Old, but still interesting. It'd be nice to see what these rookie devs have planned.FireSpirit117
I wouldn't really call them rookies. Most of the guys working there have more than a decade of experience.

I don't think MS would want to make a game that could potential compete against their own flag ship title (Halo).Vari3ty
Lead designer of Crysis 2? Well that's not good...
Sten Huebler. He also worked on Crysis as a lead level designer.

Huh. It sort of came off like they were hiring a bunch of new talent, but I guess I missed that part.Another shooter? How about a platformer like Ratchet & Clank or Mario?
Blazerdt47
Ugh no, no platformers.
If they want one of those, they can just slap it on the XBLA where it'd be arguably more successful anyway. Waste of time making a full blown retail platformer.

Huh. It sort of came off like they were hiring a bunch of new talent, but I guess I missed that part.55 people currently working there are quite experienced and they're hiring more experienced people. You can't really expect that MS would give tens of millions to bunch of rookies to make "next Halo."

Ratchet & Clank and Mario are some of the best games on their consoles. I rather have an adventure platformer than another shooter. Gaming in general is a waste of time.
Mad old, and still interesting, but you can't plan to make the next Halo or Call of Duty.
You just the best game you can. What makes it the next Halo is how people react to it.
Or, to quote Jason Jones, who, for those who don't know, co-founded Bungie and co-created Halo: "The only difference between entertainment that is successful and entertainment that fails is how people respond to it."

They have limited appeal, discounting Mario of course. But that's the exception, he's been around for 25+ years and is synonymous with Nintendo and their consoles. People buy Xboxes for CoD and Halo primarily, thus logic would dictate they're going to create a shooter that'll aim to rival either of those.
And my point above still stands. There's no shortage of platformers on XBLA, one might even say there's an oversaturation. They had their heyday, but that's long past. For better or worse, shooting stuff is where it's at now.
And that's a very cynical view you have. I suppose everything is a waste of time in that case? Reading, walking, listening to music, socialising and so on?It's what you make of it.

[/QUOTE I'd be shocked if they're making another FPS franchise, unless they don't think Halo is gonna last. But they have a Halo factory now (343) and it seems like a total waste to have two exclusive FPS series because they might take away from one another. I don't think it'll necessarily be a FPS either. We already saw that MS canned Perfect Dark Core because they seemed content to have Halo fill their "Spacey FPS" role.
I do 100% believe it'll involve guns and murder though, in one way or another.

There is an oversaturation of platformers? If anything, that goes for shooters. Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, and Ratchet & Clank are all great franchises. Why would only Mario get a pass? I would love to see another Banjo Kazooie (a REAL Banjo game) or even a Blinx: The Time Sweeper reboot. Also why would Mario be an exception? Just because he's been around forever? XBLA platformers don't compare to full fledged action adventure platformers like Super Mario Galaxy, A Crack In Time, Zelda, etc...
Shooters are ruining gaming. Developers take less and less risks because they want a piece of that COD success. They are slowly converting their own franchises to appeal to COD fans. Activision shut down multiple studios and converted them to make yearly COD games instead. Capcom basically destroyed Resident Evil because they wanted the COD success. If there is an oversaturation of anything, it's shooters.
Though you said that they didn't mention it an FPS so hopefully it's not.

Hey, I totally agree, we've got far too many shooters on the market. That genre will collapse in on itself in the not-too-distant future.
All I'm saying is MS want a new system seller. They know they can't coast off Halo's popularity forever, so they're investing in their own future. And what genre has proven to be the most popular with consumers time and time again? Shooters, hence the aforementioned copy cats. I'll be shocked if it's not another shooter, they have the highest success rate in this day and age. And we all know MS don't do anything unless there's promise of financial gain. They'll go with the least risky.
sigh*
all I keep hearing from MS is halo halo halo
I wouldnt mind supporting the next MS console if they made new IPs. Since they always keep putting out Halo I guess I'll rather keep supporting sony. Unless they put a "casual" vibe that is
Lol wat. This... is a new IP? It's a shooter, and the developers want it to be as big as Halo.sigh*

I think we'll be looking at some narrative driven game with lots of action and light rpg elements. Setting? Who knows. Guns? Maybe but not a clone of halo or cod.Halo is great and all, but if MS is banking on Halo then I'm out. I'm tired of them pimping the same four "core" franchises and acting like it's enough. Potentially, sure. I agree we need new diversity in the games we receive.

So when Sony brings new IPs into the fold, they are to be lauded. However, when MS do it, they are to be mocked?

i noticed plural at the end of IP. IP's, and investing in this IP for the next 7 years, dont seem the same.
Halo is great and all, but if MS is banking on Halo then I'm out. No. It's Halo, but perhaps in a new form (i.e. Halo Wars -- and RTS), but we will have to wait and see what it actually is, but it's still the Halo name and brand. A new IP would be something completely different. What I'm saying is tell new stories, create new characters and give us new experiences -- don't just copy paste a universe into something because you can and think it will sell well.Again this is a new IP. Not related to Halo.

No, it isn't. Also, "this"?
you started quotations with dots, which makes the quotations obsolete. Therefore introducing a new sentence, hence the use of "this". aside from this, and my improper use of Capital letters, you not only didn't use your original quote amongst the other quotes, which would have required a use of "this", you used a changed quote, which requires the use of "this". but hey, take this, and shove it.you started quotations with dots, which makes the quotations obsolete. Yep, however the former ellipsis was necessary and the latter should have contained 4, for the ellipsis and a full stop. However, the point was conveyed, regardless.

If I did not use the first set of ellipses, then I would have used the word "this", in order to make it an integrated quote. I wasn't integrating it into the sentence.
