super mario 64, sunshine, galaxy.

ALL very different imo.

Main mario games DO seem to mix up the gameplay a lot. Dammit Ninty, stop being such Gods.

Also, the console zelda titles have been pretty different too. ALtTP to Oot to MM to WW to TP were all pretty different from each other. SS was pretty damn similar but even it had 1:1 swordplay which was a huge upgrade from TP. Will the Ninty domination ever stop...

Metal Gear Solid series ( like every other guy said ) is the boldest to shake things up. If you play MGS1 you would find it very different from MGS2 and MGS2 is very different from 3, 4 and 5 is even more unique than the rest.

For better or worse you have Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider and Resident Evil at second place.

Then GTA comes in at a distant 3rd.

Kojima lets the franchise evolve. Something where Zelda fails miserably.

Every Zelda game has been different and evolved. Your complaint is meaningless.

Randomly pick any Zelda game and odds are you're the same bloody guy, saving the same bloody girl, with the same bloody boomerang.

There was huge difference between Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 . And now third game is going open world .

On other hand , Dawn of War 1 = Real Time Strategy with base building . While Dawn of War 2 = Real Time Tactics with RPG elements and no base building .

Do you really believe that? LOL come on now.

Zelda hasn't changed at all. It's one of the biggest reasons the series is getting less popular and isn't getting any new fans.

Exactly! I was gonna say Witcher as well..then I found out that TC wanted a series with more than 3 entries (But that doesn't matter). The reboot of Witcher (If there's one later) will probably be different as well.

Metal Gear Solid. Each iteration is quite a step up from the last.

I somewhat agree with this. Every main MGS game felt different for some reason. MGS1 and 2 were close but 3 and 4 had very different stealth mechanics than 1/2 and between each other. Going by GZ, MGS5 will also play differently than the others

People saying Metal gear confuses me....MGS 3/4 and soon to be 5 seem to play pretty similarly...what's changed in the last 10 years???? I'm talking meaningful changes, not a new lick of paint.

Thats just wrong. MGS3 focused on cammo use, top down view, very open areas, survival mechanics (eating, healing wounds, etc). MGS had a little stealth cammo but in a less extent, more action focused. MGS5 seems to gives us more options in how to approach every situation

See that's what i mean...those aren't really changing up the formula much at all...those are just different elements within each game being different (which all games have) i am talking about new gameplay mechanics, such as how OoT turned into MM. It literally changed the way you had to play, not as an option, it FORCED you to use a time limit. It was brilliant. The MGS series seems to be more of the same, espescially 4 to now 5.

But it has. The problem is that each change has almost always been for the worst. The one time they didn't change and made basically a carbon copy of OoT- Twilight Princess- they ended up with the highest selling Zelda game of all time. All their other changes are what have alienated fans over the years.

Zelda hasn't changed at all. It's one of the biggest reasons the series is getting less popular and isn't getting any new fans.

But it has. The problem is that each change has almost always been for the worst. The one time they didn't change and made basically a carbon copy of OoT- Twilight Princess- they ended up with the highest selling Zelda game of all time. All their other changes are what have alienated fans over the years.

Zelda has changed aesthetically, that's true. But gameplay has stayed the same over time for the biggest part although we had some minor changes like in minish cap and the newest Zelda on 3DS. The Zelda formula hasn't really changed over the years imo.

And you're right about alienating its fans. It seemed to me that Nintendo went a totally different way than what the fans wanted the series to go. Nintendo went more cartoonish, kid-friendly,...after the N64 era, while most of the Zelda fans wanted the series to go a more mature way. And that's normal, its core fans were growing up too and wanted a more mature themed Zelda...and fans never got such a Zelda. (Twilight Princess was a nice try though)

Nintendo also has a lot of problems finding new fans (because of various reasons) for Zelda. If Zelda doesn't change and evolve in the right way, its popularity will fall even more and so will sales.

I really wonder how much the new Zelda will sell on the Wii U.

Whats the point ?

If different formulas is what you're after then thats what different games are for....

this...

If they are going to fundamentally change the basic gameplay, why even make a sequel?

You're going to alienate MORE people by deviating so much from the original than you are going to "anger" people by sticking close to your roots.

It's illogical.
