interviewer: what do u say to those who may feel left out by your lack of core game announcements?

Reggie: what do you mean? we announced animal crossing!

E3 is not for business, and not for the casuals.

Microsoft and Sony (and pretty much every other developer) did not conduct their conferences that way.

Nintendo's rhetoric also indicates they didn't feel that either, Reggie was promising hardcore gamers would be excited by their conference beforehand, and afterwards argued they shouldn't be dissapointed.

"All I can tell you is what we announce during E3 is gonna be fantastic. The gamer is gonna be excited and the expanded audience is gonna be excited."Nintendo_Man

Notice how he distinguishes the gamer and the expanded audience?

Ofcourse E3 is now for casuals, most of the media at the show are mainstream. E3 used to be hardcore when it actually let gamers into the show. E3 is a business, the show wouldn't be held if it wasn't (that is why developers are there showing their producst).Nintendo_Man

Go to Google News and type E3. Check out the ratios of gaming journalism publications to mainstream publications. It's not even close.

A. We want gamers to keep playing Mario Kart and Smash Brothers, and to check out Animal Crossing + WiiSpeak and other 3rd party core games like Call of Duty.

A. We have many games out, like Proffesor Layton, it was the first game I ever beat! hahaha, and we also have a new Kirby coming out which should satisfy the hardcore as well as the more casual audience, hes so cute! Also a new Pokemon game, Pokemon ranger.

And then they made the conference available for view off of the PSN shop... an brilliant pre-game-launch advertising campaign to be sure.

Zelda wasnt really announced like you think it would be, you def know nintendo would be working on zelda anyway and all they said were we are working on it which doesnt tell us any thing knew and it may be like 2 years awaySAGE_OF_FIRE

The only reason they said it was to try and combat the response of the lack of games for actual gamers. It was more of "oh shoot, we need to say something quick...uhh how about we tell em we are working on a zelda title? YEA THAT IS IT! They will love that!"

Did you watch E3 this year. It was not just Nintendo, look at MS they spent 5 minutes taking about UNO. While also riping off the Miis. Sony same thing Nintendo was the only one that showed nothing for the core gamers. All three targeted the casuals more than anything else.
