New 3DS: only in white, 20 face plates availalble. $219.95AU
New 3DS XL : Metallic Blue and Black. $249.95AU.
Charger: $14.95AU

Prices, as promised, are the same as the older 3DS models that these are phasing out.

... and now I am really confused about Nintendo's rollout plan for this model.

Wow, released outside Japan quicker than I though. Maybe Nintendo noticed a dip in 3DS sales ever since its announcement, as if people would hold off getting a 3DS until New 3DS models are available; if so I so called it.

Anyhow, good to see prices matching out 3DS and XL prices. I hope it's not much longer until North American release.

So the XL doesn't have changeable faceplates?

If Australia received the New 3DS in November, then there is a chance that the major markets (Europe and North America) will receive theirs by the end of this year. That of course depends on how well the 3DS is selling in those markets.

To be honest, I reckon they're basing their release schedule on the amount of stock they have. They've probably almost cleared out stock in Aus/NZ, so they can sell the new version. Whereas in the rest of the world (bar Japan), they still have stock to get through (and they can give their current supply a paint job to entice consumers (e.g NES 3DS)).

I was all excited to get the Smash XL, then the New XL got announced. Im waiting for the latter now.

I hope they come out in the States this year. I should start listing my original 3DS model for sale sooner rather than later to get the most I can out of it.

Smart too, the limited edition 3DS designs I'm sure will be a thing of the past with the new removable face plates.

Good to hear. This should hopefully mean it should get released across other territories sooner rather than later. I was looking to purchase the 3DS but, I'm glad I did not because of the New 3DS.

Definitely waiting then. I was going to pick up a 3DSXL so I could play the Pokemon games with my little brothers whom already have a 3DS, but why would I pay 200 for one and then the new one comes out in a month or 2 for the same price? They need to release the U.S. release date before I lose interest imo.

Nope, they'll sell limited edition XL systems instead of faceplates.

Too bad Nintendo did not choose to demo this in Canada first like they did with the Wii Mini, especially since the Wii Mini sold well enough up here to warrant being introduced elsewhere.

More surprising, however, is there retention of the "New 3DS" name for this latest iteration as I personally think it will cause confusion. Perhaps Nintendo will change the name (3DS+, perhaps?) should it perform poorly in the Australasian market.
