Sony’s Secret Studio in San Diego Recruits Former Naughty Dog Artis

"Sony’s Visual Arts Development Studio–the “secret” San Diego team believed to be working on a new Uncharted entry–recently attracted new talent. Apparently, the recruit is Zak Oliver, a former Environment Artist for Naughty Dog who worked on the studio’s last four projects, including The Last of Us Part II. According to Oliver’s newly updated LinkedIn page, he left Naughty Dog in June and soon thereafter joined the San Diego team in question as a Senior Environment Artist.

Oliver’s hiring seems to add more fuel to the rumors that suggest the San Diego studio is hard at work on another Uncharted project. While there exists no undeniable proof that Uncharted counts as the team’s first game, there’s plenty to suggest it will serve as another narrative-focused adventure for Sony’s catalogue. This most notably holds true given a job listing from late 2018, wherein Sony sought out a Lead Character Artist in San Diego for the “next chapter of cinematic storytelling.”

Word about this not-so-secretive studio first began making the rounds in April 2018. This information also entered public consciousness thanks to a job listing posted by the publisher. At the time, it was merely known that Sony was in search of a Gameplay Engineer for a team created alongside the Visual Arts Service Group (VASG). In particular, VASG’s specialty is in animation and motion capture. The crew has most notably taken part in the production of exclusives like Death Stranding, God of War, and Uncharted.

Regardless I honestly could care less, the uncharted games are extremely average games imo.

Please noooooooooooo. I'm so sick and tired of seeing and hearing about this god damn franchise. GO AWAY. Its just like AssCreed, they need to bury these two and forget they ever existed.

Why i don't simply ignore it? Because this game is normally the biggest game for whichever year it comes out. Instead of something proper, it will be Uncharted, and you know damn well they won't be releasing multiple high profile games in a row. This series pollutes the Sony library.

Uncharted 5 by a new Sony studio rumor has been around about 18 months or so now. We'll see what happens but I'm not holding my breathe.

Well hope they are not the same ones that killed the story in TLOU2 .

That definitely confirms it to be Uncharted because if it was any other game they would have hired a 'gameplay' designer.

I hope it's a direct sequel to 4.

From what lens say, every sony game is a movie, they could be making twisted metal.

I'm ready for a new franchise. Let Uncharted stay retired for a bit. Especially since 4 was my least favorite in the series. I loved 1-3, but 4 just felt off to me.

That would seem like an interesting idea, having another Sony studio do Uncharted games. It's too successful not to keep making games for, but it kind of limits Naughty Dog from ever trying to do anything new, and this would certainly free them up to try starting another IP for Sony.
