Some of you will think , what's wrong with this guy. Lost his marbles? No such thing, when you look at nintendo's history it's only obvious what is going to happen.

It has already been 15 years ago since nintendo released a console that competed with the other systems in terms of hardware. With the coming of the x360 and ps3, nintendo knew this was a battle they couldn't win. Sony and microsoft were investing huge amounts of money, even selling their systems with a loss to bind customers to thier plafform.

Nintendo couldn't or wasn't willing to risk that and ended up doing a wii and it was a very smart business move. But why the wii u? a weaker cpu than the already dated x360. That tablet? What where they thinking?

Nintendo isn't that stupid , they did this on purpose. They only released the wii u to soften up sony and microsoft so that they would release weaker consoles. A lot of people think nintendo is not smart enough business wise to pull this off but you couldn't be more wrong.

Nintendo pretty much invented the term exlusive (for third parties) back in the eighties. They let devs sign contracts to only develop for their platform. These were very agressive contracts pretty much binding devs for years to their platform. IT is something they could pull off , because they had the most popular console with the nes and they also had the resources to fund upcoming devs.

Their agressive business strategy backlashed with sony. When nintendo was negotiating with sony for the implementation of sony's cd-rom into the n64, sony didn't agree with nintendo's terms and ended up making their own console, the playstation. The rest is history.

History that nintendo hasn't forgotten, nintendo is still a big player in the market and sony and microsoft are sitting ducks. Imagine how easy it is now to release a console for 500$ that will almost double the power of the ps4. Not only that there are no games that use this kind of power, not even on the pc.

Please do tell from your experience in R&D. Ultimately it doesn't matter how powerful it is, Nintendo has had awful third party support since the SNES, what indication is there that's gonna change?

Power has been the driving force for console sales since forever.

The wii u has hardly any third party support because the system is not strong enough. The cpu in there is weaker than the x360.

Just look at hardware prices and you will know how easy it is to build a 500$ console that's almost double the power of the ps4.

No its bad enough half the industry is obsessed with detailing realistic snowflakes and foot prints in the muck that are a mirror image of the bottom of my shoe. Weve got open worlds and 1080p 60fps, leave it be for now and focus on gameplay.

The only thing Nintendo is going to crush is the fools who buy their next console, just like the crushed the fools who bought their last one.

Nintendo doesn't have third party support because the games don't sell on the console.

Even if they did sell the hard part was making the game fly on the Wii U hardware. It was complicated compared to the twins. If NX adopts the x86 architecture, then I don't see a issue with 3rd party ports happening. It would be way easier.

OT I think that Nintendo has a great shot with NX. Assuming they embrace what made the twins good, which is bending over for 3rd parties and making a online infrastructure that the fans cry over.

False for 3 generations in a row.

Gen 5 - PS was not the most powerful

Gen 6 - PS2 was not the most powerful

Gen 7 - Wii was not the most powerful

This is the first gen since SNES/Genisis where that hasn't been true, and even in those days the argument of most powerful console was irrelevant.

Hey I don't want to see Nintendo fail. I hope they do turn it around. But since the GC era one of the knocks for third parties was their games don't sell very well on the console. The Wii did sell casual games....yes. But I'm more talking core games. I don't blame Nintendo for that but the fan base. Though it's hard to argue against getting a better experience on one of the other two consoles.

If Nintendo gets more competitive they might get some early extras. Who knows.

The playstation was more powerfull because of the cd-rom. The n64 had a slighty better cpu and gpu but that didn't matter , the advantage of having a much bigger data carrier was a bigger factor.

The ps2 was only the most successfull because the it released the first and also because it made so much fans with the ps1.

The wii wasn't aiming for the same market.

I think you're also neglecting the DVD playback for the PS2. The fact that it was a really cheap DVD player was a big factor. It was why it was insisted that the Blu Ray be installed in the PS3.

I think they(Nintendo) need to join us in modern times. The hardware, online, and lack of 3rd party support is what makes it a terrible platform. How many games have Nintendo released this year? Having 3rd party support would help fill a massive void.

I think Nintendo could do it, they are smart with their business tactics. If anyone can build a powerful affordable console it would be Nintendo, look at the Gamecube, how they pull that off still to this day amazes me.

The Nintendo/Sony deal went south cause Sony took full control of the rights on the platform, they snuck it into the deal that Nintendo signed. So if Nintendo had made the system Sony would have had all the rights. Nintendo got mad from this shady deal and decided to make their own and get Phillips to make the CD. Sony is evil and Nintendo would like nothing more the to put them in the ground. With the help of Samsung, Nintendo can achieve this, Samsung helped with the Wii :) :)

But they didnt help with the Wii U, Samsung, why have forsaken us? Please help us destroy Sony, we need yall in the console race. Nintendo kicked Sony out of Japan, now its Samsungs turn to kick them out the game. Samsung will reap all the rewards, and Nintendo will finally get the revenge they deserve.

