No new Assassins Creed game coming in 2019.

'There will be no new Assassin's Creed game released in 2019, publisher Ubisoft has confirmed.

Ubisoft boss Yves Guillmot confirmed the news today at Gamescom 2018, Gamespot reported.

It comes after 2017's Origins was praised for reinventing the series after taking a unique yearly break in the formerly annual franchise.

This year's Assassin's Creed Odyssey has picked up criticism for launching just a year after Origins - even though it is the work of an entirely separate team on their own lengthy development cycle, and despite the changes it has added to complete the series' promising transition into a full-blown RPG.

"We had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin's next year," Guillemot said. "It's just because the team was working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you're not going to have a fully-fledged one."'

The last year off lead to Origins which was great so this is good to hear!

Because there will be watch dogs 3 as its modern day Assassins creed. and far cry 6 aka assassins creed FPS edition.

Seems yearly games are almost dead.

skipping one year is also yearly. good games need longer development time. you cant just release sequel after 2 year later. it need atleast 3 or 4 years otherwise developers will reuse same assets on the sequel.

They just said fully fledged one. Could mean they will do a spin off or something.

Well, it worked out for Origins, right? Took a year of, came out with with a critically-acclaimed new game that sold by the bucketloads. Might as well repeat.

Pretty sure that's a given.

@ghosts4ever: I don't care for the series at all, but since this one is set in Greece i'm in. The only other Ubi game i care is Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Cool! I really had fun with the first game but the second was lackluster. Hopefully they go back to what made the first Watch_Dogs game unique fun :)

If the world was also populated by NPC's and you had to blend in ass the assassins... It could be pretty cool.

I finally hope we get a new Splinter Cell game in 2019 we haven't had one in 5 years and that was still a last gen title.

Seriously though, AC:O sucked. If more time will make the series better, I'm all for it. Didn't work for Origins though.

People have different opinions on different games I guess.

@boycie: Indeed. Some people would call the next FIFA or Madden "fresh", whereas I see the same game with some minor changes. It's kind of the same with AC:O for me. I just didn't see what others did.

I wouldn't call a complete new environment the beautifully rendered Egypt a minor change to be honest.

BTW why Ubisoft doesn't make any new Driver game ? The last one was pretty successful from what I've heard.

@boycie: I would. Felt largely like the same game with a new skin basically. The game looks great though, I agree about that.

Game play and mechanics were decent and a vast improvement. Somehow they went back to AC1 with the repetitive bullshit objectives though...

Well I suppose sequel are always going to feel similar to there predecessors to a certain extent as changing to much would alienate the core audience. Imagine if for Dark Souls 3 they decided to really mix things up just to please those that didn't really like the games anyway. Prety sure the fans world have a spasm.

Anyway, AC will have to change a lot to get me interested again. I wad bored with their AC formula half way through AC2.

AC release every year. other games doesnot.

Even if Doom release eveery year and become yearly iteration. i will start hating it too.

You don't have to buy it every year though. I love the F1 game and one comes out every year but I only buy one every 3 or 4 years as not that much changes.

It ruined the series. F1 is sport game so it make sense for it.

if any other game become yearly iteration it become bad. good game need long development cycle and good sequel need new engine instead of reusing same assets. i like what id software is doing with Doom Eternal. new engine.

good games always end in trilogy and not start milked over and over again.

Always weird when these yearly franchises skip a year. Kinda upsets me because I'm expecting it, and I'm dumb enough to buy them everytime.

As an assassin's creed fan I'm happy with this news.

AC: Origins released after they skipped a year and the game was absolutely fantastic.

Now AC: Oddysey releases a year later and it looks like a glorified expansion pack.

And they all battle to see who is the last one standing...

Call it Assassin Royal!
