It's not over yet.

UPDATE: Konami has announced the PC version of Metal Gear Survive launches alongside the console versions on 22nd February 2018. All versions cost £34.99.

ORIGINAL STORY: Metal Gear Survive comes out on 22nd February 2018 in Europe and 20th February in the US, Konami has announced.

This release date appears to relate to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game only - at least that's what Konami's promotional image, below, suggests.

Metal Gear Survive is still pegged for launch on PC via Steam, but it looks like we don't have a release date for that version yet.

Metal Gear Survive, developed without series creator Hideo Kojima, is set in an alternate universe that sees the player-created character sent through a wormhole along with other Militaires Sans Frontières soldiers to a world populated by weird crystallised zombies.

Damn, better pre-order the game for the survival pack bonus. I wouldn't want to miss out on those happy and thumbs-up gestures!

Great news. I'm sure fans are gonna rip it a new one but I'm probably gonna get it anyway.

Let's see, let me think about this. If I had to pick between Metal Gear Survive & Days Gone, I'm picking up Days Gone over this POS that is Metal Gear Survive.

At the very end, Days Gone has a lot going for then I could possibly say for Metal Gear Survive.

I'd rather DLC that actually finishes up the story of MGSV properly.

Prob be the opposite, reviewers jumping on a bandwagon of hate to appease fans.

Objective reviews will exist, but it won't be Jim Sterling.

He's kind of already done his work.

It's great Jim Sterling brings attention to scummy practices, but in this case he's drummed up hate towards a game on premise alone. Which is straight up bs.

Remember when people were crowing this wasn't Metal Gear Solid?

Seems so lame, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if it's fun af.

They'd have to go out of their way to make the gameplay suck. And one of the biggest things I felt MGSV was missing was a co-op mode, could've been great really.

I think the biggest issue with this game will likely be a microtransaction fvck fest. MGSV had microtransactions, but they were in the background. Stuff that didn't even tempt me with well over 200 hours of play. But I wouldn't be surprised if that shit is front and center here.

Still hoping it turns out good.

I second this (Or I could also settle for MGS HD Collection PC port....with MGS4 included)

Its still not a Metal Gear Solid game (its even in the name), but the difference was this is a COMPLETE game, that was directed by Kojima himself, and is a pretty darn good Hack&Slash, but this MGS Survive? this is CLEARLY cash grab, made with 0 passion and is mostly recycled from MGS5.

I want this game to fail so hard because of what they did to Kojima. They're going to learn that you don't go against the grain that this franchise has established.

None of this means the game will be bad.

Jim Sterling pointed out the misdeeds of Konami, from there I formed my opinion, nothing more and nothing less. Now unless you are telling me that Jim (and other media outlets that report on things Konami have done, like mistreating their staff, shitting on the MGS franchise, etc) lied to us and that YOU might have a better or more accurate insight of the situation then I'm inclined to agree with him. So, do or did you see something that I don't? or are you trying to stand out for the sake of standing out?

Eh. Not that it even matters to this topic, but... Kojima didn't direct Rising and the game was criticized a lot for its short run time. Just sayin.

OK "Supervising director" (but lets be honest, we all know that Kojima was mostly in charge) and yeah the game was criticized for having a relatively short run compared to other Hack n slash, so the game wasn't PERFECT, so what? doesn't change the fact the game is a pretty darn good Hack N Slash, sorry that is a fact that cannot be disputed.

Cool it bruh, it is a very good game, I wasn't knocking the quality at all lol.

But no, Kojima was very hands off with the game. It was all Platinum. Kojima signed it off to them after the first run of in house development didn't work out. The whole point was for Kojima not to work on the game lol. When he left it to his team and they came up short, he outsourced it.

As for the short run time, I wasn't even knocking that either, I think a lot of games are too damn padded out and overstay their welcome. I was only bringing it up since you knocked something for not being "complete" while bringing up Rising, which was kinda viewed the same way, even if I personally think it's a dumb crit against the game.

I'll keep any eye on this. Metal Gear has had a lot of good spin-offs without Kojima (Ghost Babel, AC!D, Revengeance), so it could end up good.

But... it will probably be riddled with microtransactions. So there's that.

But I can Also say that if you skip all the cutscenes and codecs of the first 4 MGS games, The games are as short as Rising.

The main reason that it was short was due to this that Platinum Only had less than 1 year to develop the game.

Yep, from what I understand Kojima was pretty worried they wouldn't be able to make on time lol. Sure turned out good though, would've been nice to see what they could pull off with more time in the cooker.

And yeah the first 4 games are pretty short. I think MGS3 is the meatiest of the bunch, but 1, 2 and 4 can easily be beaten in a single sitting if you skip cutscenes. Even 3 if you cheese it. Though they're all very replayable, so it never bothered me really.

Would pay good money to see both man. :(

We need more 3d beat em ups so badly. Bayo 2 was the last big thing for the genre, what, 3 years ago?

Platinum with a real budget and timeline for Rising 2 would be great. A DMC5 that plays at least as good as DMC4 would be a god send.

Also hoping Ninja Gaiden sees a revival now that Team Ninja proved their worth with Nioh.

I'd take a new trip with any of those franchises, but also hoping to see a new breakthrough IP for the genre. As much as I'd love a Bayo 3 for example, would also just like to see a new IP with a fresh battle system. Doesn't have to be as off the wall as TW101 (great game), but still. Something different.

lol sorry for the ramble. I just love this genre. :(

This.

Yup.

To be honest, I can see the game being a total disaster. But even if it turns out great, it probably won't get a fair shake.
