This should be fun. Have a good time everyone. ;)

Microsoft: Gaming sales declined 10% in Q4 to $2.053 billion.

Xbox Hardware down 48% on lower volume.

Xbox Software & Services off 3% primarily from a "3rd party title" (named Fortnite).

XBL Monthly Active Users grew 14% to 65 million in the quarter.

Well we are winding down on this gen so I guess it is only natural for hardware sales to decline. $2 billion in Q4 seems not too shabby to me. Anyway as long as they stay in the game so to speak, provide with a console to purchase that I can play physical games on, and provide games and services that I enjoy then I’ll continue to support them. They certainly look to be doing just that for now and into next gen so I’m good to go. ?

That's why Sony won't do what MS is doing because it'a a failing formula.

Honestly MS killed Xbox One in 2015 when then they announced play anywhere. That was IT!

MS was on cruse control ever since that point.

Somehow, Xbox fans just didn't figure it out yet.

You'd think with Phil Spencer calling PC fans first class citizens and telling them at E3, "Consoles is not where our business is at"they'd get a f****** clue.

Microsoft dumped console fans a long time ago, but Phil and MS won't turn away free donations of XBL money from mindle$$ $upporter$.

XBL grew 14% in the quarter to 65 million. That is the only good thing for MS this last quarter.

This is the last year for current consoles so sales should be lower. Even Sony sales are less than last year. All the people buying PS4s this year are going to buy a PS5 next year? I don't think so.

yeah but Sony's momentum is much larger and a slow down from them wouldn't be as dramatic. Losing 48% of your volume is really bad. This while they introduced the X and SAD. And as for people buying PS5's next year after buying a PS4 now, that percentage of games is low compared to the install base of about 70-80 Million. I don't think it'll matter.

Xbox continues to be a money pit for the company. Game Pass is not going to pay off, especially at the rate they're giving it away. The consoles have tanked which we already know as retailers keep marking them down as far as they can. Why would anyone want to invest in the next one? It's just going to be another box they'll have to aggressively mark down again.

The only thing that's saving Phil Spencer's ass is MS's overall envy of Sony's position in the gaming market, and that started with Bill Gates himself who wanted nothing more than MS to dominate whatever field they were in... that was worth dominating anyway. Xgoons keep shitting on Mattrick, but Phil's worse by a country mile.

Pretty much the only way that they gave out 1 buck gamepasses is to get more people on there service to experience it and have there credit information in the hope that they stay subscribed.

It's smart.

@drlostrib: Microsoft sometimes buys their own shares back with extra income to inflate its stock price, probably do it after these bad announcements to keep investors happy I'd never invest in microsoft company is inflated and bloated. Apple is a way better company and so is nintendo and sony.

Gaming subscriptions are going to be the primary money-maker for console makers going forward.

Why was MS giving away GP for $1?

Part of these business plans for any company, not just gaming, is counting on people being too lazy to cancel services they no longer or rarely use, shady? yes. But profitable.

They're not. That's the cost for the first month, after which it jumps to about $5 a month. But, you're effectively paying them to beta test the Game Pass for Windows, so you're getting a much cheaper rate than what it will likely be when the release version hits.

They tell you all of this during sign-up. So, there's going to be some people in for nasty surprises when the release goes live simply because those people didn't bother to read the text right above the shiny button.

If Apple dumps Intel CPUs, Apple would be open to Intel's CPU patent litigation.

@xhawk27:

Even that should be taken with a grain of salt, because you can get a free live account on pc and still count as part of that 14% increase.

I dont think ps4 sales are down 48% but may be down as well, people who are buying a ps4 now are late adopters or people replacing one, those late adopter would never get a ps5 next year they would simply wait 4 or 5 years to jump in.
