For Skyrim I took a 3-4 month break before finishing it at 100 hours.

There were other games, like Xenogears and Vagrant Story, which I started back in 2000, and didn't finish until 8+ years later. But I didn't use the same save file, so that doesn't really count.

What about you, SW?

Off the same save file, I have no clue. In general though, I started a game of FFIX the day it launched and didn't actually beat the game until sometime in 2009.

8 years with Hafe Life 2. Bored me to death when it first came and I had to push myself to finish because of the HL3 jokes a while later.

Hmmm...well, back in 1997 with Final Fantasy 7 I got to the end of Disc 3 ready to beat Sephiroth and then I waited until last month to finally defeat Sephiroth. I waited through four generations of Playstation consoles and now the graphics are terrible.

However, I didn't want the Fantasy to end.

It's not true as I beat the game in '97, but it seemed funny idea to write this, lol.

Only recently have I taken to juggling games, in the past though I avoided it as it usually lead to not ever finishing any of them. I'm attempting to make a better go about balancing my attention between titles. If a break is ever too long to get back into a game I'll just start over, which is probably a reason why I can't finish certain games like FF, I'll get too bored in between then forget all about it.

Probably the longest, I've been playing Persona Q on my 3DS since it released and I'm still playing it. I don't play my 3DS nearly as much as I use to since getting an Xbox One so I really only play it in short durations here and there. I've been forever toward the end but have yet to finish it. So, that, 7 months maybe?

I've probably gone longer on games I started but came back to later, and started over and finished. I don't recall ever just jumping back into a game to finish it after a long break.

I bought FFXIII and played it lot for like 6 months and gave up for a year or so, then get back to it to finish on before FFXIII-2 came out. I played through it and platinium it ( like that game came out in febuary and finished it early april ) then I decided to platinium XIII during the summer.

My Metroid Prime save file is from 2003-ish. Got stuck a few times as a kid. Last time I played I finally beat Ridley and made it to Metroid Prime. Will beat soon.

@SolidTy: similar story here. Got ff7 for the ps1 when it launched, made it to a battle with edea after failing to hitch a ride on the Pandora thing. Got stuck. Then bought the game for my vita and cleared it a couple of months ago. Must be 1997 to 2015 break.

Beat STALKER Call of Pripyat about 2 years after I started it.

I recently finished Shadow of Mordor after about 5 or 6 months of ignoring it (I was half way through).

I finished Dishonered after a few months too.

I've got this weird habbit of getting to the end of games but never actually finishing them. It drives me nuts.

Some of my favorite games I've never actually finished myself.

Dark Souls. I got the game in 2013, stopped playing for almost a year and just started back into it. Trying to finish it now off and on, I got Final Fantasy X remaster for PS Vita so most games have taken a back seat to it.

Majora's Mask took me years to finish. It's dark atmosphere put me off when I was younger, the time keeping felt tedious, and reusing the Ocarina audiovisual elements disappointed me. I have come to enjoy it much more since but I still feel it's a bit of a strange "Ocarina expansion pack", and I don't adore it like all the forum folks always claim to :P

Just finished that yesterday. Thought it was great in places, flawed in others. Not the catastrophe people were calling it though. (surprise, surprise, the internet overreacts and whines too much about something!)

GTA4. Back in April 29, 2008 since release, I played the game for 6 days, went on Hiatus until 2010 to finish up the game only because GTA4 was a huge letdown from San Andreas.

On the same save file, it was probably Pokemon Gold. I never got to beat Red, until I went back to it many years later. It was a waste anyway, because the save battery died some time later.

2 years....Valkyria Chronicles. I just had a lot going on in school at the time, and then a massive backlog. When I finally got around and finished it, the game became my personal goty for both the year I bought it and the year I beat it.

Started Valkriya Chronicles when it came out in November 2008 (I believe that is when it came out), got to a tank level I could not beat and put the game down. Over four years later I picked it up during the break I take around Christmas, and finished it January 2, 2013.

I put down FF13 for 6 months. I came back to it and realized I was only 40 mins from the end of the game.

The pacing in that game is absolutely terrible.

If I've taken a long break I'll likely start over tbh. Can't think what games I would have come back to later but there must have been some. Majora's Mask I never finished on the 64 when it released and have only just done so on the 3DS.

Probably Twilight Princess, but I'm sure I'm forgetting some other game that I finished a while ago, then there are games I started and have yet to touch in years ha. Twilight Princess was getting a little dull towards the end, but I knew I was at the final boss, but I just could not for the life of me find that dang final 60th Poe Soul anywhere. I looked at guides and just about everything to find it and couldn't. I think I started playing it in 2011, 2012, or 2013. One of those three years, but most likely 2012. Then I think I finally came back to it in the summer of 2014 or sometime around there and looked at the guides one last time and the first place I go to I find that dang soul lol. Then I went onto the final boss and yay, the end.

As far as recent games go, I would say Beyond Two Souls since I pre-ordered it but I quickly stopped playing it because that game was really awful. I eventually sat down and finished it somewhere around 4-6 months after I bought it, but only because I figured I should play thru the entire game at least once. I haven't touched it since.

It took me at least a couple years to finish Mass Effect 2. I bought both ME2+3 in tandem in a Gamestop bargin bin a couple years ago, and for some reason every time I started up ME2 I would always lose interest in the game and stop playing. I would start the game back up on a new save file every so often but then I would stop playing... until a few months ago when I decided to dust off my PS3 and sit down to finally finish ME2. I've been playing thru ME3 in small, short bursts since then.

But my longest gap would definitely be Zelda Twilight Princess. I got the game for the GameCube way back when it came out in '06, and for some reason or another I didn't finish it until around '12 or '13 when I invited a friend over to my house and he suggested that we play thru it.

Also, I've only completed a playthrough of MGS4 only once. I've tried to re-start that game many times over the years but I ALWAYS lose interest by the 2nd act, since it's a long game and the pacing is very slow, not to mention it's pretty hard for me to want to re-play a game like that when I already know what's going to happen...

As much as I love playing games, I just don't have the time nor the attention span to sit down and play long games like I used to anymore =T

Uncharted 3. Got the ps3 bundle when it came out. Played it and hated it, got to part where you get dumped on a ship wreck and stopped playing for at least a few years. Played it a few weeks ago and got a bit further (like 2-3 chapters further). Unbelievable how boring and clunky that game is, yet it gets so much praise. And to think I bought a ps3 for this game lmfao.