Game On.

Microsoft and Sony offered the best hardware they could without taking a loss, Sony was never going to needlessly lose 300$ per console like they did with PS3. Nintendo could only do the same and APUs really haven't advanced enough that blow the PS4/Xbone out of the water.

Without a real reason to buy a Nintendo console like the Wii had I don't think it will stand a chance against Sony or Microsoft like N64, Gamecube and WiiU.

Sony might be gone in the future so some might spin it and say Nintendo wiped them off.

Mmkay, so they released a weak as shit system that flies in the face of what 3rd parties want, harms consumer confidence in the brand, and causes the company to take the first losses in its 100+ year history on premise of some flimsy assumption that Sony and Microsoft will come out with a weaker system down the road? It's nonsense.

It's near impossible for Nintendo to fail, even as a game focused company. They could leave the console market and still be incredibly rich, just from the games they have. Can you imagine if they outsourced Pokemon, Zelda, metroid, or Mario? Just one of these appearing on the handheld market (imagine on iPhone and iPad) would net them millions easily. And that's IF they weren't to adopt a free to play model (simply imagine the revenue from releasing a free Pokemon; the sheer revenue from ad space would be mind bogling.) Behind Microsoft, Nintendo is the most financially secure of the bunch.

This.

Forget about Nintendo having to win over the majority market share of console gamers that are playing on PS4/Xbone right now, going into NX they're gonna have a harder time than ever at just winning back Wii-U owners and Nintendo fanboys in general (the ones that aren't complete sheep) given they're recent track record and the horribly mismanaged Wii-U. Its gonna be a big up hill battle for them here on out, especially mid-gen.

Unfortunately for you, you're not the second coming of Nastradamus.

While I do hope the NX is successful, and is not underpowered again, as has good third party support, saying things like "Nintendo will crush Sony and Microsoft " is kind of a foolish thing to say, no offense.

Like I said , don't get me wrong, I really do hope Nintendo is much more successful this time with NX. It would be good for gaming all around and make system wars more interesting and perhaps more sheep will be here next gen.

SW is rather boring this gen when it's basicaly just lems and cows arguing back and forth and hermits occasionally butting in to remind people of their superiority. More Sheep in SW next gen would help balance things out and make SW more entertaining imo.

My facts are straighter than yours.

They didn't agree. Nintendo only went to philips because they couldn't find an agreement with sony, but after that they started working together again and then they disagreed again.

Since nintendo was making the console they were making the terms and sony didn't agree and went on and made their own console.

@commander Everything you just said in response was wrong.

1. The PS1 was not more powerful than the N64.

2. The PS2 was successful to begin with because it was a good, cheap, DVD player at a time when DVD players were overpriced.

Get your facts straight.

Nintendo droped Sony for Philips , And Sony out of spite made the PS.

The same with Xbox.MS went to Sony to help with the PS2 and Sony droped them. And MS out of spite made the Xbox.

Didn't MS want to buy SEGA?

Please do tell from your experience in R&D. Ultimately it doesn't matter how powerful it is, Nintendo has had awful third party support since the SNES, what indication is there that's gonna change?

Power has been the driving force for console sales since forever.

As proved by the wii and ps2, am i rite?

My facts are straighter than yours.

They didn't agree. Nintendo only went to philips because they couldn't find an agreement with sony, but after that they started working together again and then they disagreed again.

Since nintendo was making the console they were making the terms and sony didn't agree and went on and made their own console.

Not true. They were set to announce the device when Nintendo announced a deal with Phillips without telling Sony. They had and agreement that Nintendo decided they didn't like as Sony would make money from the games.

Well according to this.....By March 31, 2002, Sega had five consecutive fiscal years of net losses. To help with Sega's debt, CSK founder Isao Okawa, before his death in 2001, gave the company a $692 million private donation, and talked to Microsoft about a sale or merger with their Xbox division, but those talks failed.

From Wiki.....it is footnoted.

Stopped reading here. This is an absurd claim. Nintendo is not going to pour resources into a console just so they can "soften up" their competition.

Man , Sonic and every Sega game exclusive to the Xbox.

I think it would have made the Xbox more appealing.

Nintendo do what Nintendo do. They dance to their own tune and no one else's, got to respect them for that.

I don't believe that it's their gaming (pun intended) Sony or Microsoft into anything and the PS4/Xbox One hardware was locked in long before either of them new what was inside a Wii U.
