This would've been exactly the same situation for GoW if they didn't reboot it and reboot being as good as it is.

These old franchises are stuck in the past, and unless they're smartly rebooted, they will never see the glory days they once had.

Yeah, they reboot it for the TLOU/UC market so of course it would have worked but that doesn't mean it's good. Ubisoft has practically also turned all their franchises to AC clones for the same reason that it sells.

The draw of Halo was always been a casual shooter that you could play together. The market now a days have even more casual and dumbed down shooters.

God of War to me was a 8 out of 10. Very poor fast travel. Poor navigation. Slow combat. The best armor after fighting the valkryrie's useless since there is nobody left to fight, no dlc , super linear ! Great graphics. Would I play the next one, of course ! Is it a 10 out of 10 no way.

We can remove the Lore because it's Norse mythology...they didn't create that universe. As for the story, it's laughably bad and a text book example of how not to do it. The only reason people liked it because of its supposed serious and mature tone along with surprise surprise...a kid.

They didn't explain at all how and why did Kratos changed from a mas murdering villain to a hero who cares about other people not him self or his family. They didn't explain at all where all his anger went. I would have understand it if it was a reboot but it wasn't. It was a direct sequel. What they did is akin to giving Doom Slayer a personality of Kiryu or hell even Mario. All that happen off screen and that's a big no no in story telling. If it were a movie or TV show it would have been ripped to shred for inconsistencies.

Nevertheless, story or writing isn't and shouldn't be how a game is judged. If I care about it I would see a movie or read a book. It's all about gameplay and sadly the gameplay is dumbed down for UC/TLOU audience with same walking simulator tropes. Again like TLOU/UC it's only propped up by production values alone.
