Name your favorite game with a "Familiar" and explain why

Ok so for the purpose of this thread and to make it clear, this is what I mean by "Familiar":

"An AI-controlled companion in a single player game that will assist you through various means"

So a recent obvious example would be Atreus from God of War. I thought he was cool in there, not only did he keep me company with dialogue along the way, but he was quite useful in battle and the way I used him was to maximize his stun potential so that I could perform finishing moves easier on foes.

However, my favorite is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night....the familiars in that game were great and had different abilities(the Sword was probably the coolest and my favorite) and they could be leveled up as well. I heard the game Dragon's Dogma has a great system with Familiars and I intend to play it soon….curious what your favorite game with Familiars is and why?

Personally it's always been an aspect I found very cool in games, especially when you can customize them and such....I figured this might be a good place to ask! It's not about your favorite game which happens to have familiars/AI-controlled helpers, but more about which game you liked its familiar system the most.

@GTR12: whatever you think could be considered a helper of sorts, sure......what does "he" do exactly?

• Chumbucket, from the Mad Max game. I dunno, he's eccentric, kind of funny, and he pulls his weight. He controls though as an extension of the player in the vehicle, not sure if that counts.
• Wheatley & GLaDOS from Portal 2, they're the stars of the show, they're the comedy relief, game would be pretty boring without them. They're mostly along for the ride but their are instances they exhibit their own scripted behaviors.

Daxter from Jak and Daxter games.

Tails. He can get an extra hit, speed up elevators, and fly you around. Cheese is also really good, but he's only in the Advance games.

For other series, I like the Sword from SOTN and Lumen from Azure Striker Gunvolt.

I hate AI Tails. When he hits the enemy and the enemy flashes, Sonic can fall through the enemy and die.

Companions in nier automata. So competent they can beat the hardest bosses themselves

You have to give it a second if that's happening you. Conversely, you can get Tails to land a hit that you're out of position for which can speed up boss fights.

@sakaixx: oh cool I did not even know Nier had familiars, getting the game soon so I'm glad that is the case

Elizabeth from Bioshock infinite.

Elizabeth from Bioshock infinite, I don't like have companions on games or anything, Even on KH I just upgraded myself except for there weapons, and set them to heal me. That's why I did like Elizabeth she just gave me ammo.

Think of it as a manager type role, he drives the car instead of you, and you handle all the pit in time, tyres, telling the driver to push/slow-down.

I can't think of a favourite one at the moment, but I can name the worst one and that's the chick from Resident Evil 5.

I actually enjoyed the brothers and how they interacted in Call Of Juarez: Bound In Blood.......... was actually a good game with a decent story.
