Cause they might be enjoyable? Is this really surprising? Why would you purchase products from the competition?

So in trade of a product you might actually enjoy, you're going to stick with brand loyalty? If I was the owner of a company, I wouldn't buy my competitors products either.

[QUOTE="thelastguy"]Cause they might be enjoyable? this makes no business sense what so ever. What are consumers going to think when an owner of a company is using a product from a direct competitor? Is this really surprising? Why would you purchase products from the competition?

Sure, unless you're spoiled ungreatful brat that would rather publicly humiliate his father than survive without ipod
Microsoft doesn't really see itself as competing against the iPhone (yet, at least)... the iPhone's pretty clearly a consumer device, while most WinMo phones are business devices.MakariI don't know about that. WinMo phones have been quite popular lately among consumers (just not in US, but everywhere else in Iphone is far from dominating smartphone markets) and they will only grow there. Plus 6.5 is aimed at expanding the system towards more cosumer oriented customers even more

I was just at Microsoft's campus in Mountain View today at a meeting, and our MS speaker whipped out his iphone and talked about how much he likes it at one point.[QUOTE="Makari"]Microsoft doesn't really see itself as competing against the iPhone (yet, at least)... the iPhone's pretty clearly a consumer device, while most WinMo phones are business devices.AdrianWerner

It is a pretty awesome smartphone and works well with Exchange..
All I can say is I love my 80GB Ipod.TheGreatOutdoori love my 16gb ipod touch but the battery is garbage
Bill Gates - Hey son I bought you a new Ipod to replace your Zune.
Little Boy Gates - Thanks dad! I always wanted one and that Zune kind of sucked.
Bill Gates - Oh son wanna see daddy's new Iphone? It has MS word on it.
What a perfect world this would be.
interesting, i kind of knew that but still. so does that mean he doesn't use any products of sony? sony tv, sony stereo, DVD player, blue ray. what if his son wants to play little big planet or killzone 2? iam2greenIt's hardly a rare thing for families which make their living in one line of work to shun the competition. Why should Gates' family be any different? Besides, since when does being a good parent consist in giving your kid everything they want? If a kid wants to play LBP and can't... Tough. Besides, Sony has done more to keep LBP out of the hands of kids around the world than MS ever could, with their pricing strategy...

If I owned a company & my product has a competitor, I would buy my competitor's product & see what they have done right & wrong. Making improvements & adjustments on my own product to make it better. I mean it's a business, it's competition. If you're gonna have a one track mind & be "brand loyal" & not see what the other competitor's product has to offer then you shouldn't be in this business. As far as what Bill Gates is doing is fine within his judgement. He just doesn't want anyone in his family to use an iPod or the iPhone. I'm sure he's got one somewhere & he's anaylzing & trying to make improvements of his own future toys.
