they could have been released 6 weeks after, not 2 years.

Actually it didn't bomb. The game came out in on the 28th, but NPD stopped tracking on the 27th. All theses sales are from street broken copies, so we won't know the real sales until December.

Without actually playing the game you can only go off of assumptions. Your case is stronger when you actually have the experience to back up your argument.
