Codename D (Suda 51 is involved....trailer's kinda abrasive and confusing, but promising):

Rise of Nightmares (Sega, horror game):

So I'm just gonna say it's time to elevate the discourse, I think, from "lol Kinect has no real games" to "how the hell are these games going to find an ingenious use for Kinect controls?" Are these concepts sufficiently titillating to renew your interest in Kinect?

i didn't see any gameplay videos for those trailers, just teaser trailers and come on, theres only so much you can do with a camera that doesn't use buttons of any kind. either pew pew pew or your moving your hands around to controll something. Honestly if you weren't crazy about the playstation eyetoy i don't understand you would be crazy for kinect. since your essentially getting the same experience, heck the ps3 with the eye toy has a couple of games for the eyetoy.

It was not shown how you are going to play those games so for now there are no real games until someone somehow thinks of a way to make gameplay with Kinect good. The best one I've seen was with the Sonic game and it is relatively lame and it was already done with the 2003 Eyetoy, so yeah Kinect is useless as far as I can tell all you need is an Eyetoy.

Yeah, I know I'll get a Kinect as soon as Suda 51's game comes out. That man made the Wii fun, he can do anything :D

It's nice to see someone actually making logical arguments for Kinect. These games look way more promising than the shovelware lineup. That being said, I think the majority of those games will be meh

Half of them will be moved to regular 360 controls due to incompatible and clunky Kinect hardware and controls.

Hello, I thought considering this has been my critique for a while it's my obligation to bring to your attention the fact that Kinect has actual games slated. No, not Pony Dumparoo and Girl Party Slam Dance Edition, actual !@#$ing games. I previously did not know that they existed, probably due to the fact that Microsoft has been spending all their advertising budget making middle aged women scream over their videogame console.

These were all shown at TGS and the recent issue of Game Informer brought them to my attention. Evidently the Japanese demand actual video games instead of nonsense like Bash Party 6 or whatever that Breakout knockoff they showed off at E3 was. We all profit. Enjoy the following list (with accompanying teaser trailer):

Haunt (kiddy horror game....has most interesting concept in teaser thus far):

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-10-haunt/704594

Project Draco (basically Panzer Dragoon):

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-10-project-draco/704584

Codename D (Suda 51 is involved....trailer's kinda abrasive and confusing, but promising):

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-10-codename-d/704567

Rise of Nightmares (Sega, horror game):

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-10-rise-of/704570

Steel Battalion (replaces cockpit controller with Kinect somehow):

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-10-steel-battalion/704561

So I'm just gonna say it's time to elevate the discourse, I think, from "lol Kinect has no real games" to "how the hell are these games going to find an ingenious use for Kinect controls?" Are these concepts sufficiently titillating to renew your interest in Kinect?

I think offering an indoor physical activity when its cold and wet out is a better selling point.

They are casual because of what Kinect is capable of not because of the games. Kinect is nothing more than an overpriced Eyetoy.

 I know how the technology works. From the E3 smoke and mirrors show that MS mounted they have already scrapped Milo because clearly it was impossible to do what they claimed there and they also downgraded Kinect's hardware to make it cheaper. So basically all you heard there was a show and not reality. Yes, Kinect has the possibility to detect depth but how is it going to be used or be useful for? My point was that the actual games we have seen on Kinect were basically possible on the Eyetoy and some appear as basically a copy/paste job so even if Kinect has better hardware which is obvious since it is 2010 and the Eyetoy was from 2003 the way the games are using it is basically no different how games used the Eyetoy back then. So maybe all the fancy whistles MS released with Kinect are pretty useless for gaming and they should have stuck with the Eyetoy if they wanted to do what they are doing right now.

Bad example, because if you listen to his explanation of how Kinect works, he has absolutely no idea about it. Kinect has TWO cameras, not three. The third lens like object is a LIGHT (or projector, actually). Second, it's not using a stereoscopic approach to get depth. It's also not using time of flight, which is also claimed so much I even believed it for a while. It's using "light coding", which is a nice trade marked word with little explanation I could find. Afaik the patent is still pending, so getting any more details might be difficult for now, but it does sound like it's simply projecting a special image that allows to analyze the scene.

http://www.primesense.com/?p=514

Bottom line, making a point by linking to a video that is just utterly wrong isn't helping (shame, because I generally enjoy his videos). Can it technically do more than an EyeToy (detecting outlines of players)? Sure. Will it make a difference? Only if the games take advantage of it. Calling the hardware itself an EyeToy 3D is still pretty appropriate. And so far none of the games seem to go that much beyond EyeToy territory. But that's ok, since Kudo basically declared the minigame collections as appealing to "core gamers" because they "require skill", so according to him the launch titles already are "kinda core" (which in combination with always wearing shades leads me to asking: is this guy just constantly high?)

But the hardware isn't the big deal. The big deal is looking at what is essentially the depth buffer of a scene and figuring out where the people and their limbs are. And so far I've only tech demos where it started glitching whenever limbs were overlapping or getting too close to each other, because it simply can't tell the difference between crossing your arms or having them at a weird angle, ie. between having them like this: X or like this >

Has anyone else noticed Wii sales lately and how they basically have been going away slowly...there are only so far casual gaming can get you. I really just want all this motion controls stuff to go away already.

To be fair, a game doesn't have to be exclusive for it to be counted as a game for Kinect. I'm worried about that one though, I've read that its actually better without Kinect :s

Alright, now what are the games?

*pushes away trailers*

Nononono, I don't want ads. I want gameplay, dangit!

Also, how do we know Kinect won't be a horribly unresponsive Eyetoy with voice recognition?

The E3 show floor demos, from what I heard, weren't that responsive...
