Lets Rank Half life and Doom from best to worst

Hello friends,

Similar to my last AC/FC rank thread, In this thread we rank from best to worst 2 legendary franchises on earth. shall we

Half life:

1. Half life 2: Obvious answer, revolutionize FPS gaming not just FPS genre, Exellent pacing, ahead of its time
2. Black Mesa: Excellent fan made remake of original Half life that surpassed original HL especially when it comes to xen parts, although original HL does have better gunplay but this one is more overhaul of original.
3. Half life 1: It was my first FPS and blew me away. this was first time FPS has deep story telling, how you progress, the pacing instead of just being Doom clone. change the shape of gaming. although xen parts dragged so thats why its quite low.
4. Half life 2 Episode 2: although it was short but was fantastic expansion/epilogue after disappointment of episode 1. and ended on cliffhanger ending we are still awaiting.
5. Half life opposing force: Best expansion pack ever made.
6. Half life 2 Episode 1: It was glorified epilogue DLC that was 4 hour long and game design was far worse than brilliant HL2. it was worst in series easily

Have not played alyx nor want to play

Doom:

1. Doom Eternal: Natural evolution of not just Doom but also FPS genre, platforming with fast paced combat and grappling make it refreshing and most innovative title to comes out in years. easily best in series.
2. Doom 2016: It was first game that wowed me since STALKER SoC because most FPS games were dumbed down after COD4. this was saviour of FPS. return to roots with fast paced non stop combat. although it can dragged and repetetive.
3. Doom 1993: The game that invented FPS genre (yeah FPS were doom clones. not wolfenstien clones) as a result impact of this game never recreated. plus design wise its better than 2016 and Eternal as no one can create levels as clever as John Romero did.
4. Doom 2: Its Doom redefine sure but it was also masterpiece for its time, introduce hell on earth and newer enemies. replayed it as mini game in Doom Eternal recently.
5. Doom 3: There is no such thing as worst Doom game but we can say weakest Doom since its more slower paced and horror so doesnot feel like Doom, more like System shock but it was also Excellent game. best Doom in term of atmosphere easily.

so friends how do you rank each franchise from best to worst? lets discuss

Half Life got better as it went on.

So did Doom, till Doom Eternal.

Doom 1, Doom 2, Doom 2016, Doom 3, Doom Eternal is the correct order. Eternal is the only one that plain sucks.

Your threads however are quite unique. You somehow manage to get more boring and repetitive with every one. I imagine you have actually even bored the tits off yourself by now.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve played some of these games, especially Half-Life ones, but from what I recall I’ve pretty much enjoyed each successive game more then the previous one, more or less. Also keep in mind that I haven’t played Black Mesa, Alyx, or Doom Eternal yet.

Best - Halflife: Episode 2/Ultimate Doom

Worst Blueshift/Final-Doom

As a one of a kind experience, OG Halflife still wins for me as it was such a new experience at the time that basically blew other FPS out the water. But it wasn't perfect. Though, still my fav game of all time.

It's worth noting as well, not all of Final Doom is bad, in fact a lot of it is very good.

Heck, even Blueshift isn't bad, it was originally suppose to be free content, but as a paid product it's "been there done that", brings nothing new to the table, competent but unremarkable.

Everything after 6 is progressively a more wack video game. This is not counting mods. We throw in the wad scene and Doom 1 n 2 are so far above the other dooms its not even funny on Sunlust alone. On the flip side the best Half Life mods are shit that aren't Half Life: Team Fortress, Counterstrike, etc.

there is no way CS is better than HL champ.

although I like CS 1.6 back in days but it cant touch Half life. it was Half life MP mod.

CSGO is crap on other hand. full of hackers, non gamers and casuals.

PUBG and fortnite are far worst than COD today.

You are both right Counterstrike just seems too different these days. I've been over CS for a long time now but it was one of the best MP shooters ever created in its heyday.

On topic best Doom is original its legendary worst is Final Doom.

Best Half Life is HL2 and worst is Blue Shift.

I think it's also an age and general competitive thing.

Older players will play stuff like flight-sims, so those communities tend to be way better (like perfect) with like 30-50 year old dudes sipping their eggnog as opposed to some Eric Harris looking motherfucker with with his cap back saying how's he's going to rape your mam.

The fact that you positioned Half-Life 2 at the top and above Half-Life doesn't allow me to take you seriously. Also you saying you have no interest in playing Alyx makes me take you even less seriously.

You're like the Resident Evil 4 kid who discovered the franchise way late and think it's the greatest thing ever.

It's not that there's anything wrong with Half-Life 2 it's just a huge departure from the original and by and large feels like a completely different universe. It's a great game but positioning it above Half-Life is just weird, and even weirder than that placing Black Mesa above Half-Life is just heresy given the freedoms taken with it.

Even stranger yet you have no interest in playing Alyx which ties into Half-Life 2 heavily and is by and large an extension of it yet you place Half-Life 2 at the top of the stack.

Ugh, your threads give me a headache. You almost know who made them based on the dumb titles and ridiculous premises.

This is a terrific summary of how I feel as well. I like Half Life 2, but until Episode 2 I didn't really love it. It was just missing something.

And I did not like Black Mesa at all.

Halflife: Alyx actually does a pretty good job of tying them together without feeling contrived or overdone.

But yea, Halflife 2 feels nothing like Halflife.

It's like they wanted to make another IP but Halflife was the IP that would sell.

They basically done that with Portal, bundling this innocuous little puzzle game alongside it as a trojan horse.

Real Half life must include Gordon Freeman.

How doesn't it? Half Life was all about how it combined it's gameplay elements to create constantly fresh scenarios. Half Life 2 just took that and turned it up to 11.

It takes place 20+ years later in a futuristic setting with a world already established largely ignoring every enemy from the original, with less varied weapons and enemies going from what is essentially an x-files fueled Poseidon Adventure to a 1984/War-Of-The-Worlds fan-game.

The call backs to the original are largely invented characters of basic red-shirt templates and blablabla Mr.Freeman.

Alyx with it's commentary, Xen contamination, simple but beautiful mosaic, Return Of The Jedi construction and plot-points that relate to both future and past games etc... does a far better job of connecting them than

"Hey remember me Gordon bro?, that dude you used as meat shield and then shot in the back for ammo in Black Mesa! (5 times) How ya fuckin' doin buddy!?"

I mean it's been like, 20 years and you look the exact same, but that's ok.

It was also very easier than original Half life.

I remember original Half life was hard but HL2 even on hardest difficulty is cake walk. too much health and armor supply crates plus health and armor charger at every wall.

An area Alyx significantly improved upon. It's still kind of easy as they deliberately gimp the AI for VR noobers but the Resident Evil style 2-4 hit and you're dead health system is far better.

Valve should take NG+ from Resident Evil while they're at it.

Probably the best thing in Revelations re-release, for manly men only.

Maybe they will do that in the inevitable console release a few years from now.

beside Resident evil (Bar excellent RE7) is crap franchise. barely operate with KB/M, RE4 nearly ruined TPS before Gears killed it.

Yeah it takes place after the first game, its a sequel... It's still identical in game design

Pinky, just play Doom Eternal. your mind will be blown. its most badass and Manly game ever made. a masterpiece.

@pinkribbonscars: Nope. Gunplay is different, huge chucks of the game are large open vehicle sections and the final part of the game is running around with god-mode, pretty much. Which is still way better than Xen, of course, because it's deserved. Get to go around the wizards castle fucking shit up.

Say Alyx is closer to OG Halflife. Far more claustrophobic game with tighter pacing that leans on the creature elements with the combine secondary.
