Main reason I love playing video games is I love getting sucked into worlds.

Wether it's fictional like Dishonored or Bioshocks world. Or based on true events like Brothers in Arms or the earlier COD games.

For movies I'd say Alien and Aliens are very immersive. And with that the Alien game that creative assembly made.

I'd also recommend giving Other Places a watch, it's such a good channel. So much effort put into these vids:

It has bad gameplay, graphics, and no story. It's pretty much a game for girls.

@the_master_race: Performance is alright. If you do want better performance I'd suggest tweaking the texture setting.

I finished the game a few times already and you can definitely get a sweet looking game while having great performance.

Just wait until you get to see the dust storms in effect. Enjoy!

@Juub1990: Some people like good graphics. Others like an interesting story and still others want a game to be very atmospheric.

Tarkovsky films are very atmospheric indeed, Zerkalo (1975) comes to my head.

Alien and Aliens as well.

A few mentions from the top of my head:

Death Stranding and its vision of the dystopian future. Great graphics and audio. Very immersive.

INSIDE, similar to LIMBO

Also Silent Hill games like you mentioned. 1 to 3 in my case.

Films:

Barry Lyndon (1975) Masterpiece. Compositions and representation of human conduct masterfully done.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) Disgusting and represents well the main character i think.

Valhalla Rising (2009) Slow burn from far away Nordic times.

Blade Runner (1982) Cyberpunk tour the force.

Embrace of the Serpent (2015) Spiritual journey, the amazon forest in black and white.

Enter The Dragon is very much Street Fighter, and one of the main influences on Akira Toriyama's Dragonball, specially Bruce Lee.

James Bond with fighting, and his slightly mediocre American freind, who has to be in the movie, because people are teh racists.

Enter the Dragon is one of the most influential movies of all time. It established Bruce Lee as one of the most famous dudes in the planet. It popularized martial arts among entire generations of people. It's the basis for almost every fighting game in existence. It inspired almost every Shounen fighting manga/anime in existence. And it inspired MMA.

Akira Toriyama said Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies were his original inspiration behind Dragon Ball. Goku is basically a fusion of both, like Lee when serious and like Chan when joking around.

P.S. Did that sidekick in Enter the Dragon really inspire Ken? Interesting.

Na just said that. Guessing they had to have white American guy alongside him, and likewise, Capcom probably felt they needed white American bro Ryu to appeal to the yankydoodles.

Speculation.

@ghosts4ever: Bloodsport was arguably also influential.

Incredibly inspiring movie based on absolutely true story. It's what helped me beat Conan.

@uninspiredcup:

Basically:

  • Bruce Lee = Ryu = Liu Kang
  • John Saxon = Ken = Johnny Cage

While most American martial arts movies suck, Bloodsport is one of the few good ones. It showcased JCVD's talent quite well, but we didn't see much of that in his later movies (due to American filmmakers being clueless about fight scenes). The drugged-up meathead Bolo Yeung also made a great villain. They wasted him in Enter the Dragon, where I was expecting him to face-off against Bruce Lee, but at least we got to see him shine in Bloodsport.

P.S. What do you mean it helped you beat Conan?

It's kind of ironic as Jean Claude Van Damme himself became a coke head tyrant.

It was basically him who reshot the fight scenes and done many for SFII, which, considering what a mess of a rushed movie it was, could have been worse. Also fighting a dude who was legit ill and dying.

But yea, Bloodsport is a classic, critics can go watch some black and white crap.

@uninspiredcup: In the movie JCVD, Van Damme talks about his drug problems and how he overcame it. JCVD is a good movie, BTW.

Most critics are ignorant about martial arts movies, and action filmmaking in general. Even great Jackie Chan movies have got mediocre reviews just because critics were clueless about things like action choreography and stunt work.

Hahaha, yeah i also first read the book by Süskind. I have to say the movie did a good job in the visual representation.

Barry Lyndon and Embrace of the Serpent... Nothing comes to mind. To compensate:

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice ------ Lone Wolfe and Cub

I remembered this...

Jacob's Ladder (1990) and Possession (1981) -------->>> Silent Hill games

A strong oniric feeling and terror throughout those films and Silent Hill. Highly recommend them.
