Some days ago, I played Kingdom Come: Deliverance on my new beefy Gaming Computer at Ultra Settings at 1080p and God damn, look at the Graphics!!! This the un-modded Vanilla game. I doubt that this really looks Photorealistic:-

Comment your thoughts and tell if you have seen any game which looks better than this!!!

No... and the second and sixth shots look shit...

This on the other hand....

Welcome to Unreal Engine 4......

Even the original Crysis with a good TOD can look just as good as your shots.

@scatteh316: Have you seen the maximum capacity of CryEngine? It is way better than Unreal Engine's full capacity:-

Welcome To CryEngine 3.

Looks like real life? right?

Those aren't CryEngine 3 ;)

And in your shots the lighting looks flat, the 3rd from last shot you posted looks very unnatural and objects looks disjointed from each other and the lighting.

The stools and wood on the bar look particularly awful.

UE4 is much better in that regard.

Tech demo shots showing off an engine don't prove anything.

I am talking about the engine screenshots for CE3 and UE4. They are irrelevant.

That's pretty impressive. Those are real-time non-cinematic in-game shots? I wonder how shit this game will run on my 970...

I know this is a graphics thread but how is the combat in this game? Is it revolutionary like hyped or ehh? I might want to get this game but the combat is my biggest question mark.

It's not quite photoreal, but it definitely looks really good. Right now photorealism can be achieved in small scenes and if using photogrammtery will be just about indistinguishable from reality, but in many cases this isn't dynamic and lighting is baked. We need real-time raytracing / pathtracing to achieve dynamic scenes indistinguishable from reality. This might take another 15+ years for VR and even longer for non-VR games.

Actually lighting in Cryengine is dynamic and realtime. One of the big pros of Cryengine.

Most modern engines are capable of dynamic lighting. It's a trade-off. You can choose to have dynamic lighting or bake it into the scene with much increased performance.

I haven't used Cryengine, maybe it's lighting model is more optimized, but you can't build a big open-world photoreal game with dynamic lighting everywhere.

Many games use a mixture of both dynamic and baked lighting.

It's a good looking game, but it's far from photorealistic. Also, why do all of your pictures in the OP vary in size and quality? Did you grab them off of google?

@jereb31: Betrayal at Antara. Hands down one of my biggest gaming disappointments. Looked forward to that game coming out for so long, and when it released it was utterly broken with bugs and ugly as sin. A really crummy experience

*edit* had a truly unique and interesting magic system, though

With a few tweaks, UE4 could do that. CE3 can do it too.

With a few settings tweak, Frostbite 3 could achieve photorealism too.

Many engines are capable of dynamic lighting because almost all modern engines are deferred rendering engines however Cryengine out of the box only provide features for realtime and dynamic lighting. Not only that it's the only engine to have a realtime GI solution called SVOTI and yes, their lighting is one of the best there is and much more optimized.

And there's already an open world game with dynamic lighting called Kingdom Come Deliverance and what's even more funny is it's almost an indie game. Another is Star Citizen so yeah, fully dynamic lighting is definitely possible in open world games.

I meant in photorealistic games. We've yet to see a game that can be considered photorealisic, has an open world, and uses dynamic lighting.

That's interesting to know about CryEngine, though I'm really surprised they don't allow you to bake lighting because there are some cases where you won't see much difference and it would be a big performance save even if their lighting model is optimized well.

Well, there are no photorealistic games nor going to be in the near future so the whole point is kinda moot. However KCD has good lighting and it's open world.

These are all tech demo shots from 3+ years ago. Honestly the full release doesn't look that all that special compared to other modern games.
