Switch is kicking ass and taking names. You have to give Nintendo credit after the Wii U slip up.

With the Switch Lite and the upgrade battery life, Switch sales are gonna double those numbers, especially the cheapest version to be the more popular then the upgrade battery life but we'll see how this plays out.
I love my launch Switch, but then again, buying the upgrade battery life is very tempting to do. Hmmm.
No surprises... it's a great system with great games (and a bunch more on the way!).
Switch Lite is only going to help it gain momentum too.
isnt the switch just cell phone hardware anyway?
also PS4 and xbox one have been around for years longer, sales tend to decline after 5-6 years
Well the PS4 and Xbox have been around years longer so gamers already have them, so why is it even a surprise that Switch is selling more?

Nah. Switch is more like a souped-up Wii U with some 3DS mixed in. Plus, some of the games it runs are simply impossible to run on cell phones (and, trust me, this isn't for lack of trying).

Did you say something similar when the Switch outsold the PS4 lifetime in Japan? Oh wait, Japan doesn't matter since then, eh?
Since when do we compare sales of handhelds(switch) to consoles(PS4/Xbone)?
You guys understand that the switch is not a console right? It was always an oversized handheld/tablet that had the option to connect to a TV.
The damn thing even uses higher GB 3DS carts!
The switch lite is proof. Even Nintendo considers it a handheld because it has no TV option.
Sheep are so delusional that they think switch is a console. LMAO
PS4 won this gen. PS5 will win next gen.
Nintendo is officially out of the console race. They gave up after the Wii u failure. Wii u is their last console.

OMG, LOL!
Not really that impressive considering PS4 and Xbox One are on their way out.
What do we know about the PS5 at this point?
And all we know about the next Xbox is a bunch of buzz-words that meant nothing and a Halo teaser.
Hardly anything to be excited about, if I'm being honest.

Since the Switch has proven that it can play many of the same games? It's either a portable console, or PS4 and Xbone both got massively owned by a handheld that proved their processing power isn't that special or worth talking about. I'm going for the former, just to avoid the nightmare conversations the later would spawn.
Also, the Switch Lite is specifically called out by Nintendo as a variation intended for handheld play. If the Switch were just a handheld, Nintendo wouldn't need to create a version dedicated to handheld play. Doing so this early into the console's lifespan would be detrimental for Nintendo if it were just a handheld; it's pretty obvious Nintendo doesn't consider the Switch a handheld just from the fact they acknowledged they need a dedicated handheld (which is what the Switch Lite is).
And, yeah, even considering the Switch a console, PS4 won the console wars. When I post about percentages of gamers, I use the figures from before the end-of-life downcycle because of this.
I think most of us on this thread have pretty much acknowledged that it's only because of the PS4's end of life downturn that the Switch is selling more than the PS4. But even prior to that, the Switch was still beating the Xbone in sales.
But, despite the Switch being a console, Nintendo is definitely out of the console race. They're obviously not trying to compete with Sony; instead, they seem to be carving out a specific niche within the market and fortifying it. Also, in recent years, Nintendo has shown signs of being willing to work with Microsoft and the PC and Mobile markets. And Microsoft is possibly also leaving the race as well, given how willing they are to work with Nintendo and port exclusives to the PC.
So, it is quite possible the PS5 will win the race by virtue of being the only one trying to compete... while everyone else has apparently decided to start working together. It's going to be interesting to see how things develop.
