Most disappointing modern gen game endings.

Nothing is worse than spending hours playing a game and becoming invested in its characters and lore, only to have it completely bomb at the end. What are some of the most disappointing game endings this or last gen?

Mass Effect 3: Pathetic. We all know why this one was bad. Roped us into 3 games and tacked on an ending that is completely absurd.

Prey (Original): All that work and nothing but disappointment, not getting what you fought for.

Breath of the Wild: Dumbest ending in a modern Zelda game, and actually worse than Mass Effect 3. Weak boss fight and an unrewarding ending. 5 years and this is the best they could come up with? Wow.

for me. Fallout 3 - build up suspense and courage just to get smashed down back where you started and even further from becoming a hero

I agree Breath of the Wild's ending was pretty weak.

I just recently finished Thimbleweed Park and it had a terrible ending.

I was more disppointed by BotW's final battle than its ending.

As for me, I don't know, I thought I am Setsuna's ending was weird and lame.

Forgot about that. Fallout 3 and 4 have terrible endings.

BotW - As if I didn't find the game itself to be disappointing enough. the ending had to be the cherry on top.

Fable 2 - WTF? No, seriously WTF was that?

Gears 2 - I think Cliffy B. said he wanted you to feel like a badass from the ending, but I don't know how pressing one button is supposed to do that.

DA: Origins - It was just kind of stupid, like the rest of the game, so maybe it makes sense in hindsight.

Divinity: Original Sin- Classic. The final boss battle was too easy at first, then they buffed it and made it frustratingly hard. But that was never really the actual problem. The problem was after the battle where it was almost literally "And they won and all lived happily ever after..." *ROLL CREDITS*. Pretty disappointing ending for an otherwise incredibly good game.

Thankfully Larian corrected pretty much everything wrong in the Enhanced Edition and gave it a proper ending.

Metal Gear Solid V for me.

Should have just ended after fighting Sahelanthropus.

What constitutes a "modern" game?

Assassin's Creed 2 and Crysis 3 both had the most anger-inducing endings I've had the misfortune to sit through.

I'd say anything from this gen and last are modern.

Portal 2, not because it's short, but because it's overblown. The entire thing turns into a largely uncontrollable Call Of Duty press "X" sequence followed by a jarring FMV that's a poor replica of the first games ending that was far simpler and far better. The game largely avoided kissing it's own ass, but it fell down at this part.

Mgsv was really choppy story wise, the "ending" was just a replay of what you've already seen. Very anticlimactic

This has probably the worst opening's i've seen in a game. The only good thing about it is David Bowie.

And it repeats at the end you say? Ouch.

Order was pretty disappointing. Overall "game" wasn't that bad, but that ending had me so "urgh"

One of my absolute favorite games last gen was The Saboteur. Until the ending. Da fuq was that?

Notable mention was Blops3. I was confused as to what was going on I was glad the game had finished so I could find a video explaining it to me LUL

Mass Effect 3 is pretty atrocious.

MGSV i guess, considering its ending got cut. i liked the twist but that final mission just shows up without any build-up
