Famitsu has released their sales report for the first half of 2014 in Japan (December 30, 2013 – June 29, 2014), with hardware sales up 6.4% compared to this point last year and software down 3.8%, resulting in an overall market growth of 0.1%.

Hardware:

Why do other systems even bother trying to sell there? It appears to be 3DS land.

handheldtendo is too dissapointing with their main consoles , they seem to be like the best handheld/mobile company as they target the whole audience and constantly innovate,i can see why they want Nintendo handheld only,only their pride is stopping from doing that i guess

With three more games, Nintendo would have absolute domination of the software chart. It would be interesting for the second half of the year once the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. is released. Will it outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl in Japan?

Interesting to see that not a single game has broke 1M copies sold in Japan in 6 months.

There's no chance of that happening. The PS4 will probably end up selling anywere from 750K-800K(maybe even less if it is unlucky) by the end of december. The XB1 will flop hard in Japan anyway.

Any console re-leased in Japan is going to flop, it's handheld and phone land now.

You think that they will sell only 30k PS4 a month for the rest of the year when the PS3 sold 300k in about the same much time? Thats about half as much as the PS3 for a new system. This isn't the Xbone you know..

On Amazon Japan pre-orders were #1 so how could it flop? Sure it's not going to be ahead of the Japanese Consoles but surly ahead of the Xbox 360. <_<

If the ps4 continues to sell 7000 or 8000 per week the console will most likely sell a bit under 200K for the rest of the year which is really bad. Christmas may bump the weekly numbers to 15K or 20K.My estimate may actually end up being true at the end of the year.I wouldn't be surprised if the ps4 weekly sales numbers collapsed completely and it struggles to break 700K by the end of the year.

It's laughable that the christmas bump will only be 15-20k That's unprecedently bad and not going to happen. A single week in December will be 40k. Quote me on it.

Ghastly first half for the Quad. Usually a cut in price guarantees a performance boost in sales, but I reckon even that won't suffice with the current market state of consoles over there.

What did the Vita sell in a single week in it's second december?Maybe that can be an indication to what the PS4 may sell in a week in it's first december. I figured it out. The PS4 may be like the Vita and get a bump to 20K-30K at the start of december and sell around there every week that month and maybe a bit more for the rest of december.I thought about it a bit more and I think 800K may be possible for the PS4 by the end of december.

Sony could sell 4 PS4's in 6 months, and if the WiiU only sold 2 in those same 6 months fanboys would say Sony was doing great.

We can't ignore the fact that Mobile gaming is as big or bigger than traditional console gaming now.

To be fair, I don't think Christmas in Japan have the shopping frenzy of Christmas at say, the US.
