The above link shows their concept of force feedback triggers from 2019

The tweet below has some images which have a December 2020 date on them (so I am going to assume it was a patent renewal)

Ok... They didn’t use them in the final controller, so they get no credit.

How is it shilling moron? I posted a link to a patent and a news story. I personally (as I have said before) think plastic gears in a plastic controller that require the user to put extra force is a bad idea.

BTW do you follow me around waiting for me to post? It sure seems like it, you have an unhealthy obsession.

I believe cows call this patent trolling or something similar. You know, it's good when Sony does it but something entirely different when it's MS.

I believe one example was the patent Sony filed for DRM with used games. Cows claimed Sony only filed the patent for trolling purposes so no other company would do so. Didn't have aaaaaannnnyyyything to do with the backlash MS received for wanting to take the no used games stance prior to gen 8s launch.

You and I and most reasonable people call them hypocrites....cows that is

So MS were smart in the end not to use it, we're only just starting to hear the stories about Sony's controllers breaking.

Save the gimmicks just gimme a solid controller that works.

Maybe they saw an inherent problem with durability and sidelined it until they could work it out, unlike somebody, I'm not naming names because that's childish... **cough** Sony **cough** ...excuse me, that was a bad one.

I miss my Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro. Best damn desktop flight stick I ever did own. :-(

That thing had some powah. Would purchase day 1 if they re-released it.

@br0kenrabbit Didnt it!? That thing was awesome for flight games. At times I thought it would rip my wrist apart. Used it tons on the old MechWarrior games.

I downloaded some custom force curves for IL2. Had the misfortune of a mid-air collision with a HE-111. I literally sprang my wrist on that stick when it jerked suddenly towards my elbow. Reverted back to standard force curves.

I think a better design would be to forgo the plastic gears and put a pneumatic piston in the triggers that is pressurized to certain levels to provide stop/resistance..

Something like this .. this would mean the piston would push on the back of the trigger (which you could reinforce) and be less worrisome than plastic gears

Well, Microsoft historically does make better controllers than Sony. Most people who've used one consider the Elite controller the best controller they've ever used.

Now watch a bunch of Cows (who I'm assuming are grown men and gainfully employed) who also all claim to have a PC gaming rig that destroys the Xbox complain about a $180 pro controller that costs less than their Keyboard and Mouse.

No thanks, I don't want it. That's what I like the least about the DualSense. Does this mean MS is going to start putting this in their controllers? Are they going to release a different controller? I would much rather them just keep the Series X controller the way it is.

LOL according to whom kinglemming? according to the small minority of sad Xbox gamers who only come up with excuses for the fact that ms has not been able to innovate further on their boring ass design??

these are the same group of people that are “fine” with lack of new quality games, or ANY exclusive content for their brand new XSX.

You're so dumb and ignorant you don't realize that the controller is used by more than just Xbox users.

Like I said, you're probably the most toxic poster here and that's saying something when we have people like nathandrake. It just makes you look pathetic with each and every post. The fact that you're so toxic tells everyone how triggered MS has made you over the years. You're so triggered you create alts for your alt account. LOLOLOLOL I mean you can't get any sadder than that

Stay toxic clown

Force Feedback is awesome on a stick as the actual device, though not 1/1 is a basic representation of the instrument.

Donno about a thumb-pad though, sounds kind of shit.

@i_p_daily:

My friend, obviously in terms of their value to me as a platform.

1. PC, just about everything I want.

2. Nintendo, the exclusives I'm most interested in.

3. Sony... has exclusives. Occasionally has one I like.

4. Xbox... *crickets*

Not a knock against MS, glad they do what they do. Would love to play Nintendo games on PC.

Just cut me a check IP, I'll big shill for MS.

Pay by the post, bonus for creating topics, we can work something out.

Retroactive pay for every time I've praised an Xbox controller, or dunked on a PS exclusive. Talk to bookkeeper tormo.

Why would I have to pay when you do it for free silly lol.

