This outcome was expected. PS4 set to dominate again, even with an Xbone price cut. The upcoming months are going to be even better for the PS4 since it's actually getting games. Well deserved sales.

A PS4 price cut this year would be amazing.

I think MS will cut the price again by NOV if PS4 consistently pastes them again this whole year so yeah Sony might have to actually.

It's the start of a new year and Microsoft appears to be off to a fine start, as they have declared victory for the Xbox One in January. Microsoft's next-gen console continues to outsell the PlayStation 4, with Microsoft touting record January sales. The Xbox One's continued success is likely due in large part to the continued $349 promotion that was re-started for the latter half of the month.

There weren't a lot of new software contenders to shake up the top 10 this month, but there was one that was finally able to take Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare down a peg. Despite its best efforts to take down the zombie menace, Dying Light was able to topple Activision's monolith and send it to the #2 slot, as overall software sales doubled from January of last year. The rest of the Top 10 stands mostly pat, with Grand Theft Auto V, Super Smash Bros., and NBA 2K15 continuing to hang around. Check out the full Top 10 below.

Yep and worse since January 2014 sales of the xbox one were a total joke 143k the PS4 was supply constrained and sold 271k almost doubling MS in January 2014..hahahaa So they sold more than 143k this time and some how that is record breaking..hahaha

Hmm Xbox one took software over the PS4 though and we still don;t know the gap.

The price raised for 2 weeks and we still don't have the gap. if the gap is small then it's possible for MS to win this month. As we have to realize the price was up 14 days.

This gen is totally a wrap for the US, then. Annual fire sales will not have the same effect as software makers side more and more with the PS4 over MS.

I actually thought Microsoft would've won. But Sony can have January-August, always 100-200k consoles per month, which is nothing compared to September-November.

The gap in total world wide sales is getting bigger and bigger.

Well NPD shows they sold more software overall in january too, not that it matters, SW is about sales.

In a month where XBox was $399 for 2 weeks, and with a chart I'm ASSUMING is winning with Xbox one and PS4, it doesn't look like it's way ahead.

Assuming the chart is actually accurate, but i'm guessing Venture beat took it down for a reason.

Congrats Sony/ps4. I wonder how much the consoles actually sold though. If it was close or not.

Except for the part where Sony outsold MS in September+October too :P MS only won November+December last year. And yes, while each other month is quite smaller than either Nov or Dec, these things build up. For example, the gap before Nov+Dec was nearing up to 1 million (or slightly above) in NA. Right now it's at about ~700k (if I'm not mistaken), despite the sales differences in those 2 months.

Ignoring 10 out of 12 months of the year isn't really a sound strategy :P

Actually the gap was 1.2 million, and the current gap with what we know now is 480,000. Now all we need to do is figure out the number on the chart, or well, I'm sure whats it gaf and BY are working on it.

Yeah, but the next few months have strong exclusive releases for the PS4 in the US. Also, FF T0 will have a big effect not only in the US but possibly pull Asia into Gen8 territory. The road to E3 is looking bright for the PS4. Meanwhile, Xbone's holiday gas began and ended with November considering how close the two platforms were in December.

This isn't going to end well for the XBox. Like, not at all. PS4 is also starting to counter with bundle deals of its own in February. The Order is also something to watch out for.

But I think the difference will be smaller this year, in those months. I still think Microsoft will have surpassed Sony in overall sales at the end of 2015

I think above all MS needs to rethink it's distribution of major games. They have nothing to "compete" with The Order or Bloodborne for this quarter. Yet they have Forza 6 + Halo 5 + Quantum Break ( I think) + RIse of the Tomb Raider all for the same quarter. They could/should have tried to distribute those a bit more. Halo alone will guarantee them great sales in whatever quarter it may release.

Bloodborne will be Niche in the U.S. (Fable comes out same month i think anyway) i'm not saying these will do 0, but to act like they will do anything to marketed big huge AAA third-parties well. FF TO will not sell big, it's an old games that will do decent. I hgihly doubt for some reason that game is going to all of a sudden move tons of consoles. I think the X-X-2 collection will have had bigger sale.s

We need February for a clearer picture. Unless otherwise shown February will have uninterrupted Xbox One $349, along with Evolve and a few other trinkets. And depending on how big the gap is, like 150K+THEN we can say that until what, August, Xbox has no chance (I think Quantum is august.)

Right now there's still too much garbage in the way we can't see more than 3 feet ahead.

I expected the PS4 would win since they have that The Last of Us bunde, and the Xbox One's price went back up to $400 for half the month. I think PS4 will win February as well. Microsoft should have done an Evolve bundle at $350 since they already collaborated on marketing.
