[QUOTE="Unholy_Smite"]Won't keep that for 2 weeks and Halo 3 will OWN IT! I see 1 to 2 million Halo 3 games in 1 DAY! Since Halo 3 has already outsold MP3 and it hasn't even been released. ;)Solid_Snake1221

I guess you don't realize 400,000 is really good for a metroid title :|

For that series yes, but Halo has gone gold on pre-sale.

So much for the argument that Wii owners don't buy hardcore games.GrlGmr
I thought theargument (or stereotype) was that they never buy hardcore third party games beyond RE.

Why are people comparing this to Halo 3? Halo 3 is the most "casual" title on the 360, obviously its going to sell more than Metroid Prime 3.

On the other hand, Metroid Prime 3 sold more on Wii than Bioshock did on 360 in it's first week with half the American Userbase.

Also, comparing with other Prime games, Metroid Prime 3 has had the best first week sales in its series. This is GREAT news because Nintendo considers this to be their hardest of hardcore titles... which it is.

[QUOTE="nintendofreak_2"]Isn't that more than MP2 in it's life span? :?....:oKrazy_duck

If I remember correctly, MP2 sold 500k

while MP1 sold a million.

No

Metroid Prime 2 sold 800,000 in the US alone and sold just over 1.2 million WW

Metroid Prime sold over 1.2 million in the US and just over 1.8 million WW

Metroid Prime 3 has had the best first week a Prime title has ever had. Can someone say 2+ million seller WW?

Halo IS casual and hardcore, kinda the same thing as Mario, you can play it and enjoy it being casual and hardcore, but metroid is extremely hardcore and that's why is a surprise that is selling so good.

The preorders alone show it has casual appeal. Halo is a lot like GTA, in the fact that both casuals and 'hardcore' gamers buy it.

Metroid is a niche adventure/puzzle/shooter which makes these figures very impressive. Every frat guy and his brother is gonna buy Halo 3, as it's pretty much the most mainstream game in history--right up there with Madden. That's not a judgement about quality or anything like that, I'm just saying it's unfair to try to compare Metroid to Halo sales.

In its first week of sales, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption sold 400,000 copies, knocking Bioshock (PC and 360) out of its first place position.OregonTrailing

Big whoop. Halo 3 will sell more than that in a day.

not really. Everyone calls Wii Sports casual... when it's actually "mainstream". Either way... it doesn't matter. Halo is casual, Smash is causal... basically anything that sells well on a console is casual.

When I think of casual I think of the gamer's gaming style. Just because a game sells well doesn't mean its casual. In short, mainstream refers to popularity, casual does not.

Twilight Princess did well, RE 4 did well and this game is off to a great start hopefully it continues to do well. And Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl should also do well. If they do, it's great news because it will show developers that more than just non-gamers/super-casuals buy the Wii and maybe we'll see more focus on making more hardcore type games.

ok, I get what your saying. I just see so many people call Smash Bros. casual and Mario casual because they sell well, so I'm basically going off of that. But ok... Halo 3 is WAY more mainstream than Metroid is... EASILY! Thus the 400,000 beating out Bioshock in it's first weeks sales is IMPRESSIVE! Especially for a machine that everyone dubs casual trash.

just to put this in perspective guys... there are 4 million Wii's in america. over 400,000 bought Metroid Prime 3 in it's first week. That is 1/10th of the people who own Wii's. How many will end up selling? Over a million, easily... and that would be 1/4th of all American Wii's

there is a wait with every console. Before MP3 I was waiting for a month... luckily I had God of War II and VC titles! :D But I was also waiting for Bioshock. EVERYONE has to wait. Games don't just appear every week.

[QUOTE="GrlGmr"]So much for the argument that Wii owners don't buy hardcore games.Nike_Air

I thought theargument (or stereotype) was that they never buy hardcore third party games beyond RE.

Which is a stupid argument because beyond RE 4 there isn't a hardcore third party title worth giving a damn about. Red Steel? Sonic and the Secret Rings? Though to be fair, despite the quality of those games, they didn't sell that bad. Regardless, maybe if third parties would actually put some effort into the games they'd sell better. I think sales of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Bully, No More Heroes, Nights: Journey of Dreams, etc.will be a better indicator. Though I think the jury is out on Nights actually being worth it.

I just know NMH will be just like Killer7. Mediocore reviews and bad sales but still an absolutely magnificent game with a cult following.

[QUOTE="aroxx_ab"]Yeah no wonder, Wii owners have been starving for good games since launch after they completed zelda TP. Now they need wait another 6months or a year for next good game.kansasdude2009

No we are not, after Zelda we had Trauma center, Super Paper mario, Excite truck, Wario ware, Rayman and RE4, so we dont have to wait, unlike others...

there is a wait with every console. Before MP3 I was waiting for a month... luckily I had God of War II and VC titles! :D But I was also waiting for Bioshock. EVERYONE has to wait. Games don't just appear every week.

I know, but he just said it in a way that....Forget it :P

[QUOTE="GrlGmr"]So much for the argument that Wii owners don't buy hardcore games.Gamer46

I thought theargument (or stereotype) was that they never buy hardcore third party games beyond RE.

Which is a stupid argument because beyond RE 4 there isn't a hardcore third party title worth giving a damn about. Red Steel? Sonic and the Secret Rings? Though to be fair, despite the quality of those games, they didn't sell that bad. i actually liked sonic and the secret rings it felt like the old sonics but 3D

just to put this in perspective guys... there are 4 million Wii's in america. over 400,000 bought Metroid Prime 3 in it's first week. That is 1/10th of the people who own Wii's. How many will end up selling? Over a million, easily... and that would be 1/4th of all American Wii's

THAT is big!

rkay36

where r u from in kansas? im from kansas as well

off topic - I was from McPherson, Kansas. It's pretty small. I now live in Michigan and I visit Olathe and Kansas City for family.

On Topic - Just to put another thing out there - Zelda TP has sold over 2 million in the US. Does this mean that 1/2 of all Wii owners own Twilight Princess? Is the Wii population only filled with grandmas and soccer moms? haha... nope. This is why RE4 sold 300,000 more than expected for Capcom.

If anything... this should be good news to all those people saying "Wii is destroying GAMING!!"

Actually, Super Paper Mario, RE 4: Wii Edition and Mario Strikers, all good games came out in the months before MP 3. Wii hasn't had as bad a start as some think. It could've been better, but it also could've been worse. 360's first year wasn't that much better than Wii's or PS3's.

oh, and sorry people but i'm on a roll here. Red Steel sold over a million world wide. I know... it sucks, but the point is, who is buying these games? Its not little girls who play Wii Sports every afternoon.

Halo 3 has Sold 1.1 million copies, and the game is still being made in factories.

What are you trying to prove? Sales don't make the game any better.

lafigueroa

Really, I wasn't trying to "prove" anything. I just though people would like to hear the news.

But it does help show that non-casual games sell well on the Wii.
