It's time to jump on the hype train, Nintendo's biggest Switch Exclusive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is coming!!!

A long time coming for the Switch, how can you not even be hype for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? The series is almost 20 year old starting next year in January 2019, Super Smash Bros series turns 20 years old and what better way to send this Ultimate series with a bang!

• Developer/Publisher: Nintendo (duh XD)
• Nintendo Switch Exclusive (obviously)
• Release date: December 7th (better go pre-order while you still can)

I'm just gonna get down to the chase and keeping it short & simple. Nintendo has confirmed all total of 74 playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, that ain't easy to do but they did it anyways. (not gonna bother naming them all but you can see for yourself below)

Overall, we all watch Nintendo Direct for months and also E3, no point in me continuing this trend any further then it should be. The series has been popular for decades, I'm totally excited for ultimate and I'm going with a Freaking 9/10! It's all about the fun factor. It's Winter over here, so go grab a Switch, stay warm inside the house and enjoy Super smash Bros. Ultimate :)

Im taking work off Friday so I can play all weekend. Havent been this hyped for a game since... well... probably the last Smash

9/10. Only reason why it won't get a 10 is because it's a mash up of existing content. If it had enough to be considered a brand new game in its own right, it may have got a 10.

9 is probably reasonable. I can see it getting a 10 though if the new modes are really polished and change it up just enough to cater to specific people’s styles.

I rather play Mario Kart over Forza games cause for me, it's all about fun factor and both Mario Kart & Super Smash Bros. is no different.

I think the embargo won't be lifted until this Thursday for the review to go live, but unless Gamespot is waiting for online portion to go live this Friday, my best guess Gamespot will wait for online in order to give it a fair score.

Yeah baby!!! That's my birthday also! Using my last vacation day to play the shit out of this game after I probably put over 1000 hours into the Smash franchise.

Still remember the days of Smash 64 and kickin' level 9 ass with my brother as Link. Also remember the few times I would kick his ass and he would start crying so mom made me play teams with him or else no smash haha.

I see it getting 10’s across the industry. It’s such a high profile game, is solid for what it tries to do, and has a huge fanbase. I’m personally not hyped at all, I have the Wii U one for party and local MP but it’s not something I’ll sit and play normally. But everyone else seems to love the hell out of it, so good work Nintendo.

Literally the ONLY thing I want now from Nintendo is a new F-Zero. GX is amazing. I still play that to this day (Dolphin makes it better) and if they could make a new one as fast and fluid as GX with updated graphics and good framerate, I would want nothing more. Fast RMX is great and all but a new F-Zero would be day one buy and loads of hours instantly.

Haven't been hyped at all personally up until today. The Wii U and 3DS versions are still burned into my mind as I have played around 300 hours between both of them.
But the closer we are to launch, the more hyped I am getting. Can't wait to master the Inklings.

im going to say a 10/10 its smash, the worlds favorite couch multiplayer brawler. The amount of characters and maps is insane, the only reason i see it getting less than a 10 is the online, which is more the switches/nintendos problem than smash itself

If the World of Light story mode and Spirits customisation features are detailed and loaded with content (in addition to this being the most complete and polished game in the series), then I think you'd have to treat this one as an entirely new game that stands on its own merits.

You're both idiots. It has more new content than Smash 4 had other than characters and stages, but every single returning character and stage was redone. The engine is new too. You people just want it to be a port.

Personally not that hyped to be honest, never played a smash game before and not sure what to expect! If it gets a10/10 I’ll pick it up, otherwise I’ll probably wait for a demo or a sale!

To clarify, Nintendo stated this is a new game, a new Super Smash Bros. game for the Switch and not a port.

It has new mechanics, a new art style, tweaks for every single character along with some overhauls, and the complete roster plus all the stages are on top of that. It’s not anywhere near a port, and I do not understand how someone could look at the gameplays and say “this is the same game with more characters.” Sakurai isn't lazy to just make a port.

The reason why I don't consider it a brand new game or all-new game (not to be confused with new game) is that the bulk of the game is from previous games. I don't care if there's new artwork and tweaks to the characters. They're from older games. When the game's main selling point is "every character and stage from all past Smash Bros. games", it's pretty hard for me to view it as a brand new game. I've also never called it a port. It's a new game, sure, but not brand new. It's a mash-up, amalgam, compilation, whatever else you want to call it, but not brand new.

Yes, new content wrapped around old content. There's a few new characters, a few new stages, new mechanics and all that, but by the very definition of brand new/all-new, this is not a brand new/all-new game. New game, sure, but ONCE AGAIN, not brand new/all-new.

It doesn't have every stage. And your reasoning is stupid. Basically, you're saying that them not cutting characters makes it not a new game, but if they cut a bunch of characters it would be a new game. Melee had all of the original's characters and modes, so I guess that wasn't new either...

It's hard to say. The game may have reached a point where it is unsustainable to keep redoing them from scratch while continuing to increase the amount of content.

But more content isn't always better and I really prefer seeing the fighters remade from scratch with new assets, and seeing how the characters are reimagined. It's a shame most characters look almost identical to before. I don't mind if they reuse the engine and stage assets, but I would rather have seen characters like Samus get new models than the return of fighters like Young Link. I don't think Ultimate needed to be built from the ground up on Switch, but I do think it should have diverged more from SSB4 than it actually has been shown to.

I get what you're saying JustPlainLucas, Sakurai says it's built off of Smash 4, and would of actually been a huge overhaul if he didn't choose to bring all the characters back. I think Sakurai made the right choice however, I do think that the next Smash Bros. game will take that approach though.

Still, if this has an entirely new 15-20 hour campaign mode, full of new cutscenes and unlockables, does that change the equation at all? That's as much new content as many brand new games.

My personal hype for it is a solid 8. New Smash on Switch should be f***in awesome. I've got to say though If you go at it with a critical mind then the complaint about game series being the same applies to this game as well. Its more or less the same game you have been playing for a while now. Could see not go above 9 from a critical reviewer. If you love this type of game, you love nintendo and Sakurai is the best then boom 10/10. The production quality is there just like those other game series that got 10.

This will be the first Smash game I get in on right out of the gate. As long as reviews come in decent I’ll get it the first week and I’m totally stoked! The Wii U version was famtastic.

I already said the first time we saw the new Smash that it was using an entirely new engine, new models, new animations. KBFloyds video shows this perfectly well. But no, all the haters kept dismissing it as a mere port.
