With characters like Pac-Man, Cloud, Megaman, Bayonetta, and Ryu appearing the 3DS/WiiU game, how many famous third-parties that have yet to make an appearance?

Crash Bandicoot, Simon Belmont, and Earthworm Jim immediately come to mind as 3rd party characters that would be great in Smash Bros. and have never been included yet.

Obviously not a confirmation of anything but worth pointing out that “new” modifies “title.” The ambiguity originates from what you personally infer “title” to mean, and if it was going to be a new “game,” why not use that term instead?

My expectation is for SSBS to be a blend of remade content from Wii U and 3DS, but will be akin mechanically. So it’ll be half and half, basically.

Was clear as day during the announcement trailer.

I'm hoping to see RE Remake's Chris and Jill given that the game was Nintendo exclusive for 12 years.

Not sure if that era of RE is that over the top enough to really fit in something as frantic as Smash. I mean, Smash has NEVER represented Eternal Darkness (from the same era of survival horror) either, and that's their own IP.

You're grasping. It's a new game. It'll likely use the same engine, but it's a new game. Title = game, and they don't refer to ports as new titles. Just stop. This is the dumbest argument I've seen yet. They always refer to games as titles/software titles in documents like this. It's how they do it, and it's consistent. I'm not buying that this is a confirmation of anything. I'm in the "SSB Switch is a new game" camp for many reasons, but this doesn't really go any further to confirm it than any information we've gotten before, I'm afraid.

It says that it's a new game. Literally says that with no ambiguity unless you're a straw-grasping idiot who doesn't realize that a large corporation may use slightly different wording than people on forums. They called it a new title. Title = game. Therefore, they called it a new game. What do they have to say for it to count as a confirmation to you people?

It'll be the same copy/paste Smash game they've been making for years except with a few new characters. Fighting games are about as "new" as sports games.

While I enjoyed Smash 4, I still think the series hasn't quite reached the glory of Melee. If a new game can inch the series more in that direction, that would be great.

3DS SSB is too old, while the Wii U flopped. It's a good thing it's a sequel not a port

i have to agree.

look at street fighter 2 to 3 to 4 to 5....basically the same game with the same moves(slight changes, new characters) and different artstyles.

mortal kombat 1 and 2...are like clones. 3 added running and combos. mortal kombat 9 and X are clones

i could go on and on... tekken, soul aclibur, marvel vs capcom...

there is only so much you can do in a fighting game. same as racing games.

like call of duty modern warefare 1, 2 and 3

shooters(in multiplayer) are another genre besides, racing and fighters where each iteration is similar.

Recently, they have made three mayor new IPs:

• Xenoblade Chronicles
• Splatoon
• Arms

Didn't include other recent new IPs like Rhythm Heaven, Pushmo, or BoxBoy! (even though they're dope) because narrow-minded people predictably classify them as "casual trash".

If Nintendo can't come up with something newer to SSB series, then I'll gladly take a SSB remake collection from the N64 to the Wii U please.

The span between Melee (2001) and Brawl (2008) is about seven years, while between Brawl (2008) and the 3DS/WiiU (2014) versions is around six years. If the Switch version is a new entry and not a port or even an enhanced port like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it would be about four years since the 3DS/WiiU versions were released. While short in recent times, but the span between the original Super Smash Bros. (1999) and Melee (2001) was about two years.

We may have to see at E3 or before whether the Switch game is an original title or a port of an existing Smash game.
