FXAA... 60fps Cutscenes... Now 3D too?

That 2nd cutscenewas a big tease since I would love to play that entire sequence in 60fps...:evil:

Maybe a 60fps Gears spinoff next gen?

Speaking of which... Where did they find that extra ram for smoother cutscenes? These same cutscenes in the leaked build were chugging badly.

I'm guessing the inclusion of FXAA allowed for more headroom.

Nope. That would take more bandwidth. Especially for 60fps cutscenes.

I don't care about cut scenes or 3D. FXAA looks very nice. Still, my interest in this game is pretty low. It looks like more of the same to me. Been there, done that.

CliffyB was on neogaf a few months back talking about binks new compression techniques. So I assume at least some of the cutscenes in gears 3 are just video files and not real-time.

I know what you mean... But the pre-recorded stuff like in past Gears gameswere blatant CGI. The intro for instance in Gears 3 "We're all stranded" is the kind of stuff Cliffy B was talking about. The majority of the cutscenes are all realtime to save disc space.

Making a 60fps pre-recorded file is silly since the game doesn't run in 60fps anyway. I'm thinking the game has a variable framerate with certain cutscenes like in Bayonetta. If you notice, motion blur is turned off in each of these cutscenes.

Also these same cutscenes in the leaked build were in realtime.

Not sure I like that. Should be 24. Use the ability to push 60 frames per minute if there are any slow motion moments. It removes the cinematic look of cinematics. I'd like that in-game, though.

I'm more interested in the level of polish of the campaign and MP. Cutscenes' polish and frame rate are't too relevant, especially for a game like this.

I met with Cliffy B on a multiplayer match in Gears 2 and had him on my friends list for a while. (Don't say you don't believe me because I can't prove it and I really don't care) But he was telling me about how Ps3 exclusive titles always show off a degree of super-polish which he didn't much see in Xbox360 exclusives. Granted, he said Xbox360 exclusives are terrific and he loved them just as much, he and I, among others, should agree. He told me that he wanted to make the next Gears of War game stand out among all competitors. That was before Gears 3 was even announced. Now I see what he was getting at.

As a quick aside for those able to play it in 3D... the 3D will halve the resolution on the Xbox. I'm still playing it that way, but it should be noted.

That's one of the big "no sales" for me on the 3D front.