But if you're looking for a cash incentive to do more, well i'm afraid you're going to need to get in touch with benjibanklin as he knows Uncle Phil waaaaaaaay better than any lem does here, i mean he would have his address, phone number and even his social security number.

@StrongDeadlift: according to whom Microsoft makes better controllers? Lemmings? What fantasy land are you in? 360 controller was slightly better than Dualshock 3, that's about it. Dualshock 2 was better than Duke and controller S, Dualshock 4 was better than Xbox One controller, and DualSense is better than Series controller.

Damn bro, totally rekt that guy. Traded one baseless claim for another with the surgical precision of I know you are but what am I. Priceless.

Unfortunately for both you, while there are some objective qualities that can be compared, overall it's a simple matter of preference.

And lets be real here, most of you aren't trying out all these different controllers anyways. Just cheerleading for whatever controller comes with your favorite box.

The MS controllers always have something wrong with them. D-Pad (Xbox, 360), no bumpers (Xbox), crappy bumpers (One, Series), offset sticks (all), no gyro aim (all), there's never been one where they got a good all around controller. They get some things right, they had an advantage with the dead zone on the Xbox/360 sticks, but MS has never had a good all around controller.

And you wonder why you're considered a herd member here, are you trying to hide that still?

I think they'll release a new controller in a couple years. It's not something console manufacturers wouldn't do. I think pretty much they all do it at some point.

If it's true that some of these PS5 resistance triggers have been breaking, I'd prefer MS take their time anyway.

I don't think any controller is perfect.

I don't think Playstation controllers have always been great either. And the D-pad is way over rated. Just tried out the PS4 controller for SF4, and it is HORRIBLE compared to the official Street Fighter 4 controllers D-pad, like it's not even close. Quarter circling on the SF4 D-pad is so easy. Now I know the Xbox D-pads suck, but no one ever said they were good.

I know this is subjective, but the pre-PS4 iconic PS controller shape isn't as comfortable. PS4 controller shape is comfortable though.

Off set sticks is subjective. While I prefer the left stick being higher, if you hold a PS4 and a current Xbox controller, you'll realise that the shape of the pad comfortably aims your thumb where it's meant to be, be it low or high. The previous PS iconic shape didn't do this, so it always felt awkward using the left stick low for me. If you hold a PS One or Two pad, they don't comfortably aim your thumbs toward the lower positioned sticks.

Bumpers on the Xbox 360 pad suck. It just isn't as comfortable to get to. Don't have a problem with the current Xbox controller. D-pad still isn't great, but it's usable at least.

Xbox triggers have always been better though. I always liked having more depth to move with.

I would like the DualShock 4 and the DualSense better if it had less features, actually. I would take better battery life instead of features I don't like and features I don't use, such as the lightbar, touchpad, gyroscope, adaptive triggers, that little speaker, it's a lot of extra stuff. I've always been a PlayStation guy despite my decision to go Xbox this generation. I've had countless hours spent on PlayStation 1, 2, 3 and 4, much more than any Xbox, and I have never used the lightbar, touchpad, gyroscope, or any of these other little features that are useless to me personally. I would much prefer a more minimalist approach and conserve battery life. The battery in the DualSense is 50% larger than the DualShock 4, and it still only lasts about 10 hours before needing to be recharged. I think the PlayStation controllers are good, but I prefer the Xbox controllers because of their battery life, comfort, simplicity, compatibility with iPhone, Android and PC, easily replaceable li-ion batteries and the frontwards/backwards compatibility. The Xbox One and Series X controllers fit my hands perfectly.

I'm an old-school gamer, though. SNES is my favorite console. I like improvements, but I don't like additions unless they are really game changing, like stuff that will become industry standard. I'm talking about stuff like when dual analog was introduced, or when Nintendo introduced the d-pad, or when the SNES introduced shoulder buttons, that stuff is game changing stuff that became industry standard. To me, things like the lightbar, touchpad, gyroscope, they're just extra filler that people forget about and usually isn't even utilized by developers. It's not taking the industry by storm. I feel the same way about 3D TV's, VR, the Wii, Kinect, all gimmicks that don't really IMPROVE the way we play games.
