Pikmin 4 is in development and "very close to completion", Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has exclusively confirmed to Eurogamer.

Speaking during an interview held back in July, Nintendo's top designer revealed that work on a fourth major Pikmin game was well underway.

"It's actually very close to completion," Miyamoto said. "Pikmin teams are always working on the next one."

Nintendo then confirmed the news to Eurogamer in a separate statement:

"We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present."

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...-to-completion

First off, awesome, I have only ever played Pikmin 3, but I did like that, and from what I understand, it was the weakest one. So I can't wait to see what the series is like on a good day.

Secondly, chalk up another one for the NX, I think?

Instantly becomes my most anticipated game, even more so than Persona 5. I love Pikmin that much.

As long as it's on the WiiU or NX though. I'll still be very excited for a 3DS version, but it wouldn't be my most anticipated game over P5.

Honestly, I don't think 3DS would be able to handle it.

That said, now that I think about it, maybe it is a mobile game? Pikmin would work very well on mobile.

New 3DS please. The 3DS deserves more love and shall always be the dominate handheld on the market.

Actually, I believe he said he was interested in doing it, but that their focus back then was on Pikmin 3.

I just think that for a CPU intensive franchise like Pikmin, 3DS is a pretty damn terrible idea.

Why not? If they downtone the graphics, it could certainly handle a pikmin game.

Not just about graphics, Pikmin is very CPU intensive, and I don't think 3DS's CPU, even the New 3DS CPU, meets the mark.

Miyamoto stated that he did 2 prototypes Pikmin for DS and 3DS but he didn't felt it was a true Pikmin on a handheld so that idea got canned. That said, I hope he would at least change his mind.

Nintendo once again working on IPs I have no interest in. First Star Fox and now this. Where is are the console Metroids, Fire Emblems and Pokemons? And no, I don't count those spinoffs that are outsourced.

Had to give them a rest, they were starting to burn out and sell worst. For as much as those games cost to produce, it wouldnt have been wise to risk the less then stellar sales.

I wish I liked Pikmin more. I always start off enthusiastic and I get into it.... then i just stop, and never play it again. On Pikmin 3, i couldnt tell you where i was but i played it for a couple days straight.... for some reason, i just never pick it back up. Such a cool idea, but it just wanes thin....

If it was a mobile game they definitely wouldn't refer to it as Pikmin 4 so I think that can be ruled out. No way they would release a mobile game as a main entry in the series.

@mesome713: The game really comes in to its own when you attempt speed runs and go for the high scores in the challenge mode. The added multi tasking mechanics in this 3rd installment really pushed it to being one of the smartest games Nintendo has ever developed and among the very best game released this generation.

Mastering the "Go Here' function and allocating pikmin to certain tasks is a must.

All console Pokemon games have been spin-offs. A Metroid game will most likely be released in the next 3 years and the dying Fire Emblem franchise has finally found its audience on handhelds.

Yeah i agree, this is my favorite Pikmin with the multi-tasking. I like separating my dudes into different groups and getting things done faster, it took me awhile, but im getting good at it. Ill have to try some speed running, i think im comfortable enough to go at it now.

Exactly. And Fire Emblem only found it's audience because Awakening was good. It'll die if you put out crappy games like Radiant Dawn.

Awakening found its audience because they found a more "mainstream" appealing style and injected a bit more production values in its presentation.

It was also marketed better that RD.

Weird to not announce a platform... NX for sure.

Yeah I don't want Pikmin gimped for 3DS.

On the other hand Pikmin would suit the system perfectly when it comes to buttons and touchscreen, so perhaps for the 3DS successor.

I loved Pikmin 3, so they have my attention. Hopefully it's a Wii U game though, sure they can pull a 3DS game off it just won't be the same, just how like Hyrule Warriors on 3DS just won't be the same. If on NX then **** you Nintendo!!.

sweet.

i hope they drop the overall time limit (even the relatively loose one for pikmin 3).

pikmin 2 is still the best in the series but pikmin 3 was also pretty darn good.

as for platforms: either the wiiu or nintendos next handheld would make sense. the 3DS wouldnt be up to the task really and the screens are too small. in pikmin screen real estate can be an issue. if the next handheld has a 5" screen it should be fine though.

I only played the first one on the GC. I wanted to try Pikmin3 but can't find it anywhere so. This one may come up on the WiiU or the NX. Pikmin never been on the handheld and I think the only way to make it works is on the N3ds and by downing the graphics a lot and having more limit like less pikmin can be on the field and of course shorter objectives and levels.

Hmmmm, cool?

Pikmin 3 had its ups and downs for me, but was the only Pikmin game I've ever played. I'd say I wasn't that into the boss fights. But the art style was terrific, and I liked the general mood the game presented.

Interesting. I thought they might have held off making another as it is not exactly a cash-cow as far as Nintendo franchises are concerned. I hope it's a Wii U release as it will give us Wii U owners another quality title to play. After all, a new Pikmin title is not going to do much to push the NX sales-wise.

I've still to play 3. Good series, though very far down my list of preferred Nintendo games.

I wonder what new things they have planned for 4, if any. (I heard from a friend that 3 was great fun but basically the same as 1 and 2)

My Gamepad is ready.

Gamepad?

Nuh uh! I'm using my nunchuck on this baby! :D

I mean...I hope...please...Nintendo?

Wiimote + Nunchuck = the best way to play Pikmin.

The gamepad with patched in touch controls worked better in terms of accuracy. At least for me.

I've still to play 3. Good series, though very far down my list of preferred Nintendo games.

I wonder what new things they have planned for 4, if any. (I heard from a friend that 3 was great fun but basically the same as 1 and 2)

I really liked 3, though it was my first Pikmin game, so take that as you will.

I have no doubt it's great, my only fear is that, like most WiiU games I've played, it won't stand out from previous entries in the series, at all.

I'll play it at some point.

Come on man, Smash 4 and Kart 8 stood out from other games in their series, I am pretty sure of that :p
