Poll: Need For Speed: Heat or Garfield Kart: Furious Racing - Which racing game will be more relevant for XB1/PS4/PC? (23 votes)

Need For Speed: Heat 35%
Garfield Kart: Furious Racing 65%

Dear racers on the System Wars board!

Time for more apple to orange questions!

This month, there are 2 different arcade racers coming out onto the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC!

  • Developer: Ghost Games
  • Publisher: EA
  • Sub-Genre: Arcade Street Racing
  • Platforms: Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC
  • Release Date: November 8th, 2019
  • Developer: Artefacts Studios
  • Publisher: Microids
  • Sub-Genre: Kart Racing
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC
  • Release Date: November 21st, 2019

So which one you reckon it will be more relevant for this month's XB1/PS4/PC's library of racing games?

P.S I vote for Need For Speed: Heat while leaving Garfield Kart: Furious Racing in the dust!

Weird, I didn't think Garfield was still around. That's the first time I'm hearing about Garfield Kart game being made and release soon. I played just about all Need for Speed games but looking at Garfield Kart gameplay looks more enjoyable fun. If I have time, I'll give it a try. I grew up with the cartoon show, so I'll go for Garfield over NFS.

I liked it better when I didn't know about Garfield Kart's existence.

So, obviously NFS Heat.

Ghost is a good developer. I liked their previous entries. New NFS looks good as well, but Forza Horizon and Grid are keeping me busy for now.

I wish Forza Horizon had GRID ai and I wish GRID wouldn't always let me start at position 16/16. "Here are two laps to gain 15 positions..." Uh, yeah sure

Garfield looks OK :p

Strangely enough, neither looks particularly great.... Garfield looks painful though.

Need For Speed has been irrelevant since the PS2 days.

I think they might have had 1 decent PS3/360 game, but even then it still sucked.

Used to be AAA series on PS2.

Not sure what happened at EA when they went to the next gen and started making crap. They managed to kill NFS and Burnout at the same time.

The quality of topics has seriously gone down here within the last few months. Wave after wave of dumb kart racing vs sim/arcade racing threads. It's so terrible. I'm thinking about leaving SW forever. Thanks MclarenMaster18.

On topic: who gives a f*** about NFS or Garfield. Seriously.

Okay, go have fun with Garfield Kart since you have nostalgia on Garfield cartoon shows.

For Garfield Kart, I've first heard of it in one of my last year's thread where a user mentioned it.

Also, the original game of Garfield Kart on Mobile/PC (2013) & 3DS (2015) didn't receive well in reviews, but at least the framerate and performance optimization is much better than Modnation Racers on PS Vita.

Um, how is Need For Speed irrelevant on PS2/Xbox era?

I heard the games received good reviews as the fanbase had a lot of fun playing it so you get owned by me again!

C'mon now Ghost games are an average developer and their NFS games prove it.

NFS Rivals, Payback & Reboot are average games, some would even say crap games, either would be right lol.

This new one looks it will be the same as the others, seriously though its time Dice had a go.

Then if you're not happy make your own and stop crying. Also SW had quality topics, now that's what I call trolling LOL.

@i_p_daily: No, I can't agree. The racing itself in the last few NFS games has been absolutely fantastic. They dropped the ball in other aspects, but the driving was spot-on for an arcade racer.

I don't think DICE could do a better job, they are an FPS studio. EA had Bioware make a destiny-clone and fail at it, because Bioware was forced to make something they aren't good at.

Haven't really played a NFS since Most Wanted (2012). And that game was way worse than Most Wanted (2005). All NFS games afterwards have looked average to me, and received average scores, so I didn't bother.

Looked at some gameplay vids of this one, and it looks pretty solid. Gonna keep an eye on it. Pretty busy with Wreckfest at the moment though.

I agreed with that, for NFS Most Wanted (2012) most parts in single-player mode is so easy for and the way to progress through the game is to complete events for each car, win parts and defeat the most wanted racers.

Unlike in Most Wanted 2005, players progress through the campaign is to win races, earn respect, defeating blacklists, and become more notorious will allow them to purchase higher tier cars.

Wouldn't say I'll do it because of nostalgic, just the fact NFS series hasn't been that good since Underground 2 and afterwards, I was left with disappointments. Garfield just happens to make the obvious choice.

I was first introduced to them with Rallisport Challenge and then Rallisport Challenge 2 on the original Xbox, and they are arcade rally games and they're awesome :)

They scored in the 90's both here and at IGN, Gamespot must have had competent reviewers back in the day.

The whole list of racing/driving games developed by DICE following are:

  1. S40 Racing (1997)
  2. Motorhead (1998)
  3. Swedish Touring Car Championship (1999)
  4. Michelin Rally Masters: Race of Champions (2000)
  5. Swedish Touring Car Championship 2 (2000)
  6. V8 Challenge (2002) - (Reskinned Swedish Touring Car Championship but featuring Australian touring cars instead)
  7. Rallisport Challenge (2002) - (Spiritual successor to Michelin Rally Masters: Race of Champions)
  8. Midtown Madness 3 (2003)
  9. Rallisport Challenge 2 (2004)
  10. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) - Collaborated with Criterion Games.

Yep Forza Horizon 4 still looks more fun than NFS Heat IMO.

Same goes that I much more prefer Test Drive Unlimited 2 over Burnout Paradise.

Well you learned some new gaming history today :)

I don't know if all the team who created Rallisport Challenge is still there, its doubtful but there would be plenty of them still there.

Ghost Games have had their chance with the last 3 NFS games and have only made average racers.

EA need to give it to Dice, which gets them out of Battlefield for awhile and back to their roots.

It would be great if Burnout 3 and Revenge gets the remake for next-gen.

I would personally choose Burnout (Arcade Street Racer) over any kart racers.

Lolz kart racing fans are so mad that the fact that arcade street racing and sim racing are much more popular than kart racing when it comes to Xbox and Playstation's library of driving games.

So that's they came to vote for Garfield Kart: Furious Racing (Kart Racing) while bashing Need For Speed Heat (Arcade Street Racing).

Don't worry kart racing fans, your favorite sub-genre of racing/driving game is still the most popular on your Nintendo systems.

Garfield Kart has a "very positive" reception on Steam currently.
