Nintendo is doing their thing in 2019. And some folks think that with the current streaming trends, the Switch can continue to succeed during Xbox and Playstations "next gen"

But really, we all know why the Switch is doing so well. Pachter said it would fail.

7:38

"Nintendo is a backward looking company"

"Missing sales targets by a mile"

"Needs to drop to $199 to have a prayer"

"Nintendo is out to lunch. They do not have a strategy that works"

Switch is in its own category at this point and I think that's a good thing.

Every game on the system "can be played" on another more capable system. Just like consoles in general contribute to unnecessary redundant hardware, the Switch is not an exception just worse because its weaker hardware. Hardware like the Switch is only not redundant when its an extension to more capable hardware in the form of portable game purchases as in you buy once can play on the go or on a more capable system. Gaming as a whole is so backward in execution and gamers are too busy being fanboys to push for modernization of end user licenses.

@Pedro: There are games on the Switch that aren’t available anywhere else. And even if we are talking emulation, the Switch’s portability and controller functions still can’t be emulated. You’re wrong about the Switch in almost every way

Oh I see Pedro is still better about Nintendo hardware and software doing this well. Amusing.

Anyway, good on Nintendo for creating such an appealing bit of hardware backed by such a strong software ecosystem.

You missed my point and emulation conversations are not allowed. :P

This is not just a Switch issue but all consoles. The problem I have with consoles in general is that games are hardware locked to them despite the fact that the same games can run equally good or better on comparable systems. The worse case example of this is all these junk mini console hardware in which all of the games can effectively run on every available platform including phones but they are creating additional hardware just for those games. It makes no sense. I would be more open the success of this model (which has been going on for decades and its archaic nature is supported by fanboys) with a better licensing system, at least for the multi-platform games. I see the Switch as being an excellent extension of all the other systems in which the games you already own can be continued on the Switch. Instead we will have game streaming as the alternative.

Makes sense. A unique and portable console with all sorts of amazing games. Don't see why it wouldn't sell.

Nintendo is doomed! Doomed I tell ya! Well ok not that doomed. ?

Anyway it’s great to see Nintendo and the Switch continuing to do so well. I certainly love mine and the many games I have for it right now. There’s also a ton of great stuff coming out for the rest of this year that I want to get also.

@Archangel3371: they were having a pretty good sale the other day too on the E-shop. Big games down to cool indies. I grabbed Undertale, which I think is perfect for it

I'm not surprised Switch is doing so well... it's a great system with great games. I mean I'm playing my Switch more than my XB1 X nowadays... that's saying something.

@xantufrog: Yeah I saw that as well. I prefer getting physical copies of games though even if I have to pay more. Still though there were plenty of good deals to be had there.

Switch is easily my favorite system after the PS2. I use it way more than my PS4 and Xbone combined.

If the future is all streaming and services, then I hope Nintendo stays backwards thinking.

I hope its doing as well as nintendo wants it to do. Comparing it to the other aging consoles could be over analyzing things. Is it meeting nintendos targets on its own time is the question.

They'll hop right on that streaming wagon. Investors will prevent them from doing otherwise. I promise.

Their hardware might be a target for steaming services, as MS seems to be pushing gamepass for other hardware. If Gamepass is on PS5 and Switch, that would be a megaton.

The switch is one of the worst systems ever and it’s sales are only going to slow down. People in real life do notice the massive game droughts Nintendo systems get.

E3 just passed and Nintendo confirmed no games for the next year.

Why would people still buy this thing?

The 4K twins are far more redundant. They are literally the same thing twice, with maybe one or two exclusives a year to make the difference. That's why xbox one failed so hard this gen.

Every switch game is portable, instant difference right there.

They are redundant to who? A person who already owns one of the two? To a person who games primarily on the PC? To a person who has no interest in portability? Every multi-platform game is the worse version on the Switch at the same price.

The consumer doesn't care about graphics. I mean how many generations of the best graphics being the loser is it going to take for that to sink in?

Consumers do care about graphics. The PS4 is the top selling console and was the most powerful console for the first three years.

The PS4 is the least powerful of the 4K twins now and explain to me why then the 3DS, Wii, and Switch are such hits if graphics matter so much. PS4 won based on its price compared to the xbox one.

or why the biggest games on PC are DOTA, LOL, and counterstrike and isometric angles where the graphics are not impressive at all.

Is that because consumers care about graphics so much? Looks like the complete opposite.
